Lord, there is no human word or comfort for a tragedy like this. Your Spirit is needed like never before in the life of this family. Your Healing, Comfort, Grace, Rest, Love. Oh Father, I pray that You would be present to meet each need in each heart that is broken apart by this terrible accident. For the hurt, confusion, anger, guilt, pain, horror, for every emotion being experienced by this family, Lord, be at the center of it. Infuse each individual in this family with your life-giving peace that passes all human understanding. I pray for the young man dealing with the unthinkable burden of being a part of this accident. Grant him grace in a measure that is exactly what he desperately needs. Guard him from any judgment or malicious thoughts of others. Bind his heart up tight. I pray for Steven and Mary Beth. Give them superhuman insight and wisdom to be able to hold with both hands onto the knowledge of Your goodness even in the face of the worst possible tragedy anyone could imagine. And give them wisdom to be what their son needs from them even as they grieve for their sweet daughter. I praise you for the power of prayer and for a world-wide community of believers who will stand in the gap for this family who has blessed so many others in so many ways. Return those blessings a thousand-fold to them now.

Heavenly Father, our hearts ache for this loss and we pray that You, the God of all comfort, will bathe this family in that right now. Thank You that we who know You can find some peace knowing that Maria has entered into the joy and fullness of her eternity.

Lord, we pray that those close to the Chapman’s would pour out themselves in these days to serve this hurting family and be a daily reminder of your presence in their lives.

Father, as I tucked in my 5-year-old daughter tonight, I was struck by the horror they must be going through. Please comfort them. Help me love my daughter well while she is here…for however long I may have her.

Yes, Lord, Your grace is enough for that! So I pray showers of mercy, grace and comfort will cover Steven and his family in this time of sorrow and pain. Restore what is broken and renew their hope and peace.
