OK. I’m Addicted.

Posted on 13. Jun, 2008 by loswhit in Mid Afternoon Distraction

A few weeks ago I placed a time lapse movie of my day at work.
Then of me sleeping.
Gawker is the program I use to make all these.
A cool option it has is to time lapse your desktop.
Here was my Thursday.
Well. Here was me laptop’s Thursday.
From 9-5

Desktop Timelapse from Carlos Whittaker on Vimeo.

Any simularities to your desktops throughout your days?
Mail and Twitter seem to be my staples.
What are yours?

Google calendar. Except I run mine through a program called Thunderbird, which is the Mozilla equivalent to Outlook. GMail + GCalendar + Thunderbird = Schedule bliss.

Love the time lapse, but slightly worries me as I’ll be forced to own up to how frequently I check my YouTube, Etsy, Flickr and RSS feed (and therefor the blogs I read)

I think time lapse throughout my day would include a lot of shots of “crazy mommy” facial expressions where my children pretend they don’t hear me so I yell because obviously that’s more productive than giving them an actual consequence to their behavior. I refuse to have any mom video. I can’t be trusted. My organizational tool is a note pad and pen. Can’t function without it.

    Whoa. That’s pretty cool.
I think I’m going to have to whip up a gawker timelapse on my MacBookPro just to come clean about how I spend a day online.

Firfox, Outlook in Parallels (I’m corporate, I know), and OmniGraffle are big parts of my desktop lately.

And I’m lovin’ tweeting old skool style myself…

Yup. I did not talk or have meetings or walk. I sat glued to my laptop all day. :)

    Los,

This post was sweet. Firts of all you broke out the old school Montel Jordan, went through a bunch of stuff, you had watched my Boss’ Sermon, BTW- The list of all of the OnePrayer churches from Craig’s sermon in fast speed was still memorable.

    I want your job! LOL

what a great accountability to the way you browse the web… haha…

Dude, you’re crazy. I’ve gotta try that with mine.

My time lapse would be of Outlook, my blog, and this blog. I’m always checking emails and responding to people.

Calendar sometimes but not so much.

That is awesome – I’d be terrified to do this, it’d show how much time I spend doing stuff other than work.

I use gaker too. Love it. Close to addiction.

But, could someone tell me how you time-lapse your desktop using it???

  15. Lauren A 13 June 2008 at 12:07 pm #

I think I saw my blog on there! HA! Maybe, who really know.
That’s very similar to what my Mac sees.

Final Cut – AfterFX – RENDER – Photoshop – Final Cut – AfterFX – RENDER – EXPORT (Once finished… Repeat Process)
Half of my life is a GIANT Render Bar. But that’s why they make Nintendo Wii.

Speaking of addicted…what happened with that guy’s backpack?? You can’t keep us in such suspense!

  18. zak 13 June 2008 at 2:48 pm #

Mine would be planning center online, final cut express, fireworks, dreamweaver, twitter, blog, blog, blog, blog, google calendar, gmail, writeroom if I am preaching that week, twhirl, firefox, flickr, and of course, ragamuffinsoul.com

    Suck Up, I know…

    :)

I love Gawker, and I’m glad you are now using Vimeo! I think it’s a much better tool than Youtube, although it doesn’t have the reach, that’s for sure.

  20. Lu 13 June 2008 at 4:14 pm #

    That was INsane!

And No, I would never do that; no, mine doesn’t look that crazy, and no, mine doesn’t look that cool– there’d be more Photoshop, Flash, PowerPoint and Excel — and it would be a PC (blech!) as that’s what I’m stuck working on at work. Now, doin’ that at HOME is a different story… I could show off my new iMac 24″ goodness… THAT would be fun! :)

  21. Heather 13 June 2008 at 5:44 pm #

    You crack me up!

  22. Crystal Renaud 13 June 2008 at 5:44 pm #

that’s a new form of internet accountability… for sure.

  23. Adam 13 June 2008 at 6:18 pm #

Ok.. the time lapse thing is pretty cool.. But how do you even think about doing that. I mean where did that thought even come from. very cool stuff.

    Very nice. Go Mac.. =)
