Your Fantasy Draft Worship Conference

Posted on 26. Oct, 2008 by loswhit in Music, Worship Leading

If you could only go to one worship conference…
And they had the perfect lineup of speakers, and worship leaders…

Who would be speaking and who would be leading worship?
And why…

Well my perfect line up is far from perfect.

    Worship conference speakers with bias:

Louie Giglio – local talent, Worship is a way of life
    Darlene Zschech – Hillsong Church
Josepth Prince – a small church down under, excellent challenger
Matt Redman – Godfather of Modern Worship(dive into speaking instead of worship leading)
Mike Pilavachi – Soul Survivor Founder

    Worship Leaders:

Chris Tomlin – biggest name in CCM right now
Yale Kim – LA westcoast talent
Hillsong United – all star cast of awesome worship songs

I think to have a dream worship conference we have to think outside our small Buckhead/North Point talent base. My list of worship leaders might be lacking, but I think my list of dream speakers is not.

    Let’s see:

    Crowder
    Future of Forestery
    Starfield
    Phil Wickham
    Leeland
    Brooke Fraser
    United
If he were alive, Keith Green…who doesn’t love a white man with a fro?

    As far as speakers go…hmm

My boss is always good, Craig Groeschel
    Andy Stanley
    How bout some Perry Noble
git you a little Bishop TD Jakes
last but not least…old videos of E.V. Hill

That would make for a FANtastic lineup…

    You can’t argue that..

    Guys/gals that are

Wow, there are some awesome people leading around us. Thanks for making us think, Carlos.

Some of those who would lead worship and talk about the heart of it) at this conference: Carlos Whitaker (I’m not brown nosing), Aaron Keys, Steve Fee, Derrick Henslee, Rick Muchow, Steven Curtis Chapman (sharing his testimony), and Chris Tomlin.

Inspiring us could be some of these: Frances Chan on Passion, Craig Groeschel on Vision and Rick Warren on Overflow

    celebrity christianity at its finest.

  20. Shaun King 27 October 2008 at 6:33 am #

The question for me would be who is this conference attempting to reach and what does it hope to accomplish with those that it reaches.

The conference lineups that I am reading above are great Catalyst lineups that I have seen before. This is a compliment to Catalyst.

However, if we are going to reach who Catalyst isn’t reaching, aren’t we going to have to do what Catalyst isn’t doing?

  21. Lyndsey Ham 27 October 2008 at 6:38 am #

  22. Phillystax 27 October 2008 at 7:02 am #

I’m with @ShaunKing. If we’re shooting for the Catalyst/Passion-going crowd then the above will work just fine.

If we’re going for the other side of the coin here is my suggestion:

    Open up with:
    The Killers
    Red Hot Chili Peppers
    Aerosmith.

Then have Switchfoot bring it around to the right direction.

Have Gabe Lyons(unChristian author) and Donald Miller(Blue Like Jazz) speak about….whatever.

Then have Crowder finish out the night because I think that he’s a little underestimated in the secular world.

I would go to that festival. At very least it would be interesting.

  23. Phillystax 27 October 2008 at 7:03 am #

After reading my own comment I’m now laughing at myself.
    I am an idiot.

Chris Martin, Kanye West, Oprah & Barrack Obama know more about leading people in worship than anyone listed so far.

Worship: Good musicians who love Jesus, love to worship, and sing in a key that is easy for me to sing along with (with mostly hymns done acoustically)

I enjoyed Derrick’s shout-out to Keith Green. That guy was intense. It’s fun to wonder what he was like as a worship leader.

I find ironic the contrasting theologies within single comments here…i.e. John Piper and Rob Bell…that is like a Obama-Palin ticket… Don’t you feel just a bit conflicted listening to both?

i’m not sure these are worship “genre” people, but can Shane & Shane and Bethany Dillon count? Maybe they could be special music. For some reason they just lead me right into the presence of God… i suppose you’d call that annointing. :) there’s just something about the way they speak about the Lord and refer to the Word that’s different. a unique kind of reverence, i guess.

p.s. the shane & shane christmas CD = money

    Here’s my ideal worship conference:

Main Speakers and Topics (in order)
    —————————–

Tim Keller (Gospel-Centered Worship) – You have to start a worship conference with a vision of the reason we worship. Keller has one of the most comprehensive grasps of the Gospel out of any speaker that I can think of.

Bob Kauflin (Ecclesiology of Worship)- No-brainer. Genius when it comes to worship in a church setting. Surprised he hasn’t been mentioned. Sovereign grace music.

Louie Giglio (The Worship/Culture Collision) – Another worship no-brainer. Straddles the line between upcoming culture and Christ-centered worship.

John Piper (Worship as Lifestyle) – Where missiology/ecclesiology/theology/doxology collide. Who’s better at a God-entranced worldview than Piper? He would also end with a huge vision of God…which is slightly important at a worship conference :)

Worship Leaders (in no particular order)
    —————————————-

    Aaron Keyes
    Charlie Hall
    David Crowder
    Sovereign Grace
**don’t know any, but find a ‘traditional’ hymnist**
    Shane and Shane

    Pre-Conference Breakout Sessions (for kicks)
    ——————————————–

Tim Smith (Leading multiple bands/indie rock worship) – From Mars Hill Church.

Stuart Townend and Tim Hughes (Songwriting) – Obviously.

Panel of Conference Worship Leaders (open-ended)

    Erwin McManus (Creativity in worship)

    It’s a start. :)

I’d love to hear from Andy Crouch.
I’d love to hear from worship leaders from Sojourn Church in Louisville, KY.

I’d love to be led in worship by Christy Nockels, Vicky Beeching, Matt Redman, Paul Baloche, plus also a team of people who create interactive worship experiences (not based on singing).

  48. Chris 29 October 2008 at 6:38 am #

Your all leaving out one of the greatest worship leaders, Lee McDerment from Newspring Community Church. He is probably one of the best worship leaders ever…

  49. Lana 29 October 2008 at 10:47 pm #

Leading — Kim Walker, because I think leading worship is so much more than just singing songs — I love her spontaneous flow that isn’t a “show” but has you singing your own song to the Lord, too….

  50. Michael McGough 30 October 2008 at 11:25 am #

    other than those listed already:
    Worship Leader
    Travis Cottrell

    Speakers
    Rick & Bubba

I’ve often been told that I’m different (not always in a good way either). Because of this my fantasy draft worship conference list is also very different.
    So here goes.

    Worship Leaders:
    Stephen Cole (From LifeChurch.tv)
Eddie James w/ the River of Life Choir (From Phoenix)
    Kutless
    Kirk Franklin

    Speakers:
    Craig Groeschel (LifeChurch.tv Sr. Pastor)
Chris Athey (Chaplain for Texas State corrections in Huntsville Texas)
Perry Nobel (Sr. Pastor of Newspring Church)
Brian Pace (Sr. Pastor of the River of Life Tabernacle in Phoenix AZ)
Jack Zimmerman (Senior Rabbi of Beth Simchat HaMaschiach in Phoenix AZ)

  52. Bo 15 December 2008 at 7:48 pm #

The speakers would be: Mark Rutland – I think he is one of the most gifted Bible teachers I have ever heard. & Bill Johnson – He is leading a congregation of people hungry to see God move in amazing ways as part of their daily life. And God is doing it. I want an impartation of that.

Worship leader: Joel Houston – I don't think I have every seen someone lead with more humility, passion, and authority as he does. I went to a conference in which he spoke/taught after worship and it was like worship never stopped. His heart still seemed to be totally focused on receiving instruction from the Holy Spirit. He is truly annointed.
