Picture 1-48

Mark and I are headed to see Phil sing some songs down the street.
If you could have one person walk into your home tonight and sing a song to you…
Who would they be and what would they sing?

well, it depends on my mood. If Im on “the flesh” I would as Ricki Martin to sing and dance “La Bomba” for me or anything – just sing something. If I am in a “deep mood” like I am today it would definetely be Leeland with “Tears of the Saints” which I cant seem to get out of my head or United can walk in and sing “Devotion”

  2. Joanne 16 June 2008 at 3:38 pm #

Josh Groban!!! And he could sing whatever he wanted, even a TV jingle, I wouldn’t care!!

I’m still so sad over what he is going through, but I would also love to have Steven Curtis Chapman

I would have Jack Johnson come to our house and sing some songs in our back yard lit with white christmas lights, burgers on the grill and some friends. I would have him sing from the curious george movie soundtrack because my kids would love it and they are just relaxed fun songs.

  8. Renee Garcia 16 June 2008 at 4:03 pm #

Hmm I’d have to say Moi, as long as Lori-Lynn was singing backup… and I don’t care WHAT they sing because it would mean they are HERE!! haha

I just wanted to let you know that google reader is no longer recognizing my blogspot addy, and soon it probably won’t work at all, so be sure to update your link to http://www.myspecialks.com . :)

  10. The Domestic Goddess 16 June 2008 at 4:16 pm #

Hmmm…tough one. I’m thinking Kenny Loggins and his son, doing a duet. I would die a happy woman. And don’t laugh at me, I’m telling the truth.

  11. silentfool 16 June 2008 at 4:25 pm #

Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova – Falling Slowly

  12. Julio 16 June 2008 at 4:28 pm #

  17. Jake 16 June 2008 at 4:58 pm #

I didn’t even have to think! BONO…he is welcome in my home anytime. I would ask him to sing 40 or Where the streets have no names or something new that he has been working on.

  18. Leslie Brooke 16 June 2008 at 5:15 pm #

Sara Groves – And she could sing anything off of her newest album – LOVE that album. Also admire her for being the artist/missionary that she is. Amazing woman.

There’s a June 4 post on my blog about them.

  27. Jonathan 16 June 2008 at 5:59 pm #

Sufjan Stevens singing John Wayne Gacy. It would give me chills…

  28. adan 16 June 2008 at 6:02 pm #

    robert plant.

hard to narrow it down, but “in the evening” would be one of the tops. hard to decide if that’d be good without the rest of zep..

if not him then maybe billy corgan could come sing “muzzle”. that’s my coming of age song :) haha

  29. Nate Williams 16 June 2008 at 6:09 pm #

Ben Gibbard, pretty much anything he sings. Vampire Weekend would be the runner up. That is a great summer cd. But then there is Ray Boltz. He can sing “Watch the Lamb” in my living room anytime, as long as he brings his stache.

  30. Lita aka Grandma 16 June 2008 at 6:12 pm #

Michael Buble “Save the Last Dance for Me” or whatever he wants. ;o)

  34. hollybird 16 June 2008 at 6:36 pm #

Kenny Rogers.. to sing a duet with me… whichever one he chooses. I know them all. this was my childhood dream fro YEARS. When I met my husband, I met the only man I would take in Kenny’s place for that song, but secretly, I think it would still be awesome. I am a Kenny lover, and I am not ashamed! :)

  35. Karl Fisher 16 June 2008 at 6:41 pm #

Allison Krauss. She could sing a cookbook for all I care…you know, I’d probably find the longest book I could. That’s what she’d sing.

  36. 6YearMed 16 June 2008 at 6:44 pm #

Phil’s Hallelujah cover is one of the only songs I can honestly say changed my life.

I would have Derek Webb sing Bob Dylan’s “Every Grain of Sand”

  37. Brad Metzger 16 June 2008 at 6:57 pm #

    William Hung. She Bangs.

  38. drew.martin 16 June 2008 at 7:11 pm #

this is a hard one. i’d say bono, but not only is it clichĂ© but already taken.
so i decided to make a list of five, sans bono and sufjan, in no order:
    Tom Waits
    Ryan Adams
    Mat Kearney
    M. Ward
    Pete Yorn
    Chris Martin [of Coldplay]
Samuel Beam [of Iron & Wine]
    John Popper [of Blues Traveler]
    Adam Duritz [of Counting Crows]
    Thom Yorke [of Radiohead]

ok, i lied. that’s ten. but hopefully you get the idea.

  39. Duane 16 June 2008 at 7:17 pm #

Sam Cooke — “That’s Where it’s at” so my wife and I could dance…. (I realize that Sam is no longer living…but if I’m gonna dream…gotta dream big….)

    or

Willie Nelson — “Blue Eyes Cryin’ in the Rain” … gets me everytime

  40. Chip 16 June 2008 at 7:24 pm #

First time commenter…long time reader. Absolutely it would be Phil Wickham…its like the guy has vibrato built into his voice. We’ve been doing “Cannons” at Church for about a month now…wanting to do True Love…that’s still a little vocally ambitious for me. Also, he uses a TC Helicon VoiceLive on his song Beautiful…sick effect.

  41. dana kidder 16 June 2008 at 7:31 pm #

Warren Zevon-Keep Me in your Heart for a While.

‘cept he can’t cause he’s dead.

  42. AnnieD 16 June 2008 at 7:35 pm #

Phil Wickham, hands down. Any song he wants.

    Tonight was rad, huh?

  43. mike foster 16 June 2008 at 7:37 pm #

    sanjaya…to help a brother out….m.

  44. coni andress 16 June 2008 at 7:47 pm #

Loius Prima and his band. Anything. or(my other favorite Loius)
Louis Armstrong. It’s a wonderful world.
Like Duane, I’m dreaming big because they are both deceased.

  45. amy 16 June 2008 at 7:54 pm #

Chris Rice… He could sing anything…but I’d really love “I See the Moon”… Sometimes when I listen to it while driving I suddenly realize that I have no idea/memory of how I got where I was going… actually, I think that may be a tad more dangerous than beautiful ;O)

  46. CJ Mills 16 June 2008 at 8:08 pm #

Dave Matthews – 41 or Crash

  47. tina 16 June 2008 at 8:09 pm #

That’s easy.. Adam Duritz playing the piano and singing “Raining in Baltimore”.. that would be sweet.

  48. Michiel 16 June 2008 at 8:15 pm #

Martin Smith, Miracle Maker (or actually any song he’d like to sing…)

  49. Naz 16 June 2008 at 8:37 pm #

Steven Curtis Chapman- Magnifecent Obsession, When Love Takes YOu in, God is God or Up on the Mountain

    Nicole Nordeman

Wes King- Room Full of Stories

    Clay Crosse-

    Rascall Flats- My Wish

  51. Lana 16 June 2008 at 10:29 pm #

my love-ah, if i had one :-Ăž

would be a treat to have Marc Cohen sing “True Companion” — again, if I had a husband nearby. :-)

and I reallllly love Phil Wickham too. So anything really by him. Especially since he totally sings in my range and I can let loose along with him in the semi-privacy of my car singing passionately to my Jesus.

& maybe Rick Pino singing “My Romance” which is one of “those” songs to Jesus that Driscoll hates but I don’t really care. There is a place for these kinds of songs, cuz Jesus is both the fairest of ten thousand and my warrior king. Makes me wanna worship, now! Great song & thought to go off to la-la land.

  52. Robin 16 June 2008 at 10:32 pm #

    John Mayer.

And he could sing whatever the heck he wanted. Really. Anything. I wouldn’t even care as long as he was in front of me singing.

Oh man I just love that guy.

(And I’m seeing him again on July 27th!) :-)

  53. Derek Sweatman 17 June 2008 at 1:30 am #

david gray singing “it stoned me” by van morrison – the reasons are (1) i love me some david gray, (2) i think he’s the new van morrison in many ways, (3) he actually has covered this song before, (4) i used to have that track on my iTunes, and (5) i lost it and can’t find it anywhere.

    that’s mine.

possibly ben harper singing “get it like you like it” – perhaps the only song with an entire line devoted to the 86 year boston red sox curse broken by johnny d.

  54. Terry B 17 June 2008 at 3:45 am #

Been hearing a lot about Matt Giles lately, so he’d be my pick.

The Goo Goo Dolls singing “Iris”…man, now that’s a song.

  56. Rita 17 June 2008 at 4:23 am #

Wow. Your readership has some pretty diverse musical interests.

If I were picking ONE PERSON to do any song, I would pick Mark Olson (of the Jayhawks) to come and sing “Clifton Bridge”. http://www.myspace.com/markolsonmusic It would be beautiful. I would sing harmony! :)

  57. Amy 17 June 2008 at 4:39 am #

Fiona Apple anything by her maybe across the universe as long as she had her piano.

  58. Marcelo 17 June 2008 at 4:48 am #

    Michael Card.

  59. Emily 17 June 2008 at 4:48 am #

Jason Mraz…he’s just free style for like an hour, and end it with “I’m Yours” and he would let me sing with him.

  60. Susan P. 17 June 2008 at 5:00 am #

Ashley Cleveland (www.Ashley Cleveland.com) could sing her 911 song “Land of the Living” although I love her singing hymns and her rockin’ to her “Power of Love” and her cover of “Gimme Shelter” is amazing. But I’ll take Power in the Blood anyday, anyhow.

  61. erin 17 June 2008 at 5:36 am #

Diverse huh? Well how about James Taylor–just about anything, Carly Simon–Mockingbird or You’re So Vain, Bette Middler–Bugle Boy, Jim Croche–Time in a Bottle, Robin Marks–Revival, Kelly Minter–Any More Sure…I’m sure there are others But truly the most amazing experience I had listening to someone sing (and one I’d love to repeat) is hearing a kid from the orphanage down the street when I was in the sixth grade sing One Tin Soldier while Mr. Fuller, our math teacher, accompanied him on the guitar.

  72. Lisa g. 17 June 2008 at 9:21 am #

  75. Steve 17 June 2008 at 10:14 am #

If they had the piano, either John Legend or Alicia Keys. They could sing whatever they wanted because me and the wife wouldn’t be in the room anymore after the first song.

If instruments weren’t allowed – Luther Vandross “If This World Were Mine.” or “Love Won’t Let Me Wait”

  76. debbie d. 17 June 2008 at 10:24 am #

well…if resurrection is an option…I pick Karen Carpenter and she could sing whatever she pleased…now there’s a voice!

    Enrique Iglesias – Bailamos

  78. Rachel 17 June 2008 at 11:05 am #

    Oh gosh…

Dave Elkins (from Mae). He could sing “Just Let Go” or “We’re so Far Away.” Incredible songs.

And honestly…I’d love it if Phil Wickham walked into my living room with a guitar and sang one of his songs.

  79. Rachel 17 June 2008 at 11:09 am #

And I think it’s awesome that Lana chose Rick Pino! He’s a pretty crazy guy. And his voice is mesmerizing.

  84. Ron Nelson 17 June 2008 at 12:11 pm #

    Totally depends on the mood

Tom Waits – mellow, smoke filled bar writing poetry feeling

Allison Krause – Bluegrass, mountains and the great outdoors feeling. (actually, I’d listen to her no matter what!)

Bruce Springsteen – just ’cause he’s the boss

Jack and Meg White – Wanting to Rock feeling.

I could go on, but I’ll stop there.

  85. pollyh 17 June 2008 at 12:36 pm #

  91. Melody Milbrandt 17 June 2008 at 5:40 pm #

Hi Carlos – I’ve read your blog (Brody sent me) for a good while now, but have yet to comment. Tonight though, I just couldn’t pass it up. :)
If I could have anyone on earth come in and lift up their voice – it would be Phil Wickham. If I could only pick one song (although I’d definately “lobby” for more, lol) it would have to be his song “Because Of Your Love.” “Because of Your cross my debt is paid. Because of your blood my sins are washed away. Now all of my life I freely give. Becuase of Your love. Because of Your love I live…You did it for me. You did it for love. It’s Your victory. Jesus You are enough…” That song brings me to my knees every time. It shines this spotlight down, reminding me…Man, Jesus loves me SO much – incredible! :)

    In Christ – Melody Milbrandt

    P.S.
Sure have enjoyed the pics of your family. Your children and wife are beautiful. What a blessed man you are. God has His hand on your life. Can’t wait to see where He continues to lead His servant Los.
Praying his plan for you and your family.

My husband, Adam (who is deployed) singing lullabies to our twins with Ben Harper and Jack Johnson singing backup vocals and playing guitar. I play them so much that the twins think that the CDs are the same as their dad playing his acoustic to them in the living room. As soon as they hear it, they start saying, “Dada!”, and dancing.
