JRocka, Los, and Silva

Jrocka and I went down to Sids Tattoo Parlor to hang with Rob for a few hours today. He is truly an old school, gifted artist. He has first dibs on my empty right arm.

Los, I’m definitely not trying to stir up anything, but wonder what your thoughts are on this verse:
“Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD” (Leviticus 19:28)
There is only one reference in the Bible about tattoos, and that is it. That verse is specifically talking about tattoos which are part of a religious ritual.
If someone wants to object and say this passage rejects all cutting of the flesh and any mark of the flesh, then we want to ask, “Does God prohibit any cutting of the body for medical reasons such as operations?” The answer is no since God wanted the Jewish boys to have an operation. We call it circumcision of males. So does God allow us to cut our bodies? The answer is “yes,” but only for a good reason. We need to remember that we are the temple of God. It is not to be abused.
Do you not know that you are a temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? (NASB) 1Corinthians 3:16
So in that, I say that before you do anything, you should make sure and ask why. A tattoo is no different.
Good question. That is the best way I have heard it put.

I’ve been curious as to this ever since I saw that rad forearm tattoo you have. Now I know and “Knowing is half the battle: G.I. JOE!”
I’ve mulled over in my mind a tattoo before. But if I were ever to make the leap, I’d probably get a “fake” one for a bit at first…to see how I liked it. Plus, I bet it’d freak some people out at first too.
Oh, and I gave you a little “ping pong love” here: http://blakethompson.net/2007/04/26/carlos-at-ragamuffinsoulcom-my-dream/
los – completely unrelated to the post…but pics got me wondering…which WordPress plugin you using for images?
Dang, you were right around the corner from my church brutha. Next time you’re there give me a call and we’ll grab some lunch or something… Maybe matching tats.
My maiden name is Silva. Sweet.
Rob did my first tattoo! I don’t think he knows that. I just randomly called there to make an appointment and he’s the person I got. Although he did a good job I will never have a person I don’t know do another tattoo on me. After my good friend Kenny tattooed my back I realized how much more comforting it is to know the person scraping a needle across your skin.
