Stretching Scrim Simply Seems Slightly Sucky
![]()
If I see another church stretch this stuff in this shape I am going to start picketing in front of their buildings.
This is just horrible. I think it just screams “LAZY!!!”
So stretch your scrim to your hearts delight people. But please. Stop the star looking stuff.
Because it just looks bad. Really. Like Jr High promish stuff.
That is all.
And the scrim in the above picture was my bad idea.
Sorry team.
But since it was more than 6 months ago it does not count toward our suck meter anymore.

I don’t know what the heck you are even talking about because I never even went to the prom. Probably because I was wearing overalls a lot back then. But anywho, what I wanted to tell you was this: now that your fat, or phat (as the case may be) tattoo is completed, you may want to go ahead and send me that picture now. Okay then. Thanks. Thanks a lot. I promise not to share it. My mom doesn’t even like tattoos. She didn’t talk to me for two weeks when she saw mine. I am not kidding.
That would’ve been super-nice at my prom. It was in the metal VFW building. Our decorations were usually streamers and flowers made out of toilet paper. No, seriously. An ugly metal building on a little grassy lot out in the middle of nowhere – complete with a concrete floor.
Lots of folks would even drive 30 miles to go to a REAL pizza place, like Pizza Hut. That was a big treat.
That is what it was like to grow up in McRae, GA
Assuming we’re still on St. Simons Island – I’m sure it will be a bit different for my kids!
For the Kingdom,

I am wearing a scrim body suit as i type. What you gonna do about it? loved the pics of the house dude!
NO FAIR! I clicked on the pic expecting to see a worship leader using a keytaur! Or at least someone with a worship flag, and got NOTHING!
YOU SUCK!
i cant see the full picture….
you can make it look cool….http://lynseleanne.wordpress.com/2007/07/03/4th-of-julyto-a-canadian/
Sorry. Gotta disagree. Haven’t done it et, but want to sometime. I think it can actually look kinda cool sometimes, especially if it’s lit well. It’s a whole lot better the bland nothingness that lots of churches do.
NO BOBBY!!!. Don’t Do It!!!
You Might as well sing Shine Jesus Shine while you light it up in yellow!!! It SCREAMS “Church trying to be artsy!!!” and not succeeding!!!
Bobby? Bobby?! Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo don’t do it!
Actually we’ve done it a few times, and in different shapes. Compared to the brick wall directly behind us I think it actually looks great and can be done well. Being done well and in style with logos and graphics is key.
Here’s an example of one we recently did for a series using rock tunes from various decades: http://mikejonesblog.com/2007/07/set-pics-for-rto2.html
I too never experienced that look in JR high or prom.
BTW, congrats on the opportunity at Buckhead.
Mike. Because I like you I will give you the benefit of the doubt. And the brick behind that stuff is pretty nasty. But I just think it is overplayed. Maybe if it was not stretched in that starry pattern and just left wrapped in a square screen it might not rub me the wrong way. I am more a fan of going to Home Depot and buying those 8×4 rectangles of styrofoam and putting them together to make a hige screen. Then you have what Granger has for 100000000th the cost.
Thanks for the comment.
