Rabbi?

Posted on 12. Jun, 2007 by loswhit in Authenticity

It’s been quiet around here today. Sorry.

Baby boys have this thing called circumcision done for various reasons. Losiah is not. He is not LEGALLY ours yet. Still in joint custody between the adoption agency and us. So therefore we have not been able to make Jr. “look like” daddy.
We took him in to Kaiser today to have our consultation for the surgery.
$1,200.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So I think I am just going to take that money and put it aside for whatever counseling he needs because he “doesn’t look like daddy” when he gets older. Or call a certified Rabbi and make him Jewish.

It’s cheaper.

For what it’s worth, maybe the baby will be better off with his foreskin. I mean, what other part of the body do we look at and say, “That would be perfect if we just cut it back a little.” People aren’t trees. We don’t need to be trimmed. This bit of wisdom has gotten me through many a cold, long time: If it dangles, it shall dangle. Good luck.

ROFLOL!! This is a GREAT post! GREAT! :) So great that I won’t lecture you on any of the medical benefits of circumcision.

Oh dont worry. We have heard it all. Both sides of the camp. It definately is a personal family decision and we don’t know where we stand yet.
Don’t worry peeps. I’ve seen the videos. Don;t send them

geesh. i thought that insurance covered that because it can cause hygenic issues when guys are older. did you check? seriouly, it should be covered. my mom, the nurse, says so. :)

Both my boys’ units were covered….wait….let me restart….

Both of my boys’ circumcisions were taken care of by insurance, but we did it within the first month of their little lives.

Since our son was also adopted and from a country where circumcision isn’t routinely done, we didn’t have him circumcised either. His pediatrician said it wasn’t medically necessary.

I know there are pros and cons to each side. I just couldn’t see having the poor little guy go through that.

Jewish for day isn’t so bad, especially if it’s Messianic Judaism.

    Nah… I won’t. LOL.

Ouch!!! It’s not at all prevalent in the UK – exept in those communities where religion demands it.

Mikko was not cut, my boys are are not. I heard of many men growing up playing football with locker room culture…He’ll be fine.

im all for the cut, it just looks way better :)

I literally just watched this terrible show called “Bull*$&#” with none other than the extreme athiests Penn & Teller (yes, I’m ashamed)…but anyway it was about this very topic, and that show made the decision for me! If I ever have a little boy, he’ll just have to be different from daddy. I can’t see putting my baby through the terrible pain for a little cosmetics.

You’re right, of course, about it being a personal family decision. I have 5 children, 3 of them boys. I remember the contemplating. Our first was cut without much thought. Then the second was the big grapple. In the end, I didn’t want their penises to be a visual chronicle, if you will, of our philosophical changes through the years! So, everybody looks the same. Trust me, there’s so much else to worry about! You’re doing a great job!

I just have to add this: My fiance has a 15yr old son that was never circumcised. 15yr old boys do not have good hygiene. So at 15 they, (my fiance and his ex) are now talking about having it done. They both wish they would have had it done when he was small.

It’s a personal decision but I would say get it done now while he is small.

I don’t really have an opinion and it is a personal decision. But I have some friends who had their son circumsized, but had to get it RE-DONE (at 2 years old) because their doctor didn’t do it correctly! Poor little guy!

Ey, nothing wrong with looking like a Gentile. Just teach the lil’ guy good hygene skills.

Look like Daddy? Dude, I’m an adoptive father of a child of another ethnic background myself, so take this in the spirit in which it is intended…he’s never going to look like you. However, in the interest of sparing little Losiah the trauma, if you so decide, maybe you could go in and have some skin re-attached instead.

  21. rob reed 13 June 2007 at 11:52 am #

I don’t think this is a huge deal, although we did snip our little guy (a month and a half or so after we adopted him). It was a BAD experience the first day when he pee’d for the first time (worst, shrieking cry I have ever heard from him in his young five and a half months).

So, you get spared that… and all that you end up dealing with is having to teach your son the wonders of smegma.

    Looks better?

  23. Jaime Cram 13 June 2007 at 9:24 pm #

Not sure why it should cost THAT much…it’s better to do it the day after birth I think if you have that option (you know, baby won’t remember…) Tyler was snipped the morning after he was born-had no problems with the healing. I have heard little babies cry in the doctors office next to mine, I always think it’s shots…nope, you guessed it. But it is a personal choice. If you guys want to pursue it more, I would investigate more into your insurance. Insurance companies will rip you off just like a burgular. THEY hope you won’t look into your benefits.

Yea. More and more I’m thinking that brother is going to wear a cap to the party the rest of his life. I think he’s just too old now. But it’s not like it would have hurt him any less when he was a day old. But who knows. Thanks for the input Jamie.

    Jaime:

It is expensive because after the first few weeks, docs want to PUT the babies out, so it means anesthesiologists, etc etc etc. Surprisingly, my tyke did not yelp during or after the procedure… the numbing cream did the trick.

A few hours later, he was a BIT irritiable… but that first pee after… yee-ikes. Ear splitting wail that immediately caused my wife and new mom to bawl her eyes out. It was frightening. :(
