I’m learning that planning and structure needs to go hand in hand with heart and passion. The people I serve through leadership need to know and see my heart and passion for worship in order to understand and want to follow our plans and structures.(http://andrewedwards.wordpress.com/2008/09/01/planning-structure-vs-heart-passion/)

I’m also pondering the question “What is the purpose of a church service?” Is it to primarly worship God, or to hear the Word, or to Fellowship, learn, grow etc? What level of importance should be placed on the elements that make up a church service? Is the Word more important than the ‘singing time’, what about fellowship and service?

Carlos i’d love this to be a post question to see what other people are thinking about the purpose of a church service!

When you have a passion it seeps out in whatever you do or say. I knew a guy whose passion was evangelism. No matter what he preached on or talked about he would find a way to bring in his love for evangelism. I don’t even think he did it consciously it was just what was in his heart. My passion is different than his but everytime I heard him speak he lead me to want to share Jesus a little more and more effectively.

As a leader my passions can movitvate and inspire others. When I am not passionate I think people feel it. I want my leaders to respect my passions and inspire me with theirs.

This is a great post and a great reminder to go big. I am chewing on the lesson of “wow i never thought that would happen”. It seems like good leaders have a sense about them where they don’t get “caught” off guard. but then people are… well, people and they’ll surprise you. how does a leader respond when we have those moments of “wow I never thought that would happen”… good or bad. i plan on writing some more about it once i dig through it some more.

That God will do the work in my own heart FIRST then I must lead out of that. Live it, then lead it. Henri Nouwen said something along the lines of “It is foolishness to think that a man can lead people out of the desert that has never been there before.” Our own spiritual journey prepares us for the work God is doing in the body we are leading.

Being a NPM partner church, we’re encouraged to not just copy, but to take transferable principles, make them local, and shift when needed. I love how we’re encouraged to take risks even when (or because) things have worked in the past.
