I shall taste this morning to see if they got it tasting any better.
Has this happened around any of you?
I might add that the silhouette of my head is quite round.

I wish they’d taken that three hours downtime to adjust the pricing to better suit broke folks’ wallets; like mine.

Even though I did have a venti mocha this morning…

Yes, here in Bakersfield too. In was on the Today show this morning – Starbucks is going back to basics. No more breakfast sandwiches putting more focus on the coffee. They are also switching out a lot of their auto espresso machines because they are creating a weaker espresso shot.

Yeah, it was sort of eerie that it happened the same day as an iPhone firmware update! I thought your St. Arbucks app might be one step closer to completion…

I have a friend that works in Starbucks, and he said the company is trying to “get back to their roots” and just make good coffee. So they are re-training everyone and they want to be the “best coffee place” again.

So this could only be good for consumers right?

It’s nationwide. I heard about it on the radio yesterday morning and it was funny that they were totally freaking out over it. There was a poll on cnn.com or something asking what people’s reaction’s were to it closing for 3 hours and most of them were not aware what Starbucks was…a very scientific poll I might add…how can you not know what Starbucks is, do you live under a rock?! Starbucks is the epidemy of all that is brewed.

Check out the news story at http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23351151/

Aw MAN!! I was wondering what happened! I went to 2 Starbucks different yesterday and both were closed so I couldn’t get my green tea latte! I was so sad. :-(

So you must not watch the news, or receive news through RSS, or read newspapers, or…

  13. Chris 27 February 2008 at 9:17 am #

See, that’s where being a nerd and listening to NPR comes in handy. I heard about this a month ago…

yep, every starbucks, but our signs weren’t ghetto and written in marker. haha.

  15. Laura 27 February 2008 at 9:41 am #

I didn’t have time to go by Sbux this morning and check out the new and improved coffee. I’ll be there tomorrow, though, for sure!

  16. Los 27 February 2008 at 10:16 am #

Dave. Actually no. I work all day, drive home listening to podcasts, eat with my fam, play with the kids, and crash. Same routine everyday.

Those Starbucks marketers are some sneaky sly people.

haha, this is hilarious. yes, you werent the only one with this problem. supposedly it because they are taking time to train people. why cant they do it on their own time. if you ever in northern western us of a, you should look up a little place called dutch brothers. they stayed open cuz they train on their own time. starbucks after all is the evil empire right?

Yep, I read about this, and I’m sipping a *$ latte straight up as we speak. Ummm…not much different from the last one I had a few weeks ago.

  20. connor 27 February 2008 at 11:00 am #

never seen it before… wow, your dome really is round, lol

  21. BryanG 27 February 2008 at 11:01 am #

Haha, I’m with Bryan2. I work at Dutch Bros. and all of our drinks were $2 for those 3 hours. Pretty rockin’ way to stick it to the man.

At least Starbucks is very Wesleyan… striving for perfection and all!

  23. jess 27 February 2008 at 11:19 am #

heard about it on the news…… right after a knock out drag down car chase! ha

  24. Loran 27 February 2008 at 11:25 am #

Nationwide….I think it’s a PR move! Look at the conversations happening around this? They could have simply implemented a training program or processed the training during off hours? Instead…they close for 3 hours and promote it nationwide. Brilliant! Howard Shultz is back at the wheel! I’ll bet their sales didnt suffer if everyone did like me…rushed in before 5PM to get a cup!?!

Same sign on my local Starbucks.

Great thing happened a few weeks ago. My friend and I stayed until closing one Sunday night and were pleasantly surprised with free drinks. They apparently do “quality control” from time to time to make sure everyone’s drink-making skills are up to par. She got a free Strawberry-Lemon something or other, but the guys was also giving away Chai and other good stuff. Not sure how often or when it actually happens, but it was worth staying there late!

    Guy, not guys.

    150,000 barristas being ‘refreshed’

  28. Scott 27 February 2008 at 1:09 pm #

I’m a “barista” at the bux. It was three hours of “retraining” aka…watching videos and re-learning how to steam milk and calibrate an esspresso machine. Pretty pointless.

This thing doesn’t happen often though. Been working there for 4 years and this is the first time.

  29. Rachel 27 February 2008 at 1:59 pm #

I read that Dunkin’ Donuts put on some special yesterday to lure Starbucks loyalists out…I thought it was pretty funny. And clever. My friend works for one of the 2 billion Starbucks in Tulsa. She was pretty bummed that she got stuck at work last night. =) Whatever, I’m more of a local coffee gal anyhow.

  30. Terrace Crawford 27 February 2008 at 7:27 pm #

Haven’t tried the ‘newness’ to see if its ‘goodness’ yet. Anyone else? I did hear that they may be getting rid of sandwiches bc the smell was overpowering the coffee.

  31. jordan Lucas 27 February 2008 at 9:18 pm #

Dude….I work for Starbucks, people were getting a little violent while we were in the store training. Yea, thats right training…..we had meetings and trained on the hot bar for 3 and 1/2 hours. You might think it was insane, but Howard knows what he is doing. He is shaking it up! Things will be rockin’ even harder at SBUX from now on!

  32. Anna Meadows 28 February 2008 at 5:40 am #

The cool thing about Star Bucks is that they can do this… and not lose a single customer… actually, something like this will only increase their customer base… it gets people talking…

You guys are lucky you even have a Starbucks. I live in BFE otherwise known as Enterprise, AL (in my best southern twang) and the best coffee here is McD’s :-( Unless, of course, I want to drive 45 minutes for a SB then I can get one from a Target.

Side note: Your video’s about dieting are hilarious. You’re brave to document it via video.

Just my observation, but my skinny vanilla latte yesterday and my regular vanilla latte today were better than I remember (both at different locations)
