A Pretty Girl In Her Underwear // PUMA

Posted on 20. Mar, 2009 by loswhit in Creativity

I am a firm believer in the fact that churches do not have to spend large sums of money in order to provide visually stunning environments.
Here is an example of innovation and low budget coming together.
Not that PUMA does not have a huge pocketbook.
They do.
But they accomplished turning a white room with a few props into various wonderlands with the help of a few projectors.
The most amazing feat is that both actors are in their underwear the entire time and the clothing you see is nothing more than projections onto them.
BRILLIANT!!!

If a man with a baritone voice singing about pretty people in their underwear disturbs you then watch this instead. (and watch until at least 1:35)

Now go create…
Los

I'll just throw it out there… for some churches, a few projectors is a huge sum of $.

Just found 4 on craigs list with 10,000 lumen, each 100 bucks or less.

Exactly, I have a friend that is part of a church in the middle of nowhere up here in NY that just got it's first computer in their office this past week. It's all relative but for them to drop $100 on video would seem huge.

Would it be worth it for them to spend even $800 on creating an environment? YES! Would it seem like a huge amount to them? Yes.

My 2 cents. This is just to get the creative juices flowing . . . there are still tons of things that can be done for hardly any money at all to create a great environment. This week are are just moving EVERYTHING on the stage to a different place and re-blocking all our lights and swapping out some gels. Cost = $0. In a few weeks we are adding some banners (that do have a small cost) and probably changing the look again. I can easily think of 20 things your friends small church could do that would cost less than $25 ea. to add some creativity to their services.

I know . . . how narcissistic do you have to be to post a reply to yourself . . . but it just occurred to me that I should blog about those 20 ideas for less that $25 ea. I'll get it up this weekend.

Yeah..some props from discount stores, some colored christmas lights, and strategically placed candles and other items, alters visual imagery each week…I am starting this with my youth group just by hitting consignment sales, discount thrift stores, and people wanting their attics cleaned out.

how touching..*sniff* (i missed it too)

  14. Adam_S 20 March 2009 at 3:50 pm #

The first one is cool. Innovative and different. Don't see a lot of churches projecting clothes on some unclothed people, but I am sure someone can steal the idea somehow : )

    • Jim 21 March 2009 at 2:07 am #

no,but we could probably project shoes onto all the feet with flip-flops

Our whole stage design for the past couple months cost us about $70. We are in a real tight financial time like a lot of other churches, but it doesn't mean you stop creativity. When things are tough it is time for the artists of the church to step it up since most of them live off of near to nothing year round anyway.

  16. Graham Brenna 20 March 2009 at 4:21 pm #

True that! I'm workin on a plan to make my stage look more awesome…er. There will no doubt be some cost involved, but we're pretty good about being good stewards at my church (as I'm sure we all are) and we'll make it happen by spending the least amount of money possible!

That Puma clip was quite possibly the most amazing idea I've seen in a WHILE! I'm not a huge fan od people running around in their underwear, but I think I'm still impressed!

Vimeo works half the time for me, so this time I was not disturbed by the underwear people because it didn't work.

  25. mike foster 20 March 2009 at 10:18 pm #

that was cool…and those old chicks can bring it! and play the trumpet…

  26. Jim 21 March 2009 at 2:04 am #

I like to build and design props and we've been able to do some trick stuff for plays with all sorts of junk that most people throw away, lumber, etc. I visited @brettaljets at Whipplecreekchurch.com last week and they have a skate park in the sanctuary. Every Thursday, hundreds of local youth come from Vancouver,WA area to skate inside the sanctuary. Would you do this?

  27. davemiers 21 March 2009 at 2:24 am #

we're not going to see you on here with your underwear are we??!
