So I am taking my team through this devotional.
SOLO – The Message//Remix Solo
Clean. Simple. Lecto Divina.
I think it is going to be rad.
I am not the biggest fan of “devotionals” but I think Eugene and team have put out one that actually works.

What are you using/reading/listening to lately to help you connect with our Maker?

The Bible Experience CD is awesome. Especially love how Song of Songs sounds like a dirty romance novel.

I’ve been using Pastor Wayne’s Life Journal, great stuff. Makes me get into the word and pray for wisdom because going along with the yearly reading plan i can’t skip over the “hard parts”………I also try to post my entries daily, it helps me remember plus, who knows, it could help someone else out there…….

I, like you, am not usually down with ‘devotionals’ . . . they’re way too forced and inorganic.

However, i got a copy of ’solo’ a few months back and love it. Clean and simple. No crap. Just substance.

I use this for my daily devotionals:

We also have a J-group (J for journaling) that meets once a week and we journal together. It only takes a few minutes to do the read and write part but the discussion takes about an hour (with 6 or so people) and is always a great way to not only hear from God but to connect and stay connected with others.

I’ve recently found “Streams in the Desert” to be an uncommonly raw and hard-hitting devotional. I share you lack of affinity for devotionals (generally), but am definitely digging this one.

Reflections for Ragamuffins: Daily Devotions from the writings of Brennen Manning

Not your typical devotional…and I swear I had it before I knew of this blog.

    Piper’s sermons on Ruth…circa 1984…good stuff.

Not so clean or simple, my group is going through John Piper’s Pleasures of God. It’s pretty deep and intellectual, but I think it’s pretty intesting. It’s a series of “meditations on God’s Delight in Being God.” Tasty.

It isn’t a devotional but kind of reads like one. Finding God in Sunsets and Sushi by Crowder. He really focused on some Psalms and I’ve enjoyed it so far.

I too am not usually one for devotionals, but I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Jesus Calling by Sarah Young. It’s short, simple and always points me to Him.

The MacArthur Daily Bible and The Pleasures of God by Piper. I concur with Warren, tasty indeed.

I’m listening to Sara Groves “Tell Me What You Know.” I keep trying to listen to other CDs on my Ipod, but I end up just listening to one or two songs and returning to this album. It’s wonderful. I’m also listening to a compilation CD called “Songs From the Voice, Vol. 1.” Some of my favorite artists singing Psalms. Oh, and I’m reading “The Voice of Matthew,” which is the book of Matthew with notes by Lauren Winner (I love her!).

Wow, I didn’t mean to write so much. These things just get me really excited ;)

I am using Beth Moore’s devotional “Get out of that pit” a 40 day devotional journal… On day 30 almost done and it really has helped me but I will buy yours next, thanks for the reccomendation.

Re-reading through The Great Divorce by CS Lewis. Still stuck on my Africa thoughts, too, so I’ve been reading through my own journal a lot and seeing how God has been speaking to me through this journey.

Really like the Solo devotional. Thanks for the recommendation, Los…we are carrying it in the store now and at 7/22.

Frankly, the list is so long I’m not sure I could post it all…

Mostly consists of: Skillet, Kutless, Demonhunter, Red, Flyleaf and After Edmund.

On the lighter side, digging on Aaron Harp, Building 429, Chris de Burgh and Delirious.

Our small group is going through the second part of Acts (18-) and so far has been great. It is so amazing to see how the church began!

Breaking Free with Beth Moore (it’s kinda fun when you get to see her teach it live at your church each week). And the homework is totally kicking my tail!
I’m also reading The New Eve. It’s good.
And the Bible. That’s always a good one :)

I just going through Praying the Names of God by Anne Spangler. Pretty cool… this will take me 6 months. After that I am going to do Praying the Names of Jesus by her next.

Solo. You’re making me read it.

Actually, I’ve enjoyed it. The facedown thing was a little awkward, especially because I chose to read it on a busy street corner.

I’ve always got to give it up for “My Utmost for His Highest,” Oswald Chambers. Timeless brilliance. Who was this man?

may have to check that out.

use enewhope.org/bible for a couple of years now…and just finished reading The Shack…was afraid of it until I saw Eugene Peterson’s stamp of approval on it….loved it’s illustration of the trinity…

journaling based on a daily scripture reading schedule.

Question: so how exactly do you take your team through a devotional? (this is a real question… not being sarcastic)

  28. bran3 25 January 2008 at 10:47 am #

‘Canvas’ series, published by Serendipity House. The first book is called “Distortions”. It is very cool and creative, video driven. Developed by a church in Nashville called Cross Point.

Saddleback Drivetime devotions podcast on my way to work every day. Used to be a little Ragamuffin Soulcast thrown in there every now and then, but…………

Im reading this devotional right now as well. I have never done a devotional and I always felt bad about it, but this one is on the money and I tell everyone I know to get on this. Since doing this I've understood how a little 10 minute reading in the morning will stir your heart for God for the rest of the day, real talk.
