Keep Shooting…

“I have missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I have lost almost 300 games. On 26 occasions I have been entrusted to take the game winning shot . . . and missed. And I have failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why . . . I succeed.”
Michael Jordan

Quit complaining and keep shooting.

Los, you inspired an extra blog post out of me tonight. Thought I'd share the quote that got me going.
“Keep on beginning and failing. Each time you fail, start all over again, and you will grow stronger until you have accomplished a purpose – not the one you began with perhaps, but one you'll be glad to remember.”
      - Anne Sullivan
Sometimes our goal is different than God's purpose for us trying and it is important not just to keep shooting but to see how we have grown, how we have been made strong, how he may have prepared us for something else. I'll throw up a link tomorrow.

i played basketball for a few seasons. my fail rate is much lower than MJ's. does that make me more successful than MJ at basketball? should i try and take him 1-on-1?

    bring it!

MJ also got cut from his high school basketball team. There have been doors in my life that appear to be closed but I knew deep down that God wanted me to keep pursuing and not give up.

By the way, who is that pic of? MJ is not #20 and isn't cover in tats.

Yo Los, GREAT QUOTE!!! To answer bartondamer's question, that is MJ and the pic was taken during this HUGE campaign for his 20 year "reign on the sneaker kingdom." my wife got me the book for Christmas that had tons of photos (including the one w/ MJ tatted-up)! of course, the tatts aren't real but the book was AWESOME!!!

What does not kill you makes you stronger.(not stranger)

And like the guy pushing against the rock with all his might because the Lord told him but it did not budge …

    I don't shoot hoops – I shoot digital video

but MJ's quote holds true in many of the aspects I struggle and fail in.

    nice one

Michael Jordan is one fine looking man. Can I say that on here? The quote is wonderful, and I'll be sharing it with my sons.

Lord, Change My Attitude – Before It's Too Late

We just finished the part about replacing a complaining attitude with an attitude of gratitude.
So relevant! Shared with all of them!!

I had this poster (or one he had done very similar) above my bed as a kid… took me back… ahhh… nostalgic…

Shouldn't the same be said for our economy? The question I ask is if we pass "stimulus" packages, and bailout banks and industries, are we preventing short run failure that is needed for us to ultimately succeed?

Sorry for the political flavor, it's just what I've been thinking about lately… :|

He isn't well liked in our home.. He refused to give our boy, who was only 8 at the time, an autograph cause he was late for a golf match. We happen to be at the same hotel as him and our sweet 8 year old ran up with aball for him to sign. he was SOOOOO rude! Just my two cents.

When I saw the pic and the title of this post, I really thought it was going to be about photography. I wonder what that says about me.

I needed to read this today. I feel like a complete failure with my church. I know I just need to take another shot.

Me too as a worship leader. Sometimes, I feel like the Devil is trying to make me write myself off as a mediocre to below average musician that shouldn't lead others. With leading youth, it gets harder sometimes with the words they say.

But I've been working with a vocal coach for a year now and learning/re-learning guitar for almost 2 years. My close friends say I'm improving. I'm not giving up in leading people to worship the GOD who deserves all the glory and has carried me this far.

  26. Jonathanj 11 February 2009 at 11:51 pm #

Perspective is important! Hey, is there somewhere I can hear your worship band online?

I grew up as a huge fan of MJ. I remember when he retired. No, not that time… or that one either… I'm talking about the FIRST time…

  28. SCBubba 12 February 2009 at 3:04 am #

Thanks for posting this quote. Puts things in perspective. Also makes me think of one of Thomas Edison's quotes "Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work."

Edison and MJ are saying that you can't just be good/talented/skilled/gifted. You have to go out there and DO something. It's often hard and not everything makes the highlight reels at your retirement party.

  29. Jim 12 February 2009 at 3:20 am #

I miss MJ. I like Bobby Knight's quote:"Most people have the will to win, few have the will to prepare to win."

  30. Aaron 15 February 2009 at 4:50 pm #

+1 for the hall of fame. Good job, MJ.
