Set Tear Down In 2 Minutes

Set Tear Down @ Buckhead Church from Carlos Whittaker on Vimeo.

I have an amazing production staff.
Jared Roman is my staging and scenic director and tonight was the beginning of a LOOOONG week for him converting the stage into an idea I had in the back of me head.
So after being at church this morning at 6 am I told Heather I was going back tonight at 7 to help Jared tear down the old set.
Crespo, Jared, Amy, Mark, and I went after it and finished it off.
I love my team and can’t wait to see “Christmas in the City” begin to take shape this week at Buckhead Church.

What kind of look and feel is your church going after this holiday season?

We are keeping it simple this year. A little low fog and some lighting effects for the Christmas Eve service and that's it. Makes my job less stressful on the holidays. YAY!!

We're going “Retro Christmas” this year. Red shag 70's carpet. Plastic wreaths on the wall. Big honkin' old wood pulpit. Lots of dark brown wood everywhere.

Wait, we have that look and feel (minus the wreaths) every week. Crap. Nevermind.

Our Christmas Series is called Nativity: A Mural of Hope . . . We are building a set that is basically a blank canvas (a big wall) that will be shaped like a rock out cropping. Over the next 4 services including Christmas eve the blank wall will become the rock formation with a cave/stable with the Nativity scene painted on it. The big reveal will be some awesome black light paint I found that is transparent in normal light. We will paint something “uber” cool with it fo the big reveal on Christmas Eve. So stoked watching this team literally build the set in front of my eyes . . .

Most always pretty simple… lots of back lighting. Right now, we have lots of bulbs hanging from stage and ceiling.

Super fun. Totally different element. I think there are about 60 moving lights suspended from the ceiling right now with 4 DL3s. 250,000 lights on the trees. Bringing some modern to the traditional.

We’re actually very excited about our Christmas set. Called “Christmas Crescendo”.
A visual juxtaposition of the simplicity of Jesus’ birth vs. what it has become in our society.
