In her defense, having actually gotten to come on down myself, it’s super disorienting up there with all the lights and cameras and pressure. Plus you’ve been in line for something like nine hours at that point (after waking up at 3am), so most contestants are completely out of it physically.
But then again, I went through all that and managed to not look like an idiot.
