Throwin’ Rocks At Yo BooDaddy // Sohaila’s Toof

Posted on 29. Jul, 2008 by loswhit in Dad Vids, Family

This was my first experience with doing the tooth wiggle thing.
I’ll admit. I was stressed.

I love my life.

my boys were the same way – stressed till it was done, then “that was it”….

Dude, MOST people wait until they fall on their own. That was cruel and unusual punishment that you put your kid through . . . ;)

My son begs for me to pull his teeth out. He’s all about that money under the pillow. He’s 7 and lost 4 teeth in the last month. Fun times.

Carlos, I read your blog pretty frequently, I’m a friend of Rachel’s and have actually met you before at some CFA openings, but that’s beside the point… I LOVED this video!! It is so entertaining. Keep them coming and thanks for the laughs.

I don’t know of anyone who ever pulled their kid’s teeth out like that. My grandpa used to pull his mother-in-law’s (my great-grandma) molars with his bare hands when they got bad and would bother her; they didn’t believe in/couldn’t afford going to the doctor.
I lost my first tooth biting into a cookie, it was a Nilla wafer. I also lost a tooth in a wad of gum, that was fun. My cousins used to do the door knob method. You know take string, loop one end around the tooth, the other to a door knob, then slam the door. Quite effective. Biting an apple works too, but can be painful.

So, Los – does the tooth fairy come to your house?

  7. Kim @ Forever Daisies 29 July 2008 at 8:39 pm #

“am i supposed to pull it or rip it?” HAHA! I would have freaked if my parents said that to me! However, I always hate having loose teeth and yanked them out myself! :)

    fun video!

i LOVED this video. the music totally made it. aww, bless it. she’s so cute. there’s something about when kids lose their teeth that just make them look so much older. my nephew is 7 and has no front teeth. it is the saddest thing. lol. congrats on a job well done. my mom would say, “pull it out” and she’s a former dental hygienist. so i think you did the right thing.

  9. Clayman 29 July 2008 at 8:41 pm #

My oldest was so freaked about it. Now she does it on her own. “Daddy, I lost my other dog tooth today!”

  10. maureen erickson 29 July 2008 at 8:41 pm #

FYI…tie dental floss around it, just one loop- not a knot and pull both ends quickly and the tooth pops out.

the picture of her smile at the end… omgoodness, too precious!!

Kevin // My parents pulled mine out. And she asked for it. She was scared she would swallow it at night.
And yea. My parents pulled mine out as well.

My 8 year old prefers the “twisting” method but he has to do it himself.

Oh, one of the most traumatic of childhood experiences — the wiggly tooth! I HATED it as a kid. This video had me wincing and turning my head repeatedly because I just couldn’t keep watching it. Oh, the pain, the worry, the fear! Did you ever wonder, why didn’t God just create our teeth so that they could grow with us like the rest of our body parts do so we could avoid the whole terrible thing!?

  14. Liana 29 July 2008 at 9:04 pm #

The feeling I had watching that video is the same feeling I have when I watch a horror movie. I was actually covering my eyes and peeking through my fingers. I don’t now what I’m going to do when my little one wants me to do the same thing. But I guess that’s what dads are for.

  15. Loran 29 July 2008 at 9:08 pm #

    Dude
I’m 3000 miles away and you had me sitting on the edge of my seat. I almost cheered out loud when it came out.
    Great job los & Heather!
    You’re fun parents!

  16. leigh 29 July 2008 at 9:19 pm #

    she is the cutest!

  17. Neener 29 July 2008 at 9:36 pm #

Admittedly, I don’t watch most of your videos. I don’t know why I watched this one. Why did I think it was a good idea to watch that??? My teeth hurt for her!!!

I think I was a pansy as a kid because I had to have two of my teeth pulled by a dentist. I guess for my parents $$$ < “rip” out teeth.

  18. beth 29 July 2008 at 10:29 pm #

Oh my gosh, that was worst than Jurassic Park,I had both feet up on my chair. I will never be able to do that to my boys!!! She was such a sport, and good job dad. She better get something good from that tooth fairy!

  19. sarah 29 July 2008 at 10:55 pm #

you do love that song for all your quasi-intense moments

  20. Anna 30 July 2008 at 12:34 am #

That was one of the coolest, little sweetheart! I loved the music too – totally made it.

  21. Katie 30 July 2008 at 12:49 am #

I love her sweet little trusting face. She knows Daddy’s gonna take care of her. I am so not ready for my babies’ teeth to start falling out. It’s gonna be a “daddy duty” around here.

  22. whittakerwoman 30 July 2008 at 1:54 am #

    Thanks baby… H

  23. Brad Ruggles 30 July 2008 at 3:31 am #

Yeah man, there’s nothing like wiggling and yanking a little tooth out of your kid’s head. I don’t know why us Dads enjoy that kind of stuff so much but we do.

  24. Mandy 30 July 2008 at 4:02 am #

How much is she getting for the first one? that’s a biggie! Of course, then she’ll expect that much for EACH tooth.

The going rate here (Granger) is $20 a tooth. GASP!

  25. Jenni Catron 30 July 2008 at 4:27 am #

Ok, that totally stressed me out!

  26. Tracy Edwards 30 July 2008 at 4:28 am #

I have two empty operatories in my dental practice if you would like to expand your patient base!!! I loved this video. She is amazingly cute!

  27. Andy McMahon 30 July 2008 at 4:55 am #

This video was awesome. I want to see the video of the Tooth Fairy now…

    Outfit and all…….

    I’m just sayin….

  28. jessica 30 July 2008 at 5:06 am #

You did a much better job than my dad! He stood me up on the hearth and used the wire pliers. I am not kidding! So glad Sohalia’s experience was better! She is so cute!

  29. Heather 30 July 2008 at 5:14 am #

    LOVE the dramatic background music!

  30. Amy (Dandelion Seeds) 30 July 2008 at 5:22 am #

Too funny! So, FYI for next time… use some anbesol… it’s easier to “yank” it when it’s numb! :)

  31. Aaron 30 July 2008 at 5:31 am #

You guys are such good parents!

I am pretty sure the old man tore out my first few. To a 7 year old my father has HUGE HANDS so I got all freaked out and said “Forget this! I am doing it myself.” We used ambesol (sp) a lot to numb things, too.

I am curious if the Whittakers are going to have a tooth fairy come an visit.

  32. Rachel 30 July 2008 at 5:43 am #

My son had a hard time with his front tooth and my husband and I had just decided we would to let it fall out on it’s own…a few days later we were eating at McDonald’s and my son took a bite of his cheeseburger and out came the tooth. He’s response..”someone’s tooth is in my cheeseburger” He didn’t even realize it came out.
Do you guys do the tooth fairy thing? If so how much do you give? This is an ongoing disagreement at our house.

  33. Brandy 30 July 2008 at 6:03 am #

She is so stinkin cute! My four year old is DYING to lose a tooth, I will let him watch this….he can live vicariously through her.

  34. Eric 30 July 2008 at 7:25 am #

Hey Carlos, our son Brennan lost his first tooth on the 19th of July! I feel ya man!

    Peace,

    E

  35. Kevin M. 30 July 2008 at 7:33 am #

Carlos, just yanking your chain! ;)

BTW, awesome video!! The music definitely added to the excitement! :)

  36. krissy leigh 30 July 2008 at 9:13 am #

i had to watch this with my hands over my eyes.. ahh!!!
she’s such a cutie. you are a good daddy!

  37. Meghan 30 July 2008 at 9:45 am #

So my mom has totally done the whole “just let me look at it” thing and the next thing i know my tooth is in her hand!

my brother who is 13 yrs younger lost his first tooth one day in preschool during lunch in his hotdog! his teacher FREAKED, but he seems unphased. it was pretty amazing.

  38. Amber 30 July 2008 at 9:58 am #

I was so stressed out watching that. I love the drama of the music you chose. You’re funny.

  39. daphne 30 July 2008 at 11:28 am #

That vidoe had me on the edge of my seat like a season fanalie of Lost! I gotta go lie down. Congrats people!!

  40. soozieque 30 July 2008 at 11:43 am #

I could tell you were nervous! I don’t remember my parents ever pulling my teeth out for me, pretty much because as soon as one came loose I went after it myself like a mad fiend. If the had ambesol back then (numbs your gums, great stuff) then I probably would have taken a pair of pliers to my loose teeth!

  41. eryn 30 July 2008 at 11:50 am #

i love your life too.. haha

  42. Keith 30 July 2008 at 12:31 pm #

    OOoohhh! The Drama!!!
    Priceless, Los!

  43. stephen 30 July 2008 at 1:05 pm #

That stresses me out…I’m seriously kinda being a wuss about this. And then I’m almost in tears thinking about my own little girls.

There is NOTHING in life even close to being a parent. I could be dirt poor (wait…I already am), living in a box, blind, deaf, and mute, and my girls would still give me enough happiness to fill a thousand lifetimes.

  44. Anthony C. 30 July 2008 at 1:08 pm #

Dang! That music added suspense! lol. congrats on the tooth pulling los.

  45. amy sanders 30 July 2008 at 2:06 pm #

my four year old just watched this…good prep for what’s to come. maybe you guys could start a video school of stuff like this. ;)

  46. Kristi 30 July 2008 at 6:27 pm #

    Geez – that was stressful!

  47. Jacinda 31 July 2008 at 4:18 pm #

I just wish it happened when I was there! The girls watched it with me and Kiara said,” Awwww. I’m so proud of Sohaila! I wish I could have wiggled her tooth!”

  48. Rhi 2 August 2008 at 1:43 pm #

you know. i’m sure the video would’ve been perfect the way it was. but truly. the editing and music just added that last touch. SO CUTE! I got like 4-5 years before i’ll have to deal with that. i’ll call you and heather in to do it for me. =0)
