If this was kid #1, we would have panicked.
Since this was kid #3, we took a picture.

Time to turn the humidifier on.

I would have freaked, just because it looks like a horror movie.

    crazy but kinda cute?!

he looks so calm, but he may not have seen the mirror yet…

That happened to me when I was little and I woke up and saw it in the mirror before my mom and dad. I thought I would get in trouble, so I washed it all off and went back to bed. Oh the memories.

We have those here. I remember getting them when I was little. Once at camp, and I didn’t want to wake up a counselor in the middle of the night, so I just sat there in the cabin bathroom, going through paper towels like crazy.

Okay, until I saw the line about the humidifier… I thought it was jelly, for real. Oh my!

Holy Crap! Having raised 5 kids, we have seen that picture quite a few times. Our 16 year old had the worse problem with nose bleeds and he would show-up bedside looking like an actor out of some horror movie.

    That’s awesome! Be Blessed

    Bryan

  9. adam 18 August 2008 at 5:20 am #

holy crap!! dude has nosebleeds like i used to.

check this out.. when i was growing up i’d have spectacular nosebleeds such as this. they just wouldn’t stop. one of my mom’s friends was a wrestling coach and had a homeopathic remedy to get the bleeds to stop. it sounds crazy but i swear it worked 80% of the time.

lay face down, relax. grab the foot that’s opposite of the nostril that’s bleeding – say you’re bleeding from the left nostril, grab the right foot.

bend the leg 90*, hold the foot/ankle, and slap the bottom of the foot towards the heel a few times.

my dad did this to me hundreds of times after i’d get a nosebleed and it really did help.. it’s not a cure-all, but if the bleed is bad and won’t stop then give it a shot! that is, if losiah is able to hold still long enough. i know my 2 year old wouldn’t be able to!

So true about kid #3. We have three kids and every time our first one leaned the wrong way, we were checking for head injuries. Now with three, as long as bones are not protruding, they get a pat on the backside.

  17. Brandi 18 August 2008 at 7:17 am #

Oh God…next time PLEASE with a warning and a cut. I just had to put my head between my knees so I didn’t pass out and leave two kids on their own.

    Still lightheaded…

  18. natedavidscott 18 August 2008 at 7:26 am #

  19. Dan 18 August 2008 at 7:28 am #

  20. Malachi 18 August 2008 at 7:46 am #

Did you let him watch Dark Night? He looks a bit like The Joker. “Why so serious?” heh

  21. Chris J 18 August 2008 at 7:51 am #

wow that’s a brutal nosebleed… have you tried brown paper bag folded and tucked behind the top lip between lip and upper gums? used to stop mine all the time.
I’ll be prayin for those to stop! Much love to you and your fam

  22. Rhi 18 August 2008 at 7:57 am #

OMG! i’d freak. i guess i’ll have to brace myself and expect it. do you just sit with your camera in your hand? or did you make him wait for you to get it and take the pic before you cleaned him up? hehe

  23. April 18 August 2008 at 8:28 am #

    Poor little boy!
I hope you have stock in OxiClean!! It does wonders on getting blood out of the laundry!!

  27. Jackie @ Family Daze 18 August 2008 at 9:27 am #

As a mother of seven, my first thought was — the blood stains!

  28. Amy 18 August 2008 at 9:40 am #

I used to get the worst bloody noses ever up untill I was about 16. I had one that bled for 6 hours straight my mom was about to take me to the emergency room when it finally stopped. But I had them all my life and they would last for forever. Poor kid! But that is kind of scary to wake up to I’d imagine.

    Los,

We had the same gig with Julia. We also added the humidifier. But the thing that worked the best was this product, “OCEAN GEL.” It’s a moisturizing gel for all ages. Our friends we’re having the same issue, tried it, and swear by it. I’ll go to Heather’s site and tell her too.

    Blessings,
    Roxx

  31. deWeb 18 August 2008 at 1:23 pm #

  32. J 18 August 2008 at 2:02 pm #

Your kid needs a humidifier in ATL? Just send him outside for a few minutes every night before bed time and say “Breath Deep kid!” The amount of humidity in this air should keep him set for days!!

    :)

  33. Joni 18 August 2008 at 2:13 pm #

What’d the other guy look like?

  34. Carolyn F 18 August 2008 at 3:01 pm #

We haven’t been “blessed” with nosebleeds, but I have been to the “suture room” with both boys, more than once. And I’ve taken the camera more than once. Hope he’s feeling better… wow!

  35. Tara R 18 August 2008 at 3:56 pm #

    mercy! what happened?

  36. Juli Jarvis 18 August 2008 at 5:09 pm #

This is pretty shocking to see, especially considering what we came across yesterday morning following a Compassion event — I just posted the story — please pray for this girl named Shantel.

  37. Angie 18 August 2008 at 11:17 pm #

    oh my gosh…no way!!

  38. Dee 19 August 2008 at 5:16 am #

I can remember waking up with the sheet stuck to my face because of nosebleeds. This happened one time after we got married and my husband who never dealt with nosebleeds (except due to football injuries or fights) ripped the sheet off my face as I was trying to explain to him to get the sheet wet first. Well, when the sheet ripped off it started bleeding again. Of course that really freaked my husband out then.

I adopted my first child, baby boy from S. Korea, on January 23, 2008. Every cough, fall and scratch has me jumping. Thanks for sharing. Your son looks a bit like my son.

  40. Ryan 19 August 2008 at 10:48 am #

He looks like he was attacked by samurai monkeys using strawberry jelly as a weapon of choice..

  41. Gabriel McGee 19 August 2008 at 1:21 pm #

Holy Crudmuffins! If My siblings woke up and came into my room like that, my parents would find me in my room curled up into a ball, wobbling back and forth!

    Wow!

  42. Erik 19 August 2008 at 11:27 pm #

I laughed really hard when i first saw this picture. Does that make me a bad person?

It does makes me want to have a tough little guy someday!!! Just married 4 months ago though, so i can wait!

  43. Scott Williams 20 August 2008 at 5:38 am #

I remember those days w/ my oldest son!

  44. Zack Arias 20 August 2008 at 8:14 am #

That is the funniest caption I have read in a long time…

@Adam – Lay down, hold the opposite leg, and slap the foot? Who in the world got that figured out? Can you imagine all the other things they tried?

    :)

    Cheers,
    Zack

  45. sarah 20 August 2008 at 7:30 pm #

seeing as ive never had a bloody nose…i didnt quite get what had happened to him til i started reading the comments.
    how do they happen anyway?
    poor kid..

  46. Aimee Cait 21 August 2008 at 7:57 am #

Oh, bless his heart! That’s pretty much how our family works, though. I’m the 2nd of 6… at this point, my parents are just exhausted. It’s not “Are you bleeding?” that gauges the seriousness of any given flesh wound. It’s more like “How much are you bleeding? …well, can you drive yourself to the ER?” I like to think that I’m a tougher kid for it.
