I Watched Myself Sleep And So Can You // Time Lapse

Posted on 27. May, 2008 by loswhit in About Me, Mid Afternoon Distraction

I’ll be the first to admit that the following video was weird for even me to watch. I was mostly nervous that I would watch myself sleepwalk out of the room at 3 am and come back with a pink tutu on or something. Thank God that did not happen. Seriously. For all of us.
This is just one of the things that randomly runs through my head.
“I wonder what I look like sleeping?”
Well. Now I know. 8 hours in 4 minutes.
Here is a breakdown of my experiment.
12-1 AM // 1 Turn
1-2 AM // 3 turns AND bandanna fell of my dome.
2-3 AM // 4 Turns. Bandanna ends up back on my dome. I end the hour looking like I’m lounging by the pool. Looks like snoring begins on the hour.
3-4 AM // 1 Turn and foot tapping begins. This was a nice solid hour of sleep for me.
4-5 AM // 5 Turns and bandanna is off again. I start loosing the covers. Lucky for you I slept with a uniform on.
5-5:30 AM // @ 5:12 am I found my happy place. Covers off and in a fetal position. @ 5:17 AM you are really glad that I slept with a uniform on. This looks like the worst half an hour of sleep I had.
5:30-6 AM // My shoulders are getting jiggy with it. Looks like some solid sleep and breathing.
6-7 AM // 7 TURNS!!! – I have a feeling this is when my crazy dream happened. And the sun decided to wake up this hour as well.
7-8 AM // 1 Turn BUT the cover goes OVER my head.
8-9 AM // “Daddy. Daddy. Why did you sleep down here? Daddy can I play computer games? Daddy how do you spell NickJr.com?” And I close and open my eyes while enjoying an hour of the scent of Sohaila’s hair. The best way to wake up if you ask me.

So. If you could watch yourself sleep. Would you? Will you? Could you? And why don’t you?
That was the weirdest thing I have ever seen

Yes, somewhat wierd, but it would have been even better with the pink tutu. :)

Kudos for being able to sleep through the mariachi music…. that stuff drives me nuts!

I’ve been thinking about doing this with my son. He’s almost a year old and we often wonder what goes on in his room before we go get him out to the crib.

I plan to use Gawker because you can set a time to start recording. I’ll just set it to start recording around sunrise.

I come back and post a link once I get the video up on his blog.

Fo’ Sho’ I would!!! Who would not want to see themselves in a state you normally don’t. I do weird crap in my sleep so I would love to see it.

Wow, I feel so much closer to you now that I’ve watched you sleep. I think our relationship just went to a whole new level.

I don’t think I’d want to watch me sleep, idk. Every time I wake up I’m always in weird positions and way different from where I was when I was falling asleep.

I’ll keep the sleeping video’s in your court.

Be honest. Did you get kicked out of bed or something? Did you have a spat over the pink tutu?

  8. Rita 27 May 2008 at 6:17 am #

    I feel like a stalker.

The coolest thing was watching the sunlight gradually come in through the window.

  10. adam 27 May 2008 at 6:18 am #

  11. shan 27 May 2008 at 6:33 am #

I did this one not too long ago. I apologized to my wife afterwards.

The only thing weired than you watching yourself sleep, is ME watching you sleep. I should definitely get back to work now.

I have a totally different camera angle saved if you want it. It was hard to get the blinds out of the shot, but it turned out okay.

    don’t ask me why… but that was disturbing… ha…

  19. connormcc 27 May 2008 at 9:22 am #

ha ha, i was totally gonna do this the other day

  20. Paloma 27 May 2008 at 9:56 am #

that was weird. I totally wouldn’t be able to sleep the same way if I knew it was being filmed (I’d feel creeped out), and I also wouldn’t be able to sleep with the light on all night.
Also, it was interesting to see the ceiling light’s brightness change. Interesting in a lame kind of “wow…shiny things” way. Cause I’m easily amused like that.

What’s weird is that I watched the entire 4 min video of you sleeping. I’m going to take a nap now. For real.

Oh – and THANK YOU for wearing pants. Yeah. That was a good idea.

ahahaha.. how do you do that?!
    ps.
    it’s like watching sims sleep.
i was gonna ask though how did you fall asleep with the blinds open and your light on.
i guess it’s all for the lighting eh?

My daughter loved the video, at the end she said – “Look its me and my bald headed daddy!” Now she wants to watch it again and again :)

  24. Abs 27 May 2008 at 11:19 am #

I can’t believe that I just spent 4:15 watching that! There is no way in heck I would time lapse myself sleeping – it would be way too incriminating. :)

  25. Rachel 27 May 2008 at 11:26 am #

The music drove me crazy. You should have used Album Leaf like Josh. =)

I think it was a little creepy, but interesting too! But I have to wonder…how does Heather ever keep her half of the bed?

  26. Jen 27 May 2008 at 12:24 pm #

That was funny! I can’t believe I watched it all. I mainly LOVED the music..I can’t believe it annoyed some on here. I’d like to tape my husband sleeping…he doesn’t believe how LOUD he snores.

  27. Katie 27 May 2008 at 12:46 pm #

Does anyone know how to do a time lapse video with a PC? I would love to do one of my classroom…I’m sure it would look like I’m running laps round my classroom!

  28. Tyler Sloan 27 May 2008 at 2:38 pm #

So I did this last week! It was a little weird and I was too embarrassed to even tell very many people that I recorded myself sleeping. I didn’t know anyone else would ever find it interesting to watch. I haven’t paid for iStop. And I haven’t done a lot of editing of the videos I’ve made with the demo so it didn’t make it online but…I’ll have on up on my blog in about a month. Not of me sleeping but hopefully it’ll be as fun to watch as the ones you do.

  29. Elissa 27 May 2008 at 3:27 pm #

Ok so the funniest part of this video to me is that the soundtrack to your sleep is the same as the soundtrack to mine… when my neighbors are having a party!!!

  30. J Parker 27 May 2008 at 5:46 pm #

    Hey man

What are you using to record for 8 hours straight? Video feed to your Macbook Pro?

    Thanks

    J Parker

Isn’t it odd that I just watched a man I don’t even know sleep?? You are hilarious and this is a very telling video about the time in which we live. Way too much time on our hands especially for me to watch you for 4minutes and 15 seconds. Isn’t there some rocking chair I can rock in soI can raise money for missions??
    The music is great!!

  32. Sue 27 May 2008 at 6:54 pm #

you reminded me of like when you watch your dog sleep, and they do all those little leg twitches…why did I just watch that whole thing? because i don’t want to clean the office, but now I have no excuse…

  33. Joni 27 May 2008 at 7:41 pm #

Well there’s four minutes of my life I’ll never get back. LOVED the music.

  34. krystel 29 May 2008 at 10:55 am #

that’s the funniest thing ever…i’m crackin up!!!!
    you are too crazy man!
i never know what ur gonna come up with.

Am I the only one that was thinking how the chain on the ceiling fan clicking against the light globe would have kept me from sleeping? It was making that click-click-click sound while you talked in the intro! You’re a riot, Los.

  36. Rhi 17 August 2008 at 5:32 pm #

well i’m not patient enough to watch the whole video. however, i know i’ve told you this before and i’m sure i’ll say it again. you are a CRACK UP! who does this? you do. too much. would i watch myself sleep if i could? maybe. will i…no. no cool video camera nor any cool editing skills. well done tho sir.
