Yes I am having small nervous ticks.
So in the absence of my brain…I always like to use yours.

    HOW GREAT IS OUR GOD!!!

    • JonWesley 5 February 2009 at 7:46 pm #

Oh, come on!! Its only been in the CCLI Top Ten since Jesus ascended! Are you sure? (note: had to clean desk from all the dripping sarcasm, sorry!)

  2. ryan guard 5 February 2009 at 7:33 pm #

the new "Marvelous Light" version… and I'd be happy if we laid "Everlasting God" to rest, only because I can't stand saying "Our strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord, as we wait upon the Lord, as we wait upon the Lord" that fast and that many times!!! It's horribly cheesy (in my opinion)

    • Kyle Reed 5 February 2009 at 7:42 pm #

I am right there with you on this one. It can only go so fast, and after a while you are not even saying the words anymore.

  3. Clint Singleton 5 February 2009 at 7:35 pm #

All because of Jesus could use a rest…soon to be followed by Lead me to the Cross.

  4. Lynse Leanne 5 February 2009 at 7:36 pm #

For sure Happy Day! I mean really?!!? it should have been gone the first week we sang it.

  5. joe cavazos 5 February 2009 at 7:37 pm #

"You Never Let Go" Can't seem to let this one go!

    • JonWesley 5 February 2009 at 7:47 pm #

Yeah, we only use that one when the church seems on a down slope. But otherwise, it was a good run!

      • Joe Cavazos 5 February 2009 at 7:52 pm #

It's one of our HOMERUN songs, so it will probably never see fade away, people love it.

  6. Malachi 5 February 2009 at 7:38 pm #

eek. I would answer, but I think I would get myself into a bit of trouble. Especially seeing that I don't really like much of the music that is played at my church.

    Blessed be Your name

    • theneener 6 February 2009 at 12:44 am #

Ditto! We haven't sang it at the main service in awhile but it happens to rear its overplayed head in our other activities.

Mighty To Save / From The Inside Out

    • Bonnie_Irving 5 February 2009 at 9:45 pm #

Yeah, I would agree with From the Inside Out. We were doing that some Pretty Heavily for a while. Good song… But, It gets old…

  10. Brandi 5 February 2009 at 7:39 pm #

90% of them could never be sung again & it would be too soon. i'm struggling with the fact that we seem to not recognize that great worship music has been written in the past 10 years yet for some reason we sing the oldies over .. and over… and over.. and over.

guess i should have taken that into consideration when i signed on to work with teenagers at a church where the average age is 75. :)

    • Daniel 5 February 2009 at 7:45 pm #

I sympathize with Brandi, as I attended a very "older" church as a youth, and the music, money was not very conducive to making us excited about going each Sunday.

My church is actually very good about being relevant to our community. Downtown Athens is historical for it's music scene and Athens Church tends to stay on top of the latest trends. It's very very refreshing.

  11. Leann 5 February 2009 at 7:40 pm #

"I Will Celebrate"…bet you haven't heard it. We sing it EVERY Sunday during the "turn around and greet your neighbor" session. Ugh. And my music minister has thing thing where he repeats the last few lines of a song over and over, and you think it's finished, and then we go into the last verse AGAIN but a capella. Makes it hard to worship or maybe I'm just a loser.

  12. Kyle Reed 5 February 2009 at 7:41 pm #

Any version of Marvelous light, unless Charlie Hall is up there singing it, I don't want to hear it.
Healer, can't get past the story or lack there of.

  13. Dustin 5 February 2009 at 7:43 pm #

My church has an array of music on Sundays depending on who's leading. It ranges anywhere from hymns, to folk guitar sounding stuff, to Paul Baloche, to Passion and Hillsong. Personally that stuff I could use a break from I don't even know the name of the songs.

    Break Free by Hillsong

  16. JonWesley 5 February 2009 at 7:48 pm #

What's really scary is that as the one planning worship, we are inundated by new songs all the time! I wish I could do mostly new every week!

    • JonWesley 5 February 2009 at 8:07 pm #

BTW- anyone else still singing "Trading My Sorrows"? I stopped that one because it got depressing to watch and lead. You know, like the words ought to be " I'm keeping my sorrows, holding on to my shame…"

      • Amanda_Sims 5 February 2009 at 8:32 pm #

My church's kids program still does that song. They seem to love it.

      • Pokinatcha 6 February 2009 at 1:31 am #

Yes, we still sing this song every once in a while.

  17. Christina 5 February 2009 at 7:48 pm #

Haha…yes "You Never Let Go"…i start to get a twilight zone moment every time we get into the chorus.

  18. Aaron Moller 5 February 2009 at 7:50 pm #

We've been doing a long series on Nehemiah rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem and the intro is always "God of this City." It's a powerful song, but I have played it for the past 8 weeks or so and we should give it a rest by now. Every time we play I keep wanting to sing "We built this city on ROCK & ROLL!"

    • mrsDeb 6 February 2009 at 3:25 am #

Lol, I totally feel you on the Jefferson Starship distraction during this song. I wasn't too keen on this song the first time we sang it… and is hasn't grown on me at all :(

  19. blair_andress 5 February 2009 at 7:51 pm #

If I never hear "Friend of God" again, it will be too soon. And, Amanda, I love ya… but we need more Tomlin at our church. To me, that stuff never gets old… but hearing "I am a friend of God…." makes me die a little inside.

    • Amanda_Sims 5 February 2009 at 8:06 pm #

Yeah, I agree with Friend of God. As far as the Tomlin stuff, a steady diet of that when there's SO MUCH MORE out there – may as well play the same 5 chords over and over every Sunday.

    • Bonnie_Irving 5 February 2009 at 9:48 pm #

OH there is another one that needs rest!..LOL I was sitting here trying to think of Songs That my Church does that i think that about.. and i couldnt, But as i scroll thru the comments.. I am seeing a BUNCH!

'beautiful one' could stand a break after like 5 year of beating it to death.

  24. - Sarah :-) 5 February 2009 at 7:58 pm #

I think we're lucky – our Wprship Pastor does a great job of mixing stuff up – introducing new songs, bringing back some older stuff, even throwing in some hymns. I don't think I'm tired of any particular song, really. There are some I wish we'd do more often!

    • adam_herod 5 February 2009 at 8:18 pm #

anyone else wish they were Sarah's worship pastor? :-) I've only been at the new place 5 weeks, so we're floating along well for now, but they definitely need to give 'Be the Center" & "Your Grace is Enough" a breather based on the stories I've been told

      • Keith Barger 5 February 2009 at 10:42 pm #

Hey! That must be me. I'm sure our people never get tired of the songs I pick. And I think there's a Sarah that goes here…

        • - Sarah :-) 6 February 2009 at 3:15 am #

Sorry Keith! And after reading everyone else's comments, I was starting to think that maybe I was the only one happy with the mix at our church. So I asked around, and apparently everyone pretty much feels the same way. Man – I guess we're pretty lucky!

    • Ron_Tuffin 6 February 2009 at 10:04 am #

Same thing at our church. Although every now and then something comes up. I used to run the Youth environment and I banned singing "You are Holy" (you know the one with where the guys sing one part and the girls another). The bunch of us just sounded out of breath trying to get it right that there was no room for worship (great song we just could not do it). I just told the worship leaders – Never again!

  25. JonWesley 5 February 2009 at 8:05 pm #

Oh, yeah! Without a doubt! People really grab on to those words. Its fun to watch!

  26. Kyle 5 February 2009 at 8:06 pm #

I can't help but laugh (or cry) as I read the suggested songs to cut…most of our church hasn't even heard of them. That should fill you in on what kind of stuff we're accustomed to around here…

  27. joshuarclare 5 February 2009 at 8:08 pm #

this is such a great question! I use planning center online (thanks chris briley) so after reading these comments I pulled up the last 4 months of services in the matrix and looked and the tunes we've done and asked our staff the same question, what songs need a break? How Great is Our God was winner/loser.
Everlasting God is a great tune by Brenton Brown, but not even close to his best. Our church loves Hosanna- (praise is rising) and Our God Saves. check them out. Your congregation will thank you.

  28. michael 5 February 2009 at 8:11 pm #

I really like our song selection.. no complaints..

The beauty of these answers is that I have found some great songs that you may be tired of but we have not done is a LONG time. Gonna do your tired songs…

  32. denise 5 February 2009 at 8:46 pm #

o happy day and all because of Jesus. that o happy day song is just dumb.

    • Keith Tackel 12 February 2009 at 3:06 pm #

We don't do it on Sunday mornings that much anymore but we play for youth camps/events and the kids/students love that song. If it was not for seeing the kids engage I might be tired of it also.

  33. Trevor DeVage 5 February 2009 at 8:53 pm #

These always make me laugh…I wonder if Jesus ever gets tired of them. By the way…that was not meant out of sarcasm or rebellion….just made me actually laugh out loud thinking about that…

    • ianyab 6 February 2009 at 3:04 pm #

In the very deepest part of my soul I know that God loves and welcomes all praise given from a sincere heart; however, in every other part of me and my soul, I kind of like picturing Jesus in heaven listening in on some of our worship music and screaming "You're doing that one AGAIN!?!?! It's not even good music!"

  34. shannon 5 February 2009 at 8:56 pm #

God of this city. love the song. just not every sunday or every other sunday.

  35. garydurbin 5 February 2009 at 8:58 pm #

Every song needs a break sometimes. No song is so good that it can't be over done.
Seems to be a lot churches running Hillsong United into the ground right now. They're the new Tomlin.

    • Bonnie_Irving 5 February 2009 at 10:05 pm #

I think that My Church does a Pretty good job of Rotating the songs….. there are SOME that do need a break though…I have heard 2 songs on the radio yesterday as a matter of fact.. and then realized they were song that have just reciently been done. so, they must be doing a Good Job , but then I am kinda partial to my Worship department because the way they did them sounded Alot Better to me. I don't know if that is Because i hadn't heard them before they played them or not.

  36. tweena 5 February 2009 at 9:12 pm #

It's amazing how people seem to run with joy at the negative posts…makes me wonder if those same people complain constantly about how sucky their life is (we all know these folks and roll our eyes when they start the gripe)…if you've been married nine times, hey maybe it's you.

  37. Trevor DeVage 5 February 2009 at 9:13 pm #

    ahahahahahahahahaha….I so agree…that is hilarious…

    • Rachel 5 February 2009 at 9:29 pm #

Posts like these also seem to bring out the worst in some people…"Oh no! Singing about God's power and might again! God, I hate that! No! Not another song about Jesus!" Seriously…it's not about you or your likes or preferences. Just admit you don't like the tune of a song and get over it.

If you're a worship leader, you should be listening to what God wants for your congregation, not what your new fav tune is or the song that has the really cool guitar solo. Be the best at who He's called you to be.

And if you're part of a congregation that sings songs you don't like, guess what? Submit. Be humble. Worship God no matter what the tune or circumstance. If you can't praise God with a tune you don't like, how are you supposed to praise Him when things really go south?

      • Bonnie_Irving 5 February 2009 at 10:22 pm #

True! Thats all a Part of us decreasing and HIM increasing.:)

        • bricebohrer 6 February 2009 at 2:48 pm #

Life is great. Just some of the songs that stink.

  38. Julie 5 February 2009 at 9:13 pm #

"I Am Free" at least in our first service, 80% of which is 80 years of age or older. Getting them to sing "I am free to run, I am free to dance" is tough. I think they're afraid of braking a hip :-)

  39. kellen 5 February 2009 at 9:16 pm #

at my church we play all new originals every week. oh wait, no we don't. i'm tired of "take it all" by hillsong united…

    • bub 7 February 2009 at 11:36 pm #

Man, your church plays that? I've gotta make a suggestion at my church now. See, someone's old is somebody else's "I'd love to hear that!'

      • kellen 7 February 2009 at 11:42 pm #

that's awesome. i really want us to start playing "what the world will never take" (off the i heart revolution record) more. we've played it a couple of times, but i'd like to do it more!

  40. Ben 5 February 2009 at 9:18 pm #

    "Jesus Be Jesus in Me"!!!
our senior pastor closes with it every single week!!!

  41. 12gates 5 February 2009 at 9:22 pm #

I would be interested to see everyone's list of … This is the song I love to hear at church… I'll start with one of my favs Tears of the Saints – Leeland (or any song by Leeland).

  42. Nick Shoemaker 5 February 2009 at 9:42 pm #

we boot songs after they are two years old… doesn't matter how "good" they are. (period.) we go from release date. not from when we first play them. This really makes us find new and fresh stuff. (And its fun!)

  43. Rob 5 February 2009 at 9:53 pm #

    God of this City!

    • bricebohrer 6 February 2009 at 2:47 pm #

thank you, yes. Are we going to hell for being tired of this song? Maybe there could be spin off songs. God of this house, God of this streeet, this block, this state, country . . . you get the idea.

  44. Rachelle 5 February 2009 at 10:01 pm #

even though I truly love them, "Cannons" and "Beautiful" by Phil Wickham need a break.

  45. Terry Foester 5 February 2009 at 10:04 pm #

    • Pokinatcha 6 February 2009 at 1:34 am #

That's one of the songs I would choose! We are singing it this weekend & told my friend I was over this song already!

  47. David (@dg4G) 5 February 2009 at 10:42 pm #

At the end of each year, with summer down under, our team has a holiday from weekly practices. So there's nothing new for about 6 weeks. I could let this annoy me. Sometimes it does.

We rotate songs pretty quickly…rarely do they stay in our setlists for longer than 6-8 months when used on a regular basis, after that they might come back a few times a year, if at all. But we're back in learning mode again, new music is on the horizon, I am happy.

  48. Chris 5 February 2009 at 10:42 pm #

on the "songs i like" topic, is it just me, or does Control by Mute Math sound like it could be a cool worship song?

    [song] http://bit.ly/2zQHBH
    [lyrics] http://lyricwiki.org/Mute_Math:Control

p.s. Los, it was cool meeting you in Athens on Sunday :)

  49. Christopher 5 February 2009 at 10:47 pm #

I'm a little tired of Here I am to worship. Problem is our congregation is older and they only know songs that have been taught them in the last 2 years. Small pallet to paint with.

  50. Chris Sullivan 5 February 2009 at 11:02 pm #

I don't really rotate the worship songs on my ipod. So I guess it makes sense I don't really have any complaints songs getting old at our church. The worship team does a great job (although I was devestated by their changing the pace of Audience of One last weekend and had to listen to the real version as soon as I got out of church).

  51. VickiS. 5 February 2009 at 11:35 pm #

Our church has had a recent resurrection of "Shout to the Lord" The song is a Christian Praise classic, but I'd prefer not to sing it every other week.

  52. Jessica Eveland 5 February 2009 at 11:41 pm #

anything off of Chris Tomlin Arriving

  53. . greg varney . 6 February 2009 at 1:16 am #

    i love our church's music.
    period.
if i had to pick one though, i'd go with "here is our king"

  54. Rachel 6 February 2009 at 1:22 am #

    Enough
    All Because Of Jesus
    Glorious One
    O Happy Day
From the Inside Out (One of my favorite songs ever, but the way our worship band sings it is just awful.)
    Blessed Be Your Name
    One Way

  55. Pokinatcha 6 February 2009 at 1:38 am #

Our Worship Pastor mixes up the songs pretty good. There are songs I like singing more than others. If I never sing "Light Of The World" by Tim Hughes again in church, that'd be fine by me!

    • bricebohrer 6 February 2009 at 2:45 pm #

oh yeah, forgot about that one, amen to that. Is it just me or are the melody lines getting harder and harder to sing?

  56. Brandon 6 February 2009 at 2:16 am #

This answer depends on who your preacher is. Ask yourself: would I rather here music I'm tired of or bad preaching?

Now if Andy Stanley is the preacher, one doesn't need music – I'd much rather listen to him for an extra 20-30 minutes.

  57. Lana 6 February 2009 at 2:27 am #

Whatever song it is that goes "Let the Redeemed of the Lord say so…." and goes in to "to be salt and light in the world, in the world, to be salt and light in the world…" UGH. Can't stand the melody. Lyrics make me feel like I'm at some Jesus rally, and not really worshipping. Guess I prefer more vertical songs. :) When my friend who is worship pastor happens to start it up, we make eye contact and I make the gag face. She says she does it just for me.

  58. jericdavis 6 February 2009 at 3:28 am #

Wow, lots of folks on here are tired of lots of songs. I think this could simply be the result of cutting edge churches. No offense, I love upbeat, "relevant" worship experiences. But honestly the vast majority of these songs we are complaining about are no older than two or three years old. When the goal of a worship experience is to have only the latest, coolest songs, the worship leaders only have a small catalog of songs to choose from. Sorry, but I think that is just the way it is. There are so many great old hymns– maybe we could dust 'em off– jazz them up a bit. You'd have a lot more songs to choose from. Maybe we wouldn't grow tired of songs so quickly if we did not sing them so often. I guess another option would be to have a full-time composer on staff– but who has the money for that?

  59. Amanda_Sims 5 February 2009 at 7:47 pm #

Indescribable. Everlasting God. All Creatures of our God and King. Above All. Here I am to Worship. Pretty much anything by Chris Tomlin that came out before 2 years ago.

Oh, sorry, you said "song" – not collection of songs. (Hee hee)

  60. Phillip Gibb 6 February 2009 at 12:23 pm #

ha ha ha, that would be interesting – a full time composer.

I don't think any of the songs need to take a break,

of course if you have played the song more than 3 times in the Month then maybe it should take a break.

the poor musicians would know – they need to practice the song and do run throughs,

we just sing it once on the day, oooo

  61. bricebohrer 6 February 2009 at 2:43 pm #

That horrible shouting song: We Are The Redeemed, We Are The Ones Who Are Free, if that is the name of it. I barely care enough to google it and find the real name. Apparently, you only really love Jesus if you scream it.

  62. Ben 6 February 2009 at 3:21 pm #

Not to rabbit trail, but I was the exact opposite on Healer, I'm not sick, but I'm messed up just like Mike M. and he can heal me too….

  63. CaroleTurner 6 February 2009 at 4:17 pm #

90% of all Hillsong. Sorry, I love them but wow, I can only take so much of one sound….for years….over and over.

  64. Travis 6 February 2009 at 5:17 pm #

Our worship team always opens up the service with a hymn, and its always Get All Excited or I'll Fly Away. I wish we'd do away with both of them. We're a church that's trying to go more modern but the people in our worship team are more of the older more traditional type, so its an odd balance, but what can you do.

  65. Zack 6 February 2009 at 7:00 pm #

None of them. I believe we live in the best generation ever with regard with worship music available.

Sure it gets a little repetitive singing the verse to 'Everlasting God', but that song is a thousand times better than most of what was available to my dad, so how can I complain?

Furthermore, in the cluster of small towns where I live, getting any decent contemporary music into a church building is a huge victory.
I know lots of folks around here who believe that instruments are dishonoring to God!

  66. Eris Pappas 6 February 2009 at 7:51 pm #

This is my Fathers World… it need a long break

  67. Jason 6 February 2009 at 8:19 pm #

I think I could use more Sarah's at my church!! :)

  68. Marcus 6 February 2009 at 8:58 pm #

I don't know how the rest of you do it….but our band is all volunteer including the leadership so we don't have tons of time for new stuff…so We're doing a new song every 3 weeks and then "circulating" one out of play. So we typically have about 32 songs in our potential play list.

  69. Jim 7 February 2009 at 12:53 am #

We rotate our lists quite a bit and mix in a good dose of the hymnal.

  70. Stephen Stonestreet 7 February 2009 at 4:56 am #

I could sing of your love forever. dang, i have no idea why we dont play any hillsong or david crowder, gah!

  71. Katie 7 February 2009 at 6:07 am #

At least most of the songs listed are from this decade. Mine is "Lord I Lift Your Name On High". We've had a while to tire of this one.

  72. Bonnie_Irving 8 February 2009 at 9:23 pm #

Ok, Have a Confession to Make! God made me Eat my Words Today in our Worship Service! Which is Why i am Learning to NOT say stuff like songs i think are tired and need a rest..( not that I think that is wrong or anything for anyone else make these Comments) But , For me, Because I right away I felt like i was Limiting God , and as SOON as i say something like.. I dont ever want to have to do…This Thing.. Or Go that Place.. Is the Time God Allways( well, Most of the time) manages to Put me in a Place of having to DO that which i said i never wanted to do,, Or In MY case today.. I commented Recently On how i Felt that the Song " From the Inside Out" was one that needed a Rest… That was until today when our Worship Team Played that particular Song Today and The Spirit REALLY Moved on my Heart and Ministered to me and my Husband in a real Personal way today. So, I am here to Confess That I was convicted about doing that, with that particular song..This Could Probably fit into Los's Subject of i Hate it when i … Because i Knew the Minute they started Playing it.. I felt a Check in my Spirit..It was in a Loving way though:) No Condemnation at all! :) Just wanted to share

  73. David 10 February 2009 at 5:31 pm #

everlasing God needs to get put away for a long time… the song is so repetitive in nature

  74. Kevin Richardson 10 February 2009 at 8:53 pm #

Our church has just let go of some Paul Baloche classics… Open the Eyes of my Heart, Offering, etc. Good tunes that had a good run!

Trading My Sorrows. The congregation loves it, but the team gags every time it's mentioned. And beautiful one…
