I realize I’ll probably go straight to hell for saying this. But here goes. I’ve heard Louie speak live twice and was absolutely underwhelmed. The first was on a Passion Tour featuring Chris Tomlin, Charlie Hall and David Crowder. Chris began the night and it was some really great worship and a lot of fun. Louie came out and spoke for close to an hour. It was really, really, really long and not very interesting. He talked a lot about stars. Charlie Hall came on next and did about 20 minutes. It was good but kind of somber. Then Louie came back out. At which point everyone I brought stoop up and said they were leaving. Admittedly, I was a bit Louied-out, as well. So I missed David Crowder, who I was really looking forward to hearing, because our guys just couldn’t sit throw more star stuff.

Then two years ago, against my better judgement, I caught another Passion Tour event at Saddleback. This one was with Chris and Matt. Chris came out and lead for about 45 minutes. Again, it was great. Then Louie came out and spoke for over an hour. About guess what…stars. What’s worse is that he basically gave the same talk twice. Once without photos and once with. Then Matt came out and lead 2 songs. 2. That’s it. Then Louie came back out and spoke for another 30 minutes. It was just too much. It wasn’t that what he said wasn’t great or wasn’t inspiring. It was just really long for what most people thought would be a music/worship driven event.

So when the Passion Tour came around this year, I skipped it. I just couldn’t take that much teaching on a night that’s billed as a music event.

I ran into Chris and Louie at Fashion Island the day of the event and spent a few minutes chatting with them. I’ll say first and foremost that Louie was incredibly genuine and incredibly nice and I really enjoyed talking with him. I also appreciated that Chris Tomlin told me who he was a couple of times during the conversation. I think he wanted me to ask him for his autograph or something.

Let me throw in that I’ve listened to some of Louie’s messages online (non Passion Tour stuff) and surprisingly (to myself) enjoyed it. I thought he had some great insight and shared it in a way that was really accessible and genuine.

So….maybe I’ll just catch his teaching online from hear on out or hang with him down at the mall and leave the Passion Tour to folks with more time than I’ve got.

People need hope. Jesus Christ is hope. I hope people are reached with the hope of Jesus Christ. you are right. it should be good.
in our churches we could teach about this constantly – it’s what we are called to do. check out Luke 4:42-44.
    hope.
