Hurricane Torn Baton Rouge Needs Our Help!!! from Catalyst on Vimeo.
OK. Ragamuffin Soul. Time to step up.
Seriously.
Time to sacrifice the date night this month.
Time to sacrifice the family Braves game this month.
Head over to this site and buy a case of tarps for the victims of Hurricane Gustav.
Let us know in the comments section below if you were able to pull this off.
My boy LV asked Pastor Dino what he needed to help the victims…
“As of Friday, Sept. 5th, power is expected to be out in parts of southern Louisiana for 4-6 weeks; homes are destroyed, and many people in “the bayou” have yet to be reached. They need help!
We asked Dino what they need and how the Catalyst audience might be able to help.”
The answer… Blue Tarps.Blue Tarps.Blue Tarps.Blue Tarps.Blue Tarps.Blue Tarps.

Order your blue tarps at this link and have it shipped here

It’s not easy. But I believe we can take a step away from our own comfort to provide it to those who have none.

Heather and I just bought 2 cases of 20 tarps.
I still need to tell her though.
Just bought a case of 5 20×20 tarps. Dirty Flower beat you to it though. Oh yeah, and Felicity doesn’t know it yet either.
I already sent three cases. Pastor Dino Rocks he comes to the Ham and preaches often.
My brother lives in Baton Rouge. They are being told they’ll be without power for at least a month total. He said most people are on generator power, cooking on grills, and communicating by cell.
He told me that one of the huge problems is the cost of fuel to run the generators or gas/charcoal grills. Many people can’t afford to run them (to power some kind of ac unit to dry out the homes), but need to or else the damage already done by water will cause mold and other problems.
I live in Baton Rouge and yes tarps are needed but not as much as electricity. My home is still without electricity and has been since last Monday. My husband and I and our 5 month old and 3 year old have been staying with my best friend and her roommate in her 2 bedroom 2 bath apartment. Of course you would know at 10:45 pm last night her power went out and has yet to come back on. Its just frustrating going through this especially with two little ones. I want so badly to sleep in my own bed!!! : ) I just thank God that nothing happened to our house but yet I feel for the ones who had trees go right through their house.
I’m in!
We just bought 2 cases of 20.
Thanks!!!
Evette.
wow. thanks los from all of us here at healing place church for bringing attention to the need here. means a ton to have such a great amount of support from bloggers and twitterers – amazing what’s already getting done just by putting the word out.
and thanks to all of you who are responding to the call for tarps. i think lv’s initial goal of fifty tarps has already been blown out several times over.
thanks!
2 more cases of 20 here.
Mark in So Cal
fyi – don’t let that stop you – that we’ve got so many more than lv’s goal of fifty. there’s still need for thousands – just so cool to see that the readers of just one blog were able to already do so much.
thanks!
Just ordered some.. Very easy link by the way.
thanks for the PSA about this need! i’m going to link folks at my blog to yours so that more can be solicited to meet this need.
i bought a case using my tips from my Starbucks job from this past week, this week, and next week! i love being able to do something tangible, esp. since it looks like Ike is headed that way.
I was just down in that area last week passing out water, ice, food and blue tarps with Convoy of Hope.
We had a semi load of blue tarps down there.
Only could afford 3. But I hope it helps!!!
I’m in for a case
Hey Los, thank you so much for doing this! We are still without power so I have not been able to look at your blog.
There are some really poor areas around Baton Rouge that have been hit hard, the tarps at least will keep the weather out.
We have been tarping, cutting trees, feeding hot meals, etc. and just knowing the body of Christ is with us really is encouraging.
So many great organizations have been here to help, it’s amazing. So again, thanks.
I have posted a couple Gustav stories on my blog if you want to read them.
God bless.

Yeah man, kudos Los!
But please, I live in Baton Rouge and we are not all “down in the Bayou.” Dino’s cool and all but I hate the impression that we’re all “down in the Bayou.” I live in a neighborhood like many found all across the nation and will be without power at LEAST until September 29th. Sherwood Forrest was demolished.
There’s a great need all across our city and our state for all people. Thanks again man! And thanks to Dino to putting this out there!
hey – a little clarification here if i may regarding worshipcity’s comment – i was in that interview, and pastor dino did not (nor does the video imply) that he said we’re all down in the bayou. he was making the point that so many in the southern part of our state which is (very factually) in the bayou really took a beating from gustav and we are looking for help for them.
we don’t wish to create the impression that all of louisiana is bayou – there are indeed many of us who live in cities. but we also do have many people (several on our staff) who DO live in the bayou and are very proud of that.
i’m not ashamed of our state, and i’m not bothered if anyone thinks stereotypically of me because i live here – whether that’s “in de bayou” or “in a perkins rowe condo” – doesn’t matter. the point is that there are people who need help – wherever they live. and right now there’s a lot of them “in the bayou” that need a whole lotta love of Jesus.
Wow, Dan no worries. I just find it funny, every time someone mentions Louisiana “the bayou” is always mentioned like it’s in everyone’s backyard.
“the point is that there are people who need help – wherever they live.”
Amen!
