Blogging Funk

Posted on 24. Jul, 2006 by loswhit in Weblogs

Photo 28It seems that many of us are in a writing funk. I am finding that there has been this eerie silence in the blog circles I run in. Is it summertime? Is it just plain writer block? What do you guys do to get out of your writers funks? Or what puts you in them? Let me know.

P.S. I am blogging from The Pines Resort in Bass Lake, CA. John Candy is everywhere. Tip one for the brother.

*Get in a really bad mood. I don’t know why, but I write more when I’m in a funk.

*Grow a garden. It takes up all your social time…then you have to blog.

*On the upside: Do something new…write about how to do it, even if you think people don’t care.

*Write when you feel like worshipping. Some good stuff comes out other people need to see.

I write for my job and am trying to do a blog. Can wear me down – often does, particularly when I’m on my sixth project of the day writing dry copy for a client’s website.

I’ve found that a good tactic is bookmark a few blogs where the writing is good and provocative, yet contains ideas and perspectives with which I totally disagree. Typically those sites make me think about what I would in response.

It’s certainly not finding some sort of internal inspiration, but it’s one method of shaking things up.

Yeah, I’m finding that as well. Probably just the summertime activities taking up a lot of people’s time. Another thing is that I find is that I second-guess myself when I come across something interesting. Is it blog-worthy? Or just a waste of everybody’s time? That can be a fuzzy line sometimes.

I’m going through the same thing. Maybe its the heat? I dunno. I’ve kind of been in this mode that i feel like I’ve been too preachy and too long on my blog, so I’ve just not had a desire to do “big” posts.

I’m with Rick too, what little time I seem to have free for something such as blogging, I’m filling with family/summertime activity. Plus, my “church” schedule has been more crazy in the last month than previous. We’ll all get back in the groove. I’m sure of it.

Go over to 2BB. Pat has a previous post on 10 ideas for blogging ideas or something like that.
Hey, Hey, I live 10 min. from the lake!!!! I might take the kids over there tomorrow.
You must go to Jazz on the Lake Friday night. Nice place to sit right on the water and it’s next to the pool.
    Have Fun!

just wanted to say that your blog kicks mass!!!!!!!

if I were to take blogging more seriously, I would probably post more. I still play pingpong in my head about why I should even have a blog…not giving up yet. Also, it’s almost like there is some quota for weekly words written…I’ve just wrapped up an article that I’ll be submitting, so that kinda drains me. At the end of the day, I just want to water my tomatoes, hang with my bride, and be quiet.

Maybe it’s not the best thing to force oneself out of the funk. OK, laziness can keep some of us…like myself…from writing. That’s not good. But silence is all right too. it’s probably better to wait until you have something to say, rather than forcing something really lame. My last entry was pretty stupid…but I was just trying to post something.

For a blog that is well read, like Ragamuffin Soul, the writer could solicit commentary, questions, ideas, etc. from the readers, which is sort of what Los had done here. Maybe some of those responses can help find a thread to follow.

I’m kinda with Slade. Lately I’ve been learning that instead of feeling like I have to post something, maybe I should just let there be some downtime til I really have something worth sharing.

Also, has anyone else noticed less visits to your site lately? Not only does writing seem to be down, but I’ve noticed less traffic in the past several weeks as well. Maybe it’s just me, or maybe it’s summer and people are on vacations and not at their computers as much.

Anyway, if it is the same with others, just wondering if the slower traffic maybe encourages people to write less.

I am kinda bored with blogging. It happens every month or so (hmm….maybe hormonal??) Sometimes I just want to shut it all down. My stats have also been down – normally 375-435/day but now hitting 270-300. I am commenting less, so maybe less linking back. I wonder if blogging is a fad that will eventually disappear. ???

I blog only pictures. But yet there hasn’t been too much to shoot. I’m kinda debating wether or not to shoot next week. I’m looking and searching. But keeping it interesting may be a challenge when keeping it church related. Maybe I should break out and blog about myself? What do you think. It would be a new subject.

Oh Yeah and the heat is problematic.

I wonder with Anne. But that topic is a post in and of itself. I think blogging as a “journal” may soon be done. But who am I?
    For me, blogging has…
    1. Developed a needed community in my life of people “away” from church as well as those in church. We all need that.
    2. Blogging has made me into a consistant human being. In general. Seriously. Before I started this blog I was all over the place. It actually gives me some sense of rythem in my day.

    It’s a wonder.
