I LOVE that promo. Great concept and execution. And not to brag, but I could totally give Earl a run for his money in the close-up magic department…there was a time where I used to carry a deck of cards, 3 international coins, and a spool of thread for making things float, all in my pocket. I’m not kidding.
That hand wipe he does is really slick by the way. I really dig this video.
That was sweet! We meet in a movie theatre that runs the “Twenty” before each movie, and we were thinking about doing something just like this. Thanks for the post!
Not AT ALL trying to offend… but I honestly ask the question (because I don’t know the answer)… When does slick become sick? Even though fancy video productions these days are cheaper to make than people would think, I worry that the glitz factor still sends a message or gives a perception that we might not want to give.
Seeing this video right after your post about food expense around the world got me thinking I guess.
Los, How do you think we decide how much glitz is too much in the church today?
Allen. Great question. I think it depends on YOUR church. When you start not giving to the poor because you are focusing too much on making a slick video, then it becomes “sick”. But that video cost as much as most churches spend on their envelopes or bring a friend mug. You can’t fault a church or having a talent pool.
Just my thoughts.

Allen, I want to add that we are still learning. Sometimes to move forward it involves risk and taking a risk involves money. We are very blessed that our leadership has allowed us to take some risks and try different things to engage people as they sit in church, sometimes for the first time. Not only have we been able to change the way we do “announcements” but we hopefully have been able to break down a few walls as the TenBefore plays and Kelly says hello. This is just one way it could be done.
I appreciate your question.
are the parts with Kelly re-used week to week? Just curious. I love this as a solution to announcements…except for that most people come to our church 10 minutes late! Maybe if we had something like this people would come earlier???
Love it! Can I ask one question though?
What exactly is the “Ten” in TenB4 referring to? Is it 10 minutes? 10 “announcements”?
Not sure, because as I’m viewing it I notice the countdown begins at 5 mintues?
That was sick. Your team is ridiculous.

What a great way to use “down” time for announcements… And you guys pull it off well!

I must ask the same question as Russ – 10 what?
Yea. The 10 is 10 minutes. But it never ends up exactly 10 minutes.
So it just became the “brand”

could you send me a link to that? i want to show my department this “10b4″ idea.
Just for the record, my comment (comment #2) that said:
“That was sick. Your team is ridiculous.”
Was actually meant as “That was INCREDIBLE. I LOVE it. Absolutely amazing.”
Hopefully I didn’t inadvertently contribute to the whole “slick/sick” discussion. That certainly wasn’t my intent.
ha
LOS!!!
How can I hear the messages from the illusions series?
zak
people in church BEFORE the service… ha, only in the south.
Carlos,
Awesome, just sent Rich Kirkpatrick an email about this at Sunridge.
It might get people in the Worship Center before the music starts, Alex knows what I’m talking about, it’s a Temecula thing i guess.
