I wonder if this pick will ever break or if Fender will sue for lameness?

Awesome pick! I found this site the other day, have you heard of it? http://www.claytoncustom.com/

ha. i had one of those given to me for christmas. nice. reminds me of the question of what happens when a girl is "dating jesus"…..who breaks up with who?

Yeah, in recent years (the last two to be exact), I've found myself drifting from pop-christian culture. I've actually developed a hatred for it. I don't listen to the local christian radio, or wear christian tshirts. I don't buy use or own things that are branded "christian" or "jesus" (unless you count my bible)…and these things really disgust me. It's really made it hard to be at the church where I'm the "youth and worship" pastor. Everyone there owns an abundance of crap like that. I try not to let it bother me, but I'm not successful.

If you're not living what you're wearing outwardly, what's the point? I also don't listen to contemporary Christian music, as it tends to be a tad bit on the lame side. Good luck to you—don't let your faith waiver in the face of mass hypocracy.

did you actually order that in the royal purple color or is that just the way it was made…. love it, have you have more than just one when that one breaks in the middle of your set some day

    Mandolin or Baritone Guitar?

  7. loswhit 18 January 2009 at 11:53 pm #

    Um. That is not mine.
I wonder if the pick maker will get sued for suckiness

  8. Dustin 19 January 2009 at 12:01 am #

Being a musician, I get people coming up to me talking about stuff like this and saying, "I saw this thing and it reminded me of you and I almost bought it for you!" And I laugh it off and think to myself, "I'm really glad you didn't."

  9. Elgin 19 January 2009 at 1:23 am #

"Pick Jesus"? How about a pick that says "Pick your nose!" or "Pick that wedgie!" ??

  10. Dave © 19 January 2009 at 1:50 am #

I once thought that all Christian music sucked (I know, I know. What is Christian music anyway?). Although I was a Christian, I rarely listened to it until my younger brother challenged me, essentially saying that most of what we like or don't like are acquired tastes (Beer anyone? Tell me the first time you had it you actually liked it!). So I started listening to more and more Christian music and, over time, I could not deny that my mood and attitude improved a little bit and a little bit more over time.

Is this a good pick? A terrible pick? The worst pick ever? Personally, I don't know the first thing about picks to know. But I kinda wonder if we each see what we want to see.

Someones trying to make a buck. Wouldn't work out very well for them if someone sued them for suckiness…
It would really suck if your church demanded that you use it for sunday services,, or people made a big deal about it.. that would suck.

  12. David 19 January 2009 at 3:35 am #

hey…I found a pic just like this at my friend's house today.

  13. Andra 19 January 2009 at 3:47 am #

I had a pick like that and I dropped it down a vent. Then I bought another one and the words came off because I held it too much and I guess my hand sweat made it come off. Either way, the pick isn't invincible.

I love everyone here… make sure you know that before you read the next sentence :) I actually like the pick, and I think there is a certain amount of snobbery that we can fall prey to in our aim to be relevant. I see it on here a lot. I too fall prey to it on occasion. I pray that we don't "beat up the bride" (the church and Christians – though sometimes ignorantly cheesy – fall under that label "bride") just to look cool and accessible to the rest of the world. The Church is the "The Apple of His Eye" and she needs to be well spoken of and honored… I wouldn't appreciate if people bashed my wife with talk of how uncool or lame she is… I would tell you to shut your face if you said that kind of thing to her. Let's use words about the Church that edify her and challenge her in love…As Marty Sampson of Hillsong has penned it, "Let now Your Church// shine as the Bride// that You saw in Your heart//as You offered up Your life…."
God loves His Ragamuffin Bride! :)

    • loswhit 19 January 2009 at 4:28 am #

      Totally agree.
But it still is HORRIBLE marketing.

      • bleedworship 19 January 2009 at 4:48 am #

I'll second that emotion my friend … from a purely strategic standpoint it's not entirely helpful :)
All things are lawful but not all are expedient, right?
Thanks for the blog and for using your influence to create a place where people can be real and grow in God. Much love…

      • Dave © 31 January 2009 at 12:00 pm #

I think many would argue that a life of servant hood was a pretty poor marketing plan too.

Am I the only one seeing Human3rror’s mugshot as Los’ gravatar? I see it on my Blackberry ever since the switch to IntenseDebate. Now I’m seeing it via Firefox too…

Los’, you better watch that John guy. Soon enough, he’ll have taken over your whole persona.

Maybe you all think that this pick is cheesy or should be "sued for lameness"… but, as crazy as this may sound, this pick led me to accept Christ into my life. That sounds ridiculous, and obviously there were many other influences… but maybe it's not as bad as everyone seems to think.

Know what the sad thing is? I had a student of mine give me this Sunday. She's in 6th grade and thought it was awesome. I think my knee jerk reaction crushed her heart…ah well…onto damage control

  18. Heidi Reed 31 January 2009 at 12:00 pm #

Hi Los. This is unrelated, but wanted to report that I had a healthy and gorgeous baby boy on Tuesday of last week. He's awesome and wonderful and everything fantastic. God has truly blessed me. Please check out my blog when you have time to see him and read more details of our experience. As always, thank you so very much for your prayers!!

  20. SNOB 31 January 2009 at 12:00 pm #

Jesus Junk. Just like painting his name on a rock and selling it for $9.98 at the Christian Bookstore. But there are always those who will call it a "Witnessing tool"

test mcomment. does anyone else have difficulties entering text into the comments box on this sight?….typing blind and sometimes gibberish text.

  24. Dave © 31 January 2009 at 12:00 pm #

Yep. Just posted a comment and it's gone like yesterday…

  25. Elgin 31 January 2009 at 12:00 pm #

here's my thing. if some christian company wants to start making christian "pick jesus" picks or whatever, fine. But it better be the BEST DANG pick I've ever used! I use Snarling Dog picks, and i have never found one better. a student showed me one of these pick jesus picks, and it was crap. way too thick…cheaply made. If we're going to do something for God, it better be the best we can do!

  26. Dave © 31 January 2009 at 12:00 pm #

Just out of curiosity…which was the sad part? That she gave one to you? That she thought it was awesome? Or that you crushed her heart?

  27. Ernest 31 January 2009 at 12:00 pm #

Nice! Don't you love the way "Christian" stuff tends to be just cheap copies of the secular? Can't we just be original for once and drop all of the cheesy knock-offs? I do love me a GODWEISER shirt!

  28. Kyle 31 January 2009 at 12:00 pm #

I know none of you know me, but I am a youth pastor in St. Louis, MO and I have read this blog for about 9 months now and enjoy the authentic community and know some of you will honestly pray for us. My wife is 11 weeks pregnant and we found out yesterday that the baby's heart beat is only 80 bpm instead of 140 and it is at 9 wks in growth instead 11 wks. They are calling it a threatened miscarriage and that the baby probably wont make it…I am asking that you would pray for us, strength for my wife and for the Creator of the Universe to work a miracle.

  29. bleedworship 31 January 2009 at 12:00 pm #

Go Snarling Dog! I love how they say, "brain" on them… Pick your Brain… clever. I will not be switching picks anytime soon either

  30. bleedworship 31 January 2009 at 12:00 pm #

Hi Kyle… Just want you to know I and my wife are standing in agreement for you and your wife. I would also like to email you an mp3 that greatly encouraged us in our faith after we had 2 back to back miscarriages last year. It really got us strengthened to stand our ground and believe God – if you want it email me cjohnson@eccc.us. Our prayers are with you – that God's "Super" + your "Natural" will result in Supernatural Childbirth… Grace and Peace to you

  31. bleedworship 31 January 2009 at 12:00 pm #

Well said, Dave… that's the clincher statement right there…

  32. Dave 4 June 2009 at 12:06 pm #

To put it in perspective, maybe picks, coffee mugs, t-shirts, and whatever bric-a-brac one thinks of could be viewed as cheesy imitations of secular bric-a-brac. Or they could be opportunities to make statements about what is important to us. A guitar pick which says "Pick Jesus" instead of the "Fender" logo. Cheesy or simply the guitarist making a subtle statement that Jesus is more important than some guitar maker?
Remember, God looks at the heart and motives behind the act.
