Leading Worship In My Boxers

Posted on 22. Sep, 2008 by loswhit in Religion, Web/Tech

So last night I did something cool.

ls_worship_behind.png

With Tony, Brandon, and Rich watching and producing, I sat in my bathroom during the live part of LifeShare and led worship for about 170 people online.

I could not hear them singing but I could read their chats.
I caught myself saying things like…
“Now Type Out A Praise To Our God!!!”
In a matter of seconds hundreds of lines filled the chat room
During Marvelous Light I said…
“Type out when you dead heart became fully alive!!!”
Dates started flying across the screen.
It was, quite literally, the coolest time of worship I have ever led.

Click that image, put your glasses on, and read what people were worshipping through their keyboards.
The next thing I asked them to do while singing the bridge to Marvelous Light was take screen shots of them worshiping during “Lift your hands and spin around!!!”

A couple peeps even plugged in and had LIFE SIZE LIFE SHARE.

All in all it was a great and historic evening. Of’course there are COUNTLESS ways the local church can use this as a tool.
It works. People worshiped their Lord and the heavens rejoiced.

I was blessed to be a part of it and blessed that LifeChurch.tv is thinking so far outside the box that most churches don’t even know that box exists.
HEre is what happened live…

Were you there and how can you see the internet continue to be used as the real space that it is… Los

I can’t begin to tell you how it fills me with joy to see so many regular people doing so much worship. It’s awesome, Los. What a great thing you have done. I’m sure our Father smiles on you this day. Just completely inspiring and heartwarming.

it was so very cool. but i’m glad you told us about the boxers after it was over.
    ;-)

So cool…What I love about this is how well it can target young people. Social media sites like MySpace, Facebook, YouTube, etc can even further connect Christ-followers across the globe. This stuff is so exciting.

I did not catch the boxers due to worshipping, ewww ;)

guess who else was wearing [only!] boxers…and it wasn’t me. =)

Wow… that would be my living room on ragamuffinsoul.com.

The worship was great last night Los!

    Thanks dude,

Just out of curiosity, was it “legal” or against copyright or whatever to broadcast those songs?

    I looked on http://www.churchca.com/puzzle.htm but couldn’t figure it out…

We’re trying to figure stuff like this out for our church too…

  9. J 22 September 2008 at 10:21 am #

Still disheartened that I missed it!

    :(

The worship last night was off the hook, Los (but I really want to hear “reflection”….guess I’ll have to come to Buckhead and experience that one). THANKS for not standing up while you led worship. Might have been one of those “quench the Spirit” kind of moments!

That was sooo cool. We don’t have a Sunday night service and I don’t really want another repeat of the Sunday morning. But I loved the unplugged style like house church. Awesome! Plus I could multi-task on Facebook as well.

I’d say that between the Emmy’s, the Packer/Cowboy game and the online worship…the worship won that battle hands down.

Just to see the interaction live within the chat was incredible. We peaked at 184 that night!

The irony of this is I think the high-tech internet tools allow us to connect on a more intimate non-produced level (webcam, boxers, :) ). I think the less produced live aspect of the web that involves all the users is more powerful than the heavily produced non-interactive. This is where I am dreaming right now!!

No, all the cool stuff happens at 3am Germany time, but it appears as if you recorded it. I’m about to get my “delayed reaction” PRAISE ON!!

    I was there!!!
I”m the big blue blur picture! HAHA.
Apparently I had some of my 3 yr old’s birthday festivities still up in the kitchen (we don’t keep pink things up normally :)

    Last night was killer!

oh baby, the next generation of leadership has truly caught of fire with the Spirit of God!

    EXCITING

Watched the recordings!! I really, truly dislike Mogulus and so does my computer, but the other options out there aren’t that much better. Aside from that…
What a blessed night dude!! Had tears in my eyes listening and watching a day late.

  20. Zack 22 September 2008 at 12:10 pm #

Just a random thought, but did anybody else notice the “Meet Christian Girls Free” mogulus add?

Take another look at the screenshot…

couldn’t watch live last night, but look forward to watching the previously recorded event here in the next hour or so!

    We were there–loved it. Thanks!

It was one of the coolest nights of worship I’ve ever had. There was nothing to distract me. Nobody to view around me. No fear in worshiping freely. It was what God had thought of when he thought of a community of believers singing praises.

I recognize that on this or any site an occasional dip into the muck and mire is inevitable since we are all still imperfect humans but…posts like this one are what make our ragsoul brother aMAZEing!!

Sure, this post only has about 25 comments but that’s only because it’s not controversial. Regardless of the comment-count, this is still one of your best posts EVER!

Keep pushing forward. Keep looking for new ways to reach the lost. Keep expanding mechanisms for better community. Keep giving us new ideas that we can use or even improve. Keep pumping out positive, Christ-inspired posts like this one.

‘Cause this, this can’t be replicated by the world. This level of connection is only available through Christ.

I was there with my 18 year-old. I have to say that it was one of the coolest things I have experienced to see my son, who is normally not a real “expressive” worshipper, sitting at the computer, with his hands in the air, singing at the top of his lungs. Thanks for a great time of worship.

  27. Allen Arnn 22 September 2008 at 4:01 pm #

My 7 year old son is sitting here as I look at this. He asked if we can do that every night.

  28. Crystal 22 September 2008 at 4:23 pm #

WOW!!! WOW!!! WOW!!! I could just continue to say that but I did want to say that even though I had miss it last night we managed to see it today and I got a few pictures of my children fully engrossed in the worship. I posted them on my blog at kitten12079.wordpress.com
Their innocence blows me away thank you for being so fully committed that you can take others breath away.
