Fat Ragamuffin Returns

Posted on 12. Jul, 2007 by loswhit in Fat Ragamuffin

So I obviously have not posted a fat ragamuffin video in a while. Por que? Well because I am stuck. 185 and sitting. 40 lbs. gone. Thinking I am a failure. I can’t seem to drop any more weight. Not that I am trying super hard. But tonight I ran across this picture from last summer.

Picture 1-7

Man. Who is that guy and why did he eat Carlos?
Los
P.S. I might just be the ugliest sleeper on earth.

I have been kind of stuck too – until I got a stomach virus and that launched another 10lb “peace out” fatty…

Buy yourself a bikini. I can tell you based on my experience yesterday that it’s a very good appetite suppressant!

Two weeks ago I was 6’0″ and almost 220lb, and I admit that I kinda liked it. Except that I felt like crap and I knew in the back of my mind that I should drop to about 195. So I cut back from eating about 3700 calories/day to 2000 (and then to 1800), and started working out. As of two nights ago I was 210, which if you account for a 3% margin of error between the different scales and times of day (I made that margin up, but it sounds god), means I have lost between 4.84 and 20.84 pounds in the past 10 days. My bet is more like 4.0, but the whole point is calories in versus calories out while still making sure you get the proper nutrients. Blah blah blah, like anyone really cares. I am steadyrock’s OCD in overdrive.

I’m right there with you – except I lost too much weight for my height – so I’m trying to gain weight – its not working…

Dig the shorts… what kind of boat were you on???

When I was in college I got up at 6:00am and went to the gym for an hour, ate a breakfast of fruit, water and a muffin, swam for an hour, surfed for 3 hours, ate a lunch that consisted of a teriyaki chicken rice bowl and water and then pulled carts at Costco for about 8 hours and ate whatever I wanted for dinner every Monday thru Thursday. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, I still worked, but ate and did whatever I wanted.

I lost 3 percent of my body fat in 1 month. I was in the best shape of my life. About a month ago, I weighed in at close to 200lbs (I’m 5’11″)… I started surfing again (once a week). I’m now down to about 180.

    exercise, exercise, exercise!!!

Statistics the world has never seen before (cept my doctor):
End of Freshman year of college (2004): 155
End of senior year of college (2007): 125

When I come across old pictures, I cringe. I’m only 5’2″ for goodness sakes! That was a lot of extra weight on my lil frame!
    5 more to go…then I’m stopping. I promise. :-)

Go get ‘em boy….you’re doing great.

just gotta keep pushing. that “cookies and cream” milkshake from chick-fil-a probably doesn’t help. I prefer wendy’s frostys…

Hey… 40 lbs is no small feat by any means. I’m currently down 49 from 240 on Dec 1st. I’m 5’11″ and in HS I was 195. Now being skinnier than I was in HS when I’m 25… I’m starting to feel good about my body. I have another 10 or so to go… but I’m definitely psyched to have it “under control” finally.

As for your plateau… know that plateaus are NORMAL. Your body is coping with consuming less calories than it burns and it is likely fighting “starvation mode” where it tries to burn more proteins and less fat calories to give the energy it is using. Plateaus can last weeks, months, even longer… So don’t give up. Stick to it and your body will eventually adjust properly. You might also try varying your calorie intake daily… eat at the higher end of your range one day, then at the low end the next… bounce it a few days like that and it can sometimes break up your body’s plateau.

For example, if I am burning 2,300 a day and eating 1,400 – 1,800 a day…. I would eat 1,390 one day, and 1,900 the next, then maybe 1,450 the next and then 2,000 the following… just get your body kick-started again and see if you can’t get those fat calories burning once more. ;-)

Best of luck to you. If you want any more info on what I’ve done, then feel free to shoot me an email (I think you can see my address) and I’ll gladly send you some info and some helpful (and free) websites that I’ve used in my journey.

Good stewardship isn’t just for money. Wise choices in our eating habits and maintaining our bodies is just as important. It’s a lesson I wished I’d learned earlier as well.
