Over or Under

That is the age old question…
Which way does the toilet paper fall.
So I got to thinking…
Ours does not fall either way.
It is usually sitting on top of the back of the toilet.
It never stays on the toilet paper holder thing!

Ours usually ends up sitting on the tank, but when it is on the roller I make sure it goes OVER!

  2. Nathan Ayres 29 November 2008 at 10:46 pm #

I have to have it OVER. I change it if my wife puts it on wrong.

  3. Chris Meirose 29 November 2008 at 10:50 pm #

Over. All under people should be throat punched.

    :-)

  4. Phillystax 29 November 2008 at 10:52 pm #

Yeah, it NEEDS to go OVER if it's on the roller. Under is just impractical. You can't see where the end unless it hangs down too far. If it's over then it can just lay on top.

Oh, and mine also ends up on the tank though.

  5. k-strat 29 November 2008 at 10:56 pm #

This is really funny.. Chris and I had a conversation about this a couple weeks ago. I say over for sure!

  6. amystorms 29 November 2008 at 10:59 pm #

I am opinionated about so many things, and this is one of them. Over. Under drives me crazy. (So does the back of the toilet, actually, but that's okay.)

  7. brewster 29 November 2008 at 11:12 pm #

dude. perfect post for today. i fight to keep mine on the roll, just cuz i got it like that. im down for over or under as long as it is hanging in the case of emergency.

  8. Amanda 29 November 2008 at 11:14 pm #

    ummmmm
    UNDER.
    absolutely.
    UNDER.

  9. tammy 29 November 2008 at 11:14 pm #

Definitely over. And never on the back of the toilet. The rule: if you use the last piece, you must replace the roll.
And, if you've noticed, most nice hotels have the paper going over the roll. That way they can fold it nicely for you and put a little sticker on it. Take cues from hotels. Under is ridiculous.

  10. Molly_Mac 29 November 2008 at 11:16 pm #

B.K. (before kids) over…just like in a hotel…now, as long as it makes it on the holder…I am happy. Under does work better for the one hand tear, I have discovered.

  11. heatherltrotter 29 November 2008 at 11:18 pm #

OVER!!! Under is just wrong! LOL I have a hard time going to someone's house and using the toilet paper under…

  12. Jenni Clayville 29 November 2008 at 11:19 pm #

    over

  13. Clay 29 November 2008 at 11:19 pm #

Actually neither–and not on the back of the toilet either. It sits on its end across an empty cardboard roll still on the stick!

  14. sully_michael 29 November 2008 at 11:23 pm #

    OVER is the only way.

If it’s under one tug can ruin your day. Then you spend all day trying to put it all back on the roll. OVER all the way.

  15. Travis Williams 29 November 2008 at 11:30 pm #

I'm very pleased to see the overwhelming majority being on the side of the OVER. My wife doesn't even think about it when she puts it on the roller, and it usually ends up under. That means that I have to switch to over before I can finish my business. I just don't like under because it's easier for it to unroll and get all over the ground. And nobody wants to wipe with toilet paper that's touched the ground around the toilet. At least I don't.

  16. Crystal 29 November 2008 at 11:38 pm #

I don't think we notice which direction the the tp rolls. Mostly it's on the back of the toilet and then I put it on holder.

  17. Leah 29 November 2008 at 11:46 pm #

I honestly cannot think of which way I put it on however, I always put it on the roll. After reading everyone's comments I have now decided that I will put it on to pull over for the sake of the majority. Thank you.

  18. Deanna 29 November 2008 at 11:49 pm #

definetly over……when its on the holder

  19. Rachel 29 November 2008 at 11:53 pm #

    Absolutely, positively OVER!

    No question – over

  22. gabrielsbrain 30 November 2008 at 12:09 am #

    i totally didn't know there was a difference! I guess I was wrong…

  23. Matt Bunk 30 November 2008 at 12:18 am #

Has to be over the top.

  24. Brian 30 November 2008 at 12:24 am #

    I use a towel………

  25. Richard 30 November 2008 at 12:32 am #

I've heard that under is better if you have cats.

  26. Greg 30 November 2008 at 1:26 am #

under… it keeps the cat from unrolling the whole durn thing!

  27. bryanallain 30 November 2008 at 1:55 am #

    OVER!!! always OVER!!!

  28. Steve Murphy 30 November 2008 at 1:55 am #

My wife says it has to go OVER… so you can see the pattern. (It has a pattern?)… I say who cares, just as long as there's enough there so you can finish the job!

  29. smdotr 30 November 2008 at 2:39 am #

Over when it is on the roller. But usually on the back of the tank.

  30. Keith Barger 30 November 2008 at 2:45 am #

Sometimes the hotel industry does know best. Over.

  31. Tyler (Man of Depravity) 30 November 2008 at 2:54 am #

    over

  32. Reese 30 November 2008 at 3:09 am #

    Over!

  33. April 30 November 2008 at 3:14 am #

    definitely the over diagram.

  34. Ashley 30 November 2008 at 3:44 am #

    Over, of course.
What's funny is I just asked my husband of 9 1/2 years his preference.
    He said UNDER.
All these years and I never knew…

  35. Adrian 30 November 2008 at 3:46 am #

    OVER!

    always.

  36. Annalise 30 November 2008 at 4:14 am #

    Always, ALWAYS over.
Ours ends up on the counter a lot too.
Whenever me or my sister opens a new roll we're too lazy to put it on the holder thingy.

  37. Father Muskrat 30 November 2008 at 4:18 am #

    Over. I must be over.

  38. tonysteward 30 November 2008 at 4:27 am #

We have a french toliet that just sprays me clean on the undercarriage when I am done, so I don't worry about it any more.

    (kidding, “over” of course)

  39. Lisa @ put-it-on-the-list 30 November 2008 at 4:45 am #

I've always been an “over” girl. Raised by an “over” mama. Is that genetic, d'you suppose?

  40. Jason 30 November 2008 at 4:48 am #

i have never, ever in my life even asked myself that question. i have no idea! but there's a funnier, even more awkward question that i was asked the other day…and it was the funniest conversation i'd ever had…

    fold or wad?

  41. worshipcity 30 November 2008 at 5:05 am #

Holy crap Los you hit my greatest pet peeve. It is ALWAYS over! I'm so bad that if I'm in YOUR bathroom and you have it falling the wrong direction…I fix it…yup. Even if I'm in there just washing my hands and I happen to spot it. I can't let it be :(
    Always over!

  42. Rhi 30 November 2008 at 5:31 am #

    over. always.

  43. Terrace Crawford 30 November 2008 at 5:44 am #

If you have young children or a cat, then under is the way. When they grow up its time to switch to over.

  45. aubreysanchez 30 November 2008 at 6:51 am #

This post is reassuring! I think I'm ghetto every time I go to the bathroom b/c our tp roller has been broken for like 3 months. Now I can potty and feel good about myself. Thank you Carlos!

  46. barnettblend 30 November 2008 at 8:33 am #

I never pay attention .. It's toilet paper.. :) I just put it on the holder – I don't pay attention to the way it falls. Paul doesn't care either – as long as there is toilet paper we're happy .

  47. supersimbo 30 November 2008 at 10:16 am #

toilet roll holder broken, sits on the back of the toilet!

it was on the floor once and i stretched to life it from a sitting position & wrecked my back haha how i managed to wipe and get outta there without needing my wife to put my trousers back on is a miracle!

  48. Will 30 November 2008 at 11:25 am #

Is this really a debate? Over is the only way to go.

  49. ashleysongbird 30 November 2008 at 1:03 pm #

My husband hates for it to be on the roll. My mom is under and my sister is over. They fight about the reasons why it should be that way and I think to myself (does it even matter). Before this fight, I never paid attention. Now, I go by my mother's rule of thumb that the toilet paper should come from under in hopes that she will like me best! :)

  50. Ron Tuffin 30 November 2008 at 1:19 pm #

Like the one on the right of the picture above (under). Out “toilet paper holder thing” is on the wall behind and to the left as you sit. So this works well as a one handed tear, because you can anchor the role with your fore-arm and tear with your hand. I tired it he other way and i just does not work.

  51. connormcc 30 November 2008 at 2:17 pm #

when the toilet roll is on the holder its definitely an over… but more often than not its sitting on the windowsill…

  52. connormcc 30 November 2008 at 2:18 pm #

when the toilet roll is on the holder its definitely an over… but more often than not its sitting on the windowsill…

  53. DiAmOnD hawk 30 November 2008 at 2:43 pm #

    UNDER!!!
my mom always changes it.. but I say… who determined “over” was the right way…

  54. Annie B (Kyoodled) 30 November 2008 at 3:20 pm #

Under. It's easier to tear that way.

Unless the cat has shredded it, pulled it off the roller, and it's rolling around the floor.

  55. jtcosby 30 November 2008 at 4:34 pm #

I bought this really cool gadget thing at Target that hooks onto the tank on the back of the toilet and holds at least 2 rolls of toilet paper. I have one in each bathroom thus removing the worry of over or under ;)

  56. leoschmidt08 30 November 2008 at 5:18 pm #

I learned the hard way: over. Of course, right now ours is like yours: sitting on the back of the toilet so our recently-potty-trained” toddler will not just unroll the whole amount of toilet paper. :)

  57. carie 30 November 2008 at 8:32 pm #

I'm way too OCD to allow it to hang under. It HAS to be over!! =)

  58. Brenda 30 November 2008 at 10:22 pm #

    Over

  59. KO 30 November 2008 at 10:44 pm #

Just as long as it's THERE when you need it! It doesn't matter to me how it rips or rolls. I just hate getting there and others in the house (who shall remain nameless!) have not replaced it…..

  60. MickeyG 1 December 2008 at 12:50 am #

    top

  61. larry Boatright 1 December 2008 at 4:27 am #

yes, ours does too- on the back of the toilet, right next to the manwipes :)

  62. michaelmanasseh 1 December 2008 at 3:15 pm #

I just jump in the shower.

But the TP usually ends up on the back of the toilet, or on the counter.

  63. Cristy 1 December 2008 at 6:19 pm #

    under. always.

  64. tracy 2 December 2008 at 1:41 am #

UNDERRRRRRR!! the only way! The right way!

  65. Jonathan 2 December 2008 at 3:25 pm #

My mother always taught me over because women have shorter arms than men…

  66. Naz 11 December 2008 at 2:48 am #

Over, simply so I don't have to lean forward that extra 3 inches
