I also like Chipotle, but for local fare… I’ve gotta go with Armandos Mexican Restaurant (Detroit, MI) on West Vernor. Tamales, burritos, a mountain of beans and rice, and some flan is perfect.

my favorite lunch place is just outside of Seattle at Yummy Teriyaki (that is the real name) On monday’s you gotta go with the special, Spicy Chicken and Gyoza, but if you are out on a Wednesday or Thursday the special Sweet and Sour chicken will make you punch your uncle right in the teeth. It’s that good.

Well, my husband and I just moved to Wake Forest, NC. It’s a SMALL town…but the gem that brightens up my day is this little spot called The Well. The food is delicious and if you’re into coffee (I’m not, but maybe you are) they have alllll kinds of stuff…they could give Starbuck’s a run for their money.
The coolest thing about this friendly little restaurant is that it converts into a church on Sundays. Pretty cool.

Big Daves BBQ in Longview, TX – they have this thing called the “Big Dave” plate that weighs about 5 pounds. Imagine frito pie with chopped brisket, chopped smoked sausage, beans, bbq sauce, pickles, onions, and jalepenos. If that isn’t enough, they have “baked potato salad” that is complete with sour cream, chives, and bacon. You get two sides, so go with the homemade macaroni and cheese, and make sure the paramedics are on stand-by with a cart to carry your button-popped, zipper-ripped self out of there.

I could bust my belt anywhere, but if I was picky.

ATL. Maggianos-family style…find someone with a discount card of course…

Or Puerto Rico: Gaucho’s…amazing Argentinean food. They have some amazing Churrasco the flops off the sides of the plate…

In Wichita, KS it’s Hog Wild Pit B-B-Q. I miss it Soooo much! We’re in Milwaukee now and they don’t know a thing about B-B-Q here. So, for now, I go to a local coffee house called “The Fixx”. Beef and Pepperjack panini. Yummy!

  34. Keith 8 September 2008 at 1:32 pm #

Oh! When we were in Ft. Worth it was Cousin’s BBQ baked potato loaded with brisket. Man! Do I miss that!

Well, Jason up there took mine….Yummy Terayaki outside Seattle. Dang.
For another one, try Il Fornaio in downtown Seattle. If I could handle super rich Italian carbohydrates everyday, I DEFINITELY would. =)

Lets keep it simple, Carlos… Five Guys. And in Athens we have our choice of a couple. NOTHING fills me up lately like one of their burgers and some Cajun fries.

    EricD: It’s pronounced Chi-POT-lay. Long O sound.

The favorite local burrito joint in San Antonio, Texas, is Habanero’s Grill, whose catchy but tacky slogan is Size Does Matter. I’m also a fan of the fish tacos at Beto’s. Mmmmm.

Smoothie King on Piedmont. It’s not the smoothie that gets me; it’s the really amazing chocolate chip bread!

mmm… I’m so jealous. We don’t have Chipotles in Tennessee, but they’re my FAVORITE!

Here in Maryville, the best lunch in town is Subs ‘n Such.

Chipotle? Isn’t that big chain mex?
try: Tacos El Gordo’s tacos de adobado in Chula Vista, CA. Spiced pork sliced fresh off the spit and into your taco. Awesome.
or, Las Quatros Milpas in San Diego. Line out the door every day for lunch. Dirty, run down, ugly and fantastic!

    Thanks!

Pappadeaux (cajun seafood) gets me every time. The only problem is that it’s in the “hood” off of JC Boulevard. But the bloat and induced nap time is SO worth it!

Caleb stole my other one…Maggiano’s. One serving is enough to feed a prison. But it’s really, really good. Don’t tell her I said this, but their pasta is better than my Mom’s — and we’re Italian! …..

Love Chipotle! So funny to see your post today after the “ragamuffintop tip” I shared yesterday. :) http://vanebrown.wordpress.com/2008/09/06/ragamuffintop-tip/

  54. Dee 8 September 2008 at 7:41 pm #

Ok I have to agree with the other Texans.

Taco Beuno is cheap and good but can’t forget Taco Cabana. Chipolte and Moe’s are ok but they just aren’t Freebirds. I’ve been to the ones in Ft. Worth & the original in College Station.

Cousins is Ft. Worth is pretty good but not as good as Spring Creek. Also, Goode Company in Houston Amazing.

Charley’s Burgers in Ft. Worth are amazing. The Great Burger is huge.

One of my favorite places is Hollywood & Vine at Disney’s Hollywood Studio (Walt Disney World). It is an all you can eat place. I know it is an at a theme park but it isn’t your normal park food.

  55. Nathan GIlmer 8 September 2008 at 8:17 pm #

Chipotle for me too. Still waiting for one here in Lynchburg though.

5 Guys Burgers in Huntersville, North Carolina. While you are eating-it’s amazing (although I could do without the enormous bag they call “small fries”).Then you suddenly feel like a truck hit ya–
Tip: never eat there if you have to move more than a houseplant.
