My Current Man Crushes

Mancrush

These are man crushes I have of dudes I actually know.
Weird I know. But I’m secure enough in my metroness to call it what it is.
These guys are movement makers and world shakers.
The kind that you need to keep an eye on because any minute, they are going to create movements that we are all a part of.

Jay King //
There is this guy who is going to start a movement with me. Or I with him. Either way, our lives have collided in a way that is going to shake the waters of what it means to be a “worship leader”. This guy is the real deal.

Dustin Bryson //
We started a web gathering place that died a quick death but was fun while it lasted. He just started a new project called PCityLive.com Another brilliant project by my boy Dustin. Sooner or later one of these things is going to change our lives. I’m sure of it. Is this one it? Go find out.

Zack Arias //
I know. I know. Your tired of me pimping his photography. OK. Then I’ll just pimp him. He is a great guy who loves the Lord in a way that I wish most Christians would love him. With honesty. Oh. And his girl makes him 10000000 percent cooler.

Mike Foster //
Still can’t get enough of this guy. He is full of wisdom and honesty and Radical Grace. I’m privileged to call him a friend. Oh. And I wish I had his hair.

Oh. And Jack Bauer and Sawyer are still there. I so want to be those dudes.

So there you have it.
Who are your current “real life” man crushes?
Do chics have lady crushes?

Yes, we have lady crushes, although I’m not currently crushing any. Looking forward to reading about the men you find crush-worthy.

I have a man crush on Paul Meany (lead singer of Mute Math). Dude can roll in the Holy Ghost (I have a CD of some of the band leading worship at Victory Church in Metarie, LA a few years back and it’s sick) but also he is the lead singer of an up-and-coming band with a genre-bending sound that isn’t afraid.

Oh, and his style is incredible.

I will always have a man crush on Tony Morgan. Visit Buckhead, go to lunch at Maggianos.

    I wanna be him.

I had a girl crush in high school. I wanted to be just like her, and followed her around and tried to dress like her. I’m sure she found me annoying, but we became closer friends in college.

To this day, I still follow her methodology of how to match clothes.

Too bad she decided to stop speaking to me for a really lame reason.

    Not that I’m bitter.

    Man crushes on:

    Alex Alexander: http://alexalexander.wordpress.com/

    Steven Furtick.

    Perry Noble.

    And, of course, YOU LOS.

    :)

Let’s see how many people say you…ha!

  7. Caleb Porter 2 June 2008 at 8:06 pm #

    Laird Hamilton. Dude’s a beast!

  8. jason 2 June 2008 at 8:14 pm #

    Abraham Lincoln…what?

  9. Jay Sellers 2 June 2008 at 8:18 pm #

Second the Paul Meany, add McKendree Augustas.

  10. joe wiggleston 2 June 2008 at 8:30 pm #

Kristian Stanfill. There I said it. Something about that deep voice makes me swoon like a little girl. And to make matters worse, my wife Miranda is desperately in love with Chrystina Fincher–total lady crush. She hugged her once at Southside and she hasn’t showered since. (Okay she’s showered a couple times, but only out of necessity). We’re weird.

  11. Matt Brown 2 June 2008 at 8:48 pm #

You have a man-crush on my nephew-in-law Dustin? I’m pleased to see that his fans extend beyond family members…. :)

  12. Jad 2 June 2008 at 8:48 pm #

Total mancrush on Jim Bloodgood…drummer for Sara Evans and on a regular rotation at Crosspoint. If I’m playing percussion on a Sunday when he’s on kit I stare mezmarized by his chops.

One Sunday I was on kit and he complimented my playing after the service. That day will always live in infamy.

My girl crush has always been Sarah Jessica Parker.

Though I am not if that counts as ‘real life.’ It should, however. Because my non-real life girl crush is Lara Croft.

  14. sarah 2 June 2008 at 8:53 pm #

ladies just call em “friends”, yo

one of my lady “crushes” would probably be my awesome friend/old college roomie, kelly: http://meditationsofherheart.blogspot.com/
and meredith andrews (the singer): http://www.meredithandrews.com/
(shes not my friend, but the friend of one of my friends, and i pretty much just want to be her)
and other blogless friends of mine whom i love dearly…cherie, madi, liz, ashley…

we ladies also have man crushes,
but thats not really what this post is about, is it..

  15. Reese 2 June 2008 at 8:59 pm #

Okay, so I used to read spitboxmedia, I read several of the pages in his sidebar list, I live in Panama City (only thinks it’s a large city, it’s really, really not), yet I’ve never heard of Dustin Bryson, nor did I know anyone in PC was doing anything that cool. (And the guy in the vid at the bottom of PClive looks incredibly familiar.)

  16. Truitt 2 June 2008 at 9:00 pm #

    I remember spitbox.

  17. Jeremy 2 June 2008 at 9:28 pm #

My friends make fun of me for it, but Matt Chandler (pastor of the Village Church in TX) is my man-crush. Guy can preach.

  18. Dustin 3 June 2008 at 4:11 am #

If I say I “back atcha” does that mean we’re dating?

  19. Zack 3 June 2008 at 4:25 am #

I can’t say much for most of the men I actually know, but in general:
Mark Driscoll, John Piper, Francis Chan, and the guy who was smart enough to register mancrush.com and make a buck off it ;0)

  20. Ben M. 3 June 2008 at 4:34 am #

I’m just not comfortable with this topic on so many levels. I will pray for your soul, Los! (HA) But…..if I was going to admit that I had a man crush you would definitely be in the running for top honors.

  21. Heidi Reed 3 June 2008 at 4:34 am #

So I’m reading and following along and taking this all serious-like. Then you typed “Jack Bauer” and my attention went like this…
    [think car accident]
    screeeech, kkrrr, crash, bang

He said Jack Bauer. I can’t think for some reason. Someone get me a gun and a terrorist and some CTU and I, uh, I, uh, I cannot think.

    He’s dreamy!
    LOL!

  22. Nathan 3 June 2008 at 4:46 am #

Yea, I don’t have a “crush” on anyone famous in Christianese but I do have some great friends that totally inspire me everyday. Karen; karensporch.blogspot.com, Summer; herstorygirl.com, Lorri (she doesn’t have a blog-too cool for that).

Oh and I love Sawyer too.

  27. John Ireland 3 June 2008 at 5:42 am #

    ministry-wise…John Ortberg

cool factor-wise…Ewan McGregor as young Obi-wan (what guy does not want to be a Jedi?)

  28. Robert 3 June 2008 at 6:14 am #

    No doubt about it…Bono!

  29. Brad Ruggles 3 June 2008 at 6:57 am #

I agree with you about Sawyer. I wish I could look that cool and come up with catchy nick-names on the fly like that.

My other “man crush” would have to be Matthew McConaughey. Every time I watch one of his chick-flicks with my wife I feel like a little less of a man.

    Brad Ruggles // http://www.bradruggles.com

  30. Brandon 3 June 2008 at 7:41 am #

Hands down my biggest man crush (and there really isn’t even a close second) is Andy Stanley. I’m extremely jealous of the fact that you work with him Los. I’d give anything just to shake his hand.

  31. Adrienne 3 June 2008 at 7:51 am #

Real-life Girl-crush: my friend Katie. she’s so little and cute (I’m 5′ 10″) and organized and reliable. she gives very sane advice. we talk on the phone every morning while we drive to work. total crush!

    Blog girl-crushes:
Alicia Paulson, so artistic and isn’t life really full of beauty and Welsh Corgis? (”Posie Gets Cozy”); Dooce, who lost her job over her blog but now single-handedly supports her family through the blog ad income (”Dooce”); Isabel Lugo, statistics and probability PhD candidate (”God Plays Dice”)

  32. Rachel 3 June 2008 at 8:18 am #

My good friend Brandon has a man crush on Justin Timberlake. I find it hilarious, but I really don’t blame him.

No lady crushes at the moment here. Sorry to disappoint.

  33. Rachel 3 June 2008 at 8:19 am #

p.s. That banner is incredible. Did you create it yourself?

  34. Amy Storms 3 June 2008 at 8:34 am #

Nichole Nordeman, because she’s beautiful and a great writer. Victoria Beckham because she’s SKINNY.

Not sure if I have crushes, or just envy. :)

  35. Anne Marie 3 June 2008 at 9:06 am #

Ack! I have several lady crushes. And they are good women… (in no particular order)

    Candace Maloman http://www.ishotthechef.com
her husband is a wedding photographer, she was a chef at Four Seasons and now cooks for fun. She is hilarious, supportive and makes seriously appetizing treats!

    Your wife http://www.whittakerwoman.typepad.com
i know, i know. sad. But I follow her blog more than anyone else’s. Hers is a great story, and I love to see how it unfolds.

    Jennifer Garner
Elektra should’ve ended my lady crush, but I just looked the other way and kept on crushing. I loved Alias, and now just can’t seem to get over her.

Haha. Now you know… probably more than you wanted.

  36. bryan a 3 June 2008 at 9:29 am #

Jim Palmer (the author, not the pitcher) – Not only am i loving his book, Wide Open Spaces, but Jim has also joined the roster of writers I have at Prayers For Blowouts, my blog that focuses on the frequent collisions of sports and faith. check it out if you’re into either spirituality or sports.

Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse – what they’ve created with LOST is nothing short of a masterpiece. can’t wait for the final 2 season.

Oh Sawyer….He’s definately on my top 5 manlove list. The top, obviously being a tie between John Mayer and Brad Pitt.

As for lady crushes…Carrie Underwood. Hands down…she’s the most beautiful woman in America. If I could look/sing like anyone, it’d be her. Ha.

In my dream my husband Rob was shopping for dress shirts in a strange mall…what could this mean?

  45. Carrie 4 June 2008 at 7:08 pm #

BRAVO..I am pleasantly surprised that men actually admitted to man crushes – like that is just refreshing! Women are far more open about who they admire or even stare at or wanna be more like…but men. yup refreshing!

Do you know the Jack Bauer drinking game? Every time you hear Jack say, “that’s not the right call”; “you have to trust me I don’t have time to explain”; “we don’t have time for that now”; “and keep it quiet, CTU has been compromised, we can’t trust anyone” or just “CTU has been compromised” on its own works too; then you take a drink. Now its not as interesting drinking an iced green tea or caffeine free coke but maybe espresso shots could liven up the party!!!!!

I’m sorry. What was this post about again?

  47. Meghan 4 June 2008 at 7:43 pm #

I have a man crush on Zack Arias, too! ;-)

I have lady crushes on the following:

    Heather Whittaker
    Rachel Bos
    Cindy Stephens
    Andrea Arias

    and

Winona Ryder. Dang it all I wanted to BE her when “Reality Bites” came out.
