Sorry I’ve been so sporadic the last few days on here. For me one post a day is sporadic.
I’m about to head to rehearsal and am pumped to be leading one of Todd Fields new songs this Sunday. Salvation’s Chorus.
It is full of flying guitars and nice melodies.
What is a new song that you guys are singing that the rest of the world needs to be singing?

Obviously I am not a worship leader, but I do work in the worship world and here are some of my picks for songs I believe the world needs to know about.

    1) How He Loves Us – John Mark McMillan
    2) Healer – Planet Shakers
    3) Mercy – Parachute Band
    4) Belong To You – Kathryn Scott
    5) Stronger – Hillsong (this is our God)
    6) You Gave Your Life Away – Paul Boloche
    7) Open up the Sky – Deluge
    8) Where you go I’ll go – Brian and Jen Johnson (on Joel Auge’s album)
    9) Your Name – Paul Boloche
    10) Saviour King – Hillsong

You Gave Your Life Away. It’s simple, beautiful and one of the few worship songs to come out in a while that isn’t just completely trite or a string of cliches (doesn’t use “glorious” one time).

  3. mike brennan 4 June 2008 at 2:45 pm #

We have some awesome worship leaders writing their own stuff. “PTL” is one that definitely needs to get out there! http://www.digstation.com/AlbumDetails.aspx?albumid=ALB000015937

How He Loves Us — I’ve been singing that song all day…

  5. yeidy 4 June 2008 at 3:02 pm #

Devotion from United – I have yet to see it in a dvd and it doesnt get that much play but is really a cool song and I LOVE the word picture “when you stand the tall trees and mountains bow when you speak the fiercest of oceans is still” and making the declaration that we “trust in CREATIVE hands” which means to me that the way God makes things happen for me may not be the expected or ordinary way – oh wow… Im rambling now but yeah do Devotion, its a cool song.

  6. Christi D. 4 June 2008 at 3:08 pm #

Was going to put “How He loves us” by John Mark McMillan….seems to be the popular one around here:)

  7. amyharris 4 June 2008 at 3:36 pm #

I was just thinking about this last night….can’t wait to see other responses.

  8. Tyler 4 June 2008 at 3:38 pm #

to break up the fanfare of how he loves us. my one song is:
walk the world by charlie hall.

  9. Malachi 4 June 2008 at 3:47 pm #

God of This City – Bluetree (performed by Chris Tomlin). I agree with Jay King about Healer – PlanetShakers. It is going to be on the new Hillsong album.

We just finished a CD this fall, actually it’s an EP that coincided with a campaign to expand or current facility. The EP was called Expand (of course) and focused on expanding our faith, influence and areas of our journey with Christ.
Here is s page where yo can listen to the whole deal:
    http://www.expandcsf.com/ExpandEP/tabid/443/Default.aspx
Most of these are “sing with” songs, there are a couple that we sing to the crowd as a means to inspire or encourage. ANyway, we are really on this page lately of writing and singing songs that come from the heart of what God is doing at our church. It’s been a great journey, but we never fail to include and support all the other great songwriters out there, even those crazy kats from the ATL.
    Peace Los,
    KC

We are doing a song called “This is Where it Starts”. It’s a great congregational song with high energy.

how he loves, spring of life, broadcast, counting on God, lift high, and more

Funny you should ask because I just spent this morning tracking down old songs on Rhapsody so I could throw away the corresponding cassette mix tapes that are my only copies. Songs from the 80’s that should never be lost: “When God Ran” by Benny Hester (I know…WHO??!!) and “Face the Music,” by Mylon LeFevre (I know…totally old-school).

  14. Josh Bollen 4 June 2008 at 4:28 pm #

Not totally new . . . but “Love Came Down” by Ben Cantelon.

  15. elizabeth 4 June 2008 at 4:28 pm #

“You’ll Come” by Hillsong…can’t get it out of my head!

  16. beccity98 4 June 2008 at 4:50 pm #

Happy Day by I dunno who. (Not the old school Happy Day from Sister Act 2.)

  17. Jay Sellers 4 June 2008 at 4:54 pm #

I’d feel uncool if I don’t say “How He Loves” though I’d go for the Jesus Culture version with ebow, not JMM with the slide.

    Ebow for President!

Absolutely rockin “My Soul Sings” off Delirious? Kindom of Comfort. Well received by our group.

  18. The Domestic Goddess 4 June 2008 at 5:23 pm #

We do an awesome rocking version of How Great Thou Art at my church and it makes me tear up every time we sing it.

  19. Kelli 4 June 2008 at 5:26 pm #

I dont think its new, but “Wrap Me in Your Arms” by Michael Gungor is a song everyone can sing whole heartedly.
And I love “Hosanna” and “lead Me to The Cross” by Hillsong United

  20. Paul J. 4 June 2008 at 5:37 pm #

“A Thousand Hallelujahs” and “You Are”, both by Mark Roach. Heard them at re:create, bought the CD, our congregation LOVES them and have really connected with them. Get it, do it.
Oh and Adrienne, thanks for the old-school Broken Heart love…

  21. Wendy 4 June 2008 at 6:02 pm #

    Walk the World. Love it!

  22. deWeb 4 June 2008 at 6:10 pm #

One that I don’t know if it ever got popular, at least it didn’t around here, was “Hands in the Air” by The Waiting. I don’t know well it would translate to a service, but I would definitely describe it as a worship song. Its a few years old, or maybe ten, and I never really heard any of the band’s other music.

Let me put it this way, I could use about one and a half hands to list the ‘worship’ songs that might actually move me. This is one and the rest are either old Five Iron songs or really old hymns.

At least check it out. I almost just put “Living Dead Girl” by Rob Zombie.

  24. Summer Kelly 4 June 2008 at 6:54 pm #

Well, we’re not singing them at our church (yet!), but 3 songs that I absolutely LOVE and think the whole world should be singing are all from the same album:

DEVOTION — Hillsong United “All of the Above”
—> This song, every time I hear it, I think of the new Prince Caspian movie (which is awesome, btw).

SOLUTION — Hillsong United “All of the Above”
—> I actually have the lyrics and YouTube video of this one up on my blog right now.

POINT OF DIFFERENCE — (also) Hillsong United “All of the Above”

Great, great album… I need to drop a hint to our worship leader. ;>)

  25. Jay King 4 June 2008 at 7:10 pm #

Totally forgot to mention Bluetree!!! GOD OF THIS CITY is amazing. Also..I do love Kim Walkers version of How He Loves Us.

  26. Jad 4 June 2008 at 7:41 pm #

We’ve been doing a lot of short choruses as tags to the end of songs. Very similar to Hillsong stuff. This weekend I’m totally fired up about From the Inside Out>A Reprise>Mighty to Save. A Reprise should be AWESOME. All Hillsong.

There’s this relatively new cd i’ve been listening to, Tenth Avenue North. The first track and single, “Love is Here”, has a powerful message that can’t be denied. It isn’t tailored for a worship service, but it could be tweaked to fit nicely.

There’s a ton of other stuff on the cd that could be used in someway too, like “By Your Side”, “Hold My Heart”, “Times”, “Beloved”, etc. I’ll let you take a listen and see what you make of it, but it’s definitely great stuff.

    there’s a review here:

We have been digging into the new Gateway Worship album. The song Promises on that album our congregation loved! Also, The More I Seek You and REvelation Song by Kari Jobe

  29. Lana 4 June 2008 at 9:42 pm #

“Open Up the Sky” by Jonathan Stockstill

    “You’ll Come” by Hillsong United.

    Fantastic, both.

  30. Jay 5 June 2008 at 2:07 am #

We’ve been singing Sing Sing Sing from Passion for a couple of weeks. It really gets everyone moving. I’ve also seen my favorite on here a couple of times, Hillsong’s “Devotion”. Great, great song.

  31. Travis 5 June 2008 at 4:37 am #

“Lord, I Life Your Name on High.”

    Totally.

  32. Lisa E 5 June 2008 at 5:28 am #

ALthough I may be a little biased, when Paul J. mentioned Mark Roach’s “Thousand Hallelujahs” I had to smile. That was one of the first songs I heard in worship the first service I re-connected with God, and the introduction to the incredible world of modern Christian music. You see, I am spoiled and blessed to hear Mark’s music every week, and whether he is playing his own songs, Tomlin, Redman, Baloche, Switchfoot or Coldplay, it’s his music brought me back to church and keeps me downloading new stuff every Sunday on itunes.

And at the risk of sounding like I’m giving a shameless plug, if you have his cd, listen up to “Foundations”- maybe not designed for worship service per se, but one of the most moving songs I’ve ever heard.

    Shameless plugs:
“Gave me a Reason” by Tony Chavez and Nick Agimudie, I seriously cannot get it out of my head.
“One Breath” by Tony Chavez, so memorable, great hook, amazing lyric, a true JAM of worship.

    Not so shameless plug:
    You deserve – Hillsong United
    You Reign – Hillsong United.
Both are from “In a Valley by the Sea”

    And you cannot forget…
Hosanna – Hillsong (bridge gives me goosbumps just thinking about it.)

  43. dionicio 5 June 2008 at 8:16 am #

    I Agree with Mocha,

“Gave Me a Reason” Tony Chavez and Nick Agimudie
    “One Breath” Tony Chavez

Keep your eyes and ears open for these guys!

I cannot believe this many grown men are singing a song with the words “sloppy wet kiss” in it (”How He Loves”)!!! We do the song but I changed the lyric to “When Heaven meets earth, no heart can resist”). The first line of Verse 2 is also completely theologically incorrect (”We are His portion”)! We tweaked that to “He is our portion, He is our prize”. How come nobody else noticed that???

I’m dying to do “Revelation Song” but there’s no way I’m singing that “clothed in rainbows” line. Real men don’t sing about rainbows. Ever.

O yea, everybody should check out the live version of “My Future Decided” from the new United album – it KICKS plus you can go double-string bend crazy during the solo!

  45. eric 5 June 2008 at 8:40 am #

    “Meant to live” – Switchfoot…
Not necessarily a new song, but new to us.

    Youth group loves this one…
    “King of Majesty” – Hillsong

    I love this one…
    “In Your Freedom” – Hillsong

“From the Corners of the Earth”, from Starfield’s album I Will Go. Excellent to go along with oneprayer.com as this awesome work kicks off in over 1300 churches this coming weekend…props to Derrick Henslee, Worship Pastor at the Tulsa campus of lifechurch.tv for turning me onto this in his set list this past weekend…

  48. Mocha 5 June 2008 at 9:26 am #

Speaking of “Gave me a Reason” by Tony Chavez and Nick Agimudie… you do know that you can download the track here right? http://destinychurch.typepad.com/tony/2008/05/garageband-wors.html
