Marvelous Light – Charlie Hall
Verse 1
I once was fatherless, a stranger with no hope;
Your kindness wakened me, Awakened me, from my sleep
Your love it beckons deeply, a call to come and die.
By grace now I will come And take this life, take your life.

Pre-chorus
Sin has lost it’s power, death has lost it’s sting.
From the grave you’ve risen VICTORIOUSLY!

Chorus
Into marvelous light I’m running, Out of darkness, out of shame.
By the cross you are the truth, You are the life, you are the way

Verse 3
My dead heart now is beating, My deepest stains now clean.
Your breath fills up my lungs. Now I’m free. now I’m free!

Bridge
Lift my hands and spin around, See the light that i have found.
Oh the marvelous light Marvelous light

When I sing this song I am drawn to the pre-chorus. That pre-chorus has been one of the most powerful lyrics in my quest to rid myself of all anxiety and fear in my life.

What impact has this song had on YOU personally?

This is one of my favorite Charlie Hall songs. It is impossible for me to sing it without being filled with such Joy. The 2nd verse really brings it home for me. I think Micah 6:8 is my other top choice for Charlie Hall songs.

I love the beginning. His kindness wakened me. I had no part. He did it. He is doing it. No boasting but in the cross!

“Out of darkness, out of shame” I played bass for this one on Tues. Very fun song.

I love the whole song. I first heard it at summer camp 2 years ago. I love v3. my dead heart now is beating, my deepest stains now clean…Your breath fills up my lungs, now I’m Free!!!

Oh and since I learned it at camp, it takes a lot to keep from doing ALL of the motions. At least we can spin around at sandals…

For the Victoriously line you go down and jump up with your arms open like a V…. Oh yeah, and for the chorus, you get a good workout…jogging in place for Into Marvelous light I’m running… =) praying for sunday =)

I love the entire song. However, the line that always gets me is “I once was fatherless, a stranger with no hope.” Since I grew up with out a father in the home it reminds me that I do have a father, a heavenly father.

It’s been awhile since I’ve heard this song… Brings up good happy memories, and wanting to have it sung at a weekend service soon.

    :)

    Balance is beautiful!
    The song is incredible!
    You are a blessing!

Believe it or not, I don’t really know the song so well. But lyrically, the first verse gets me the most. A father to the fatherless. Yeah. Enough said.

I love this song… it is by far one of my favorites at Sandals. It’s definitely a pick-me-upper, and I love the lyrics. The pre-chorus would also have to be my favorite, filling me with peace and joy. Who are we kidding though… Sandals has the best worship out there anyways!! :)

I really love the entire song. Watching a group of passionate juinor high students sing (scream) that pre-chorus completely changed my view of Christ’s resurrection – VICTORIOUSLY. It says everything.

    los,
we’re doing it Sunday .. it’s an awesome tune, for sure.

I think one of my favorite lyrics right now, though, (even though this song has many of them) is the line from “Sweetly Broken” by Jeremy Riddle:

“what a priceless gift .. UNDESERVED LIFE” …

    Thank God.

Sin has lost it’s power, death has lost it’s sting.
From the grave you’ve risen VICTORIOUSLY!

I cry when I sing this everytime.

“Into marvelous light I’m running , out of darkness, out of shame.” It reminds me of how I try to hide my sins and when I come into the light I can release all of that shame of hiding.. Every time I sing this song I feel a sense of relief, of my burdens lifting from me. I can envision God with His arms open and me running into them.

I love this song, but right now my favorite, most “moving” worship song is “Lead Me To The Cross” from Hillsong United. It is incredible.

yeah ….. its all about the pre-chorus for me as well.

Someone posted the Reason loop at sacredloops.org a while back. I can’t get our team to use it, but it gives the song mucho mojo.

Whoa. This song (and the pre-chorus especially) has huge meaning for me, too. But I can’t tell you why here.

    A. I have heard rumors that this song has been moved into the “motion song” category and now, Lorijo has confirmed it. This makes me sad.

    B. Right now, I’m digging “Clinging to the Cross” by Tim Hughes and “I Am Yours” from the new Aaron Keyes album.

Both amazing songs; I’m sure we’ll eventually do them at church, but right now, I’m just enjoying the heck out of them myself!

I just introduced this song to our church 3 weeks ago and they loved it so much, we did it again the next week for fun. It is officially my “favorite” right at this point in my life.

  20. tony 23 July 2007 at 1:53 pm #

    It’s the pre-chorus.

You led this song at Sandals one week when we still lived out there; it was right after I was diagnosed w/ cancer (which, praise GOD, seems to be all gone now).

The power of that lyric in the pre-chorus hit me like a ton of, uh, something heavy, I guess.

Sin has lost its power… death has lost its sting… regardless of what cancer does to my body, my soul is untouchable… heavy, heavy stuff for me.

You had us just sing the pre-chorus 5 or 6 times – I could feel the weight lifting off my back, man, as that realization settled in. The sin I was carrying (lack of trust in HIM) has been PAID FOR…

    Great, great tune.

this song was mighty in the service that week that followed the resignation announcement of our senior pastor. i am not going to rehash that here, but indeed… sin has LOST its power. amen.

I can’t help but let out a whoop between “from the grave You’ve risen” and “victoriously!” every time I lead/sing this song. My church loves it and I love that they feel free enough in their worship to hoot and holler in this one. Hallelujah.

  23. Rhi 24 July 2007 at 6:32 pm #

means a lot to me. God healed me during one service when i had all those lung/breathing problems. almost left so cal to go to cleaner air. you played marvelous light and then DCB “he set me on fire, i am burning alive, with HIS breath in my lungs, i am coming undone”… healed that night. haven’t had problems since. remember that night, i was slain and you kept worship going!! i don’t know if it was for me or not, but i sure appreciated it!!! GOD is such a healer. life and death is in the tongue. when we worship, we speak those words. when we believe them i believe things happen!!

I first heard this great song from Charlie himself at my church, RockHarbor in Costa Mesa, Calif. I know this is a post from a week ago, but i just today found your blog. so yeah, fan the flame!

    I love this song.

I heard it a little after the beginning of this year, and every time I sing it or hear it I am filled with joy and chills. But good chills. I feel like jumping and dancing.

The pre chorus is my favorite part as well. Seems like theres so much power packed into those two lines.

    Have a good day.

I just listened the song for the first time. I was struck by this part:

    Into marvelous light I’m running,
Out of darkness, out of shame.
By the cross you are the truth,
You are the life, you are the way

Thnx for the picture with the lights.:) I used it as wallpaper for my computerscreen, with the chorus on it.

    Run, run, run!

I absolutely LOVE this song. Every Wednesday at my church youth group we sing 3 songs before we begin our lesson and everything. We sing this song alot because we all love it so much. && Between “From the grave you’ve risen” && “VICTORIOUSLY!” we all like “whoop” lol. And when it says “lift my hands and spin around” we all do it. It is so fun and I think the Pre-Chorus has had the most affect on me. I love this song.
