What Was The Last Cassette Tape You Owned
I know 50% of you have never even seen one of these.
But for those of you old geezers…
What was the last cassette tape you remember buying or owning?
Los

If I said it was the cassingle "Girl You Know It's True" by Milli Vanilli, would you judge me?
Newsboys – Shine & Soul Asylum – Runaway Train
It was a rehearsal tape for the church worship team, circa 2000. Ah, memories!
I think it was either U2 – Joshua Tree or Rattle and Hum. I wore them out.
Baby Baby – Amy Grant
Dang that was a long time ago
Living Color…Cult of Personality.
You know they are still around!
Some Celtic Music Cassette that my car stereo ate.
i had a cassette eating player too!
Actually this summer I just got a huge amount of books on tape, so I'm thinking the last one that I got was by Robert Kiyosaki. Retire Young, Retire Rich. But I haven't actually made it through any of them. Musically, that last one I have seen was probably by the Doobie Brothers.
Or you could count the one I used to wire my iPod to the car.
Percy Sledge – Greatest Hits
I was studying the art of silky soul
G-n-R Appetite for Destruction
Slash at his best!
G-n-R Appetite for Destruction

I still own most of my old cassette tapes and listen to them somewhat regularly on my car (that has a tape deck! shut up! no I won't!)
My favorite is Disco Mickey Mouse.
I still own lots of tapes recorded from CDs, many years ago. But the last (legal) cassette I owned was a Dire Straits album… I still love cassettes
Michael W. Smith, Picture Perfect, I think that was the name of the album, I'm honestly not sure.
G-n-R Appetite for Destruction
Slash at his best!
And you?
I think it had to be the Aladdin soundtrack about 15 years ago. Damn, I'm an old 24 year old. =)
Guess next question for us old geezers is this: what can we do with these monstrous little things?
copper blue : sugar
Michael Jackson.
X)
It's a tossup between Bon Jovi's "New Jersey" and dcTalk's "Nu Thang". Both were classics!
i think something with carmen on it
Black Crowe's Shake Your Money Maker is the last Cassette I remember buying, probably almost 20 years ago.
I think it had to be the Aladdin soundtrack about 15 years ago. Damn, I'm an old 24 year old. =)
Next question would be…what can we do with these monstrous little things?
Sandi Patty's "Find It On the Wings" or that Lounge Freak tape with the Lounge remixes of CCM songs. Killer stuff, I know.
Baby, Baby – Amy Grant
Michael W. Smith! I was in the 4th grade and my boyfriend gave it to me for Christmas.
Which would you rather own, a copy of the text of the Declaration of Independence or an actual photocopy of the original? Which would you rather listen to, an FM station that plays the same music as everybody else, or an AM station that plays some truly unique music that is otherwise never heard anywhere? Sometimes quality doesn't matter if the material is of historical significance.
So don't throw the cassette tape out with the bath water. (Great metaphor, huh?) For me, one of the final treasures was a cassette of the British Christian band After The Fire (ATF) given to me by a Christian d.j. in Ottawa, Canada. And vinyl record sales tripled in the U.S. in 2008; so hey; you never know…
That must be why my parents still have their reel-to-reel machine and some of the tunes!!!
T-Bone… Redeemed Hoodlam
I think it was Boyz 2 Men (shame) , Beach Boys or Back to the Future soundtrack.
Dance Mix '95. It was awesome.
Rich Mullins – The World As Best I Can Remember It. Vol. II – Best Road Trip Album Ever.
DC Talk Jesus Freak…I played it until it snapped, I was 14
Sorry for the multiples. My computer's going crazy on me
Didn't intend to send that so many times!
i know i use to bump some Master P and the Beastie Boys tapes on a system worth more than the car itself.
STP (Stone Temple Pilot)
I'm pretty sure the last cassette tape I owned was the soundtrack of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. I distinctly remember it being red and being awesome.
Clay Crosse – My Place is With You
Old Skool
real life mix-tape. don't judge
My Favourite T.V. Themes. Spelled that way because I grew up in Canada. I still have it because it has the A-Team on the sleeve.
NOFX and Goldfinger
I can't remember the last, but I remember my first purchase when I was 10: Guns n Roses, Use Your Illusion 2. I played November Rain until it was warped and unplayable.
Had to be Jimmy Buffet but for the life of me I can't remember which one … could have been rattle and hum
Like Ryan, I can't remember my last, but I do remember my first…Michael W. Smith's "Change Your World!"
I'm pretty sure it was a Hanson cassette tape.
I loved them.
That's right…those three blonde boys from Tulsa.
I'm pretty sure It was Boyz II Men- Cooleyhighharmony.
I think it was Nirvana Nevermind…not sure though, it's been TOO long. I miss that crackle!
Jesus Freak by DC Talk…ha ha ha ha
Probably Vanilla Ice… I'm not proud
Pet Shop Boys – Behaviour
It's sad that one has to define STP these days…
Tie – U2 Rattle and Hum (my second copy) and Run DMC's Raising Hell (my third copy). I listened to both of those albums so much I ruined their predecessors.
LL Cool J. Walking with a Panther.
Sing it with me… "I'm going back to Cali, Cali, Cali,, I'm going back to Cali.. hmm, I don't think so…"
Wow… long time ago. I had a 1978 Ford Thunderbird with an 8-Track. It had a cassette adapter for it. Had to be a cassette single… maybe "Why Can't This be Love" by Van Halen???
Bad Company….won it off the back of a cereal box
Cassette: John Mellencamp/Tom Petty
8 Track tape Bee Gees
Albums Monkees
The Songs of Larry Norman and some Brooklyn Tab
Rolling Stones – Steel Wheels
The last one I can remember bumping to in two-toned hatchback in high school is The Score by The Fugees.
Com'on. That was To the Extreme. That was the first CD I ever owned.
Newsboys – Take me to your leader.
I'm ashamed.
wow. i thought we were dating ourselves discussing cassettes
Rattle and Hum is classic
i miss being able to drop it in the floorboard, kick it around for two weeks, blow on it, pop it in and listen to it. CDs will never have that resilience.
ahh, my first non-Christian album as a kid
A nice little mix tape my then boyfriend (now hubby) made for me!
: ) I grew up Unitarian… so I didn't even know Christian music existed until I was in high school! Thats about all I listen to now though, Praise the Lord!
Anthrax – Sound of white noise
Stone Temple Pilots – Core
Bought them at the same time in '92
My first Cassette 'Brothers in Arms'
Lonestar "Lonely Grill" or Brooks & Dunn Greatest Hits. i was such a country bumpkin back then.

Steven Curtis Chapman – The Great Adventure.
That's tough to admit.

Supertones Strike Back!
Def Leppard – Hysteria – it was awesome
Last one I remember was White Heart – Tales of Wonder. All the time in the car!
Got to believe that it was a bootleg given to me most like from a Phish or Widespread Panic show.
Can't honestly remember the last one I bought, but the last I owned were GN'R's Appetite, Illusion 1 and 2 and all of Metallica's stuff up through Reload. Gave them all to a friend who only had a cassette player in his truck.
Nice. Same here – can't remember the last I purchased, but the first was Appetite For Destruction. Ended up having to get two more copies over the years cause I wore that thing out.
Gave all mine away to friends who didn't have CD players in their cars and didn't want to invest in CD-to-cassette adapters.
1991 – Pearl Jam – ten – Actually not sure why I never got it on CD, but will probably download the whole album at some point.
LOL – I had the whole album on cassette. "Blame it on the rain…" I was so bummed when they were outed.
Did that have the Ninja Rap on it by Vanilla Ice?
I still have ALL of mine at my moms house (the ones that didn't get eaten, that is). TONSSSSSSSSSS of them! I'd probably laugh my guts out if I pulled them out. I don't think I even OWN a tape deck anymore….but I DO remember all of us carrying "boom boxes" on our shoulders trying to be "cool" like Will Smith on The Fresh Prince. Then came the "pocket rocker". Anyone remember those?! Ahhhhh….the good ol' days!
Reality Bites soundtrack. "Oh, baby I love your way!"
Kris Kross – Totally Krossed Out
boys II men – II
it was also the first album i bought on cd.
New Kids on the Block…yay I pretty much wore that tape out
Newsboys – Going Public (1994)
I've been entirely digital since 96 though.
If you're a geezer at 24, I must be ancient at 34
this is sad: Ace of Base
bette midler…from a distance
oh the joys of rehearsal tapes
Yes we thought we'd really arrived when we started getting CDs instead. Geesh.
kill me now…Petra.
you can't judge me based on this because i was only 7, but it was Aqua…you know the band that sang "I'm a Barbie Girl"…1997-ish…
Sam Cooke's Greatest Hits. We use to listen to the 8 track when I was little.
yeah, the only tape i could remember today. oh but i think my Alanis Morissette "Jagged Little Pill" was a tape.
That is exactly the same tape I last remember buying….I had to work nights and I would blast it in my room to get awake before I headed out.
ha! That was my last tape. Oh man did that teach to me to emote in middle school….as if middle schoolers need to learn to emote more! Her acoustic album – now found on CD or other digital mediums – of Jagged Little Pill is amazing.
"I'm … the … cult … of;" oh, sorry; no wait; "'Ask not what your country can do for you;" Enter awesome grindage. (Posted by the artist formerly known as towncrier86)
Milli Vanilli (sp?). It was a saWEET album!!!
By the way…anyone else notice that the tape is still in the cassette?
To answer the question, I think it was would be something like Giant's "Last of the Runaways" or something like that, circa 1990; maybe some Twila Paris with the great ex-White Heart rhythm section – Tommy Sims, et. al.; Man, listening to some Giant (Dann and David Huff, at least back in the day) at http://www.myspace.com/gianttheband. Dig it!
No, blair; I wouldn't judge you for that, man.
Not sure, but we found my sister's copy of Songs from the Loft when cleaning out her house last year. Oh. My.
whats a cassette tape?
The "Fame" soundtrack. I bought it when I lived in Mexico City for, like, the equivalent of a dollar near a subway station. I was feeling nostalgic for U.S. musicals. "Hot Lunch" rules.
boyz II men – cooleyhighharmony
represent!
boyz II men – giddy up!!!
Hmmm…lets see: Bob Marley EXODUS! Loved the tape out…that is one level higher than wore it out. I got the CD now
Sting's double cassette … "Bring on the Night" LIVE! with his 'Dream of the Blue Turtle' Jazz Band with Brandford Marsalis, Kenny Kirkland and Omar Hakim… yeah!
How can I forget when the tape gets stuck onto the magnetic head of the player and you try to wind them back into the casing. I remember having to throw them away because nobody wants them even for free…. I since got the CD version and DVD as well.
shoot… i MADE tapes. i was so cheap, i would sit by my stereo and hit record as soon as a song i liked came on.
Johnny Cash "Greatest Hits"It came with my company car…in the glove box. It's a Ford Taurus with a tape player/radio only. Power everything, but no cd?
Petra – Beyond Belief in about 91/92 was the last one I bought. Last one I had was a genuine mix tape I made when at University (97), I could only afford to install a cassette player my old car (1980 Mini Clubman).
I made a bunch of mixtapes but I am thinking it was probably Tribe Called Quest – Low End Theory
The most precious tape I own is one I recorded myself back in 1986, while I was an exchange student (from Belgium) in McCook Nebraska. I recorded the local radio KICX. Now, I just created a group on Facebook to reconnect with my classmates and can't wait to share with them the radio voices and music we were listening to while "cruisin' main" : )
The last cassette I remember buying was a SINGLE…oh yeah…Dr. Dre. Stop & Let Me Ride.
Bon Jovi – Slippery When Wet….and I still have it. I have nothing to play it on, but I still have it.
Probably "Vision" by Chris Eaton, or "AD" by Kerry Livgren.
the soundtrack to Oliver and Company. I thought it was cool that the dog was a musical mutt played by Billy Joel
I am still playing my "BURLAP TO CASHMERE" cassette to this day – lol it is the only cassette I still listen to – I guess i should prob rip it to a CD , huh?
Great post… blast from the past…
BTW – first cassette? "Cooleyhighharmony" by Boyz II Men… chyeah!
Petra – Beyond Belief
Warren G. Regulate. My dad found it and listened and was not pleased with the language. His punishment didn't work since I still listen to Jay Z, Common, Kanye, T.I. amongst others. I'm sure I get some funny looks being an almost 30 white dude in South Carolina with two kids head-bobbin' in the back seat to Lil' Wayne as I pull up to church to lead worship.
Bobby Brown-Don't be cruel
DC Talk Free at Last. I went through at least two of these tapes because they broke.
That was my first CD. I got that and Stephen Curtis Chapman "Great Adventure" at the same time.
Sad indeed…:(
Audio Adrenaline…Don't Censor Me
Marshall Tucker Band- Greatest Hits
U2 – Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me single in that nifty cardboard sleeve
I don't remember my last one…but one of the ones I had growing up that wore out twice was Thriller by MJ. I also had the soundtrack to the movie 'Jacksons: the American Dream'. Other than that, not really sure what I had because I was an early adopter of the cd.
as little as 2 years ago –> Vanilla Ice – To the Extreme
pearl jam vs. still their best work
Tapestry by Carol King
OMG….141 comments? Good pix of Jimmy
Man… I'm going so old school… and metal. Stryper – To Hell with the Devil
"Speechless" by Steven Curtis Chapman. This makes me…speechless.
It was a blank one. My voice teacher wanted me to record our lessons on it. Some days I come across it and I just laugh, I sound more like a banshee than a singer
Michael W. Smith "I 2 Eye"
U2 Rattle and Hum
I think it was Garth Brooks.
I found "Boston" (debut album) at the Roswell Good Will store last year. It was still playable. People in Roswell give away GOOD Stuff. I got a great leather Targus laptop bag (one zipper slightly mis-functioning) for $10.
Journey, Escape
Still a classic, LOL
The last one I bought was definitely a Hillsong one but I don't remember the name of it. I bought it with a CD. Crazy right? Sometime in the 90s. My mom still has it.
i still own Charlie Peacock's "West Coast Diaries" Vol 1, 2, & 3.
coolest thing is i got him to sign them at the Feedback Conference last year, then he recognized me at the Art, Music, Justice Tour
Used to own? I still have a stack of them that I listen to in my car! James Taylor's Greatest Hits is my all time favorite album/tape/cd. I've thought about buying it in cd format, but I just can't bring myself to do it. Somehow, it would ruin the listening experience.
DA (Daniel Amos)'s Darn Floor, Big Bite. Awesome
Dude, embarrassingly enough, my 10th grade girlfriend gave me the Ace Of Bass "I Saw The Sign" tape. Maybe she was trying to tell me something haha.
About two years ago I had the most surreal tape moment ever. I was doing grad school research in a little village 6+ hours of four-wheel driving, past the end of the paved road in North Eastern Sierra Leone. The sun was going down and the only lights remaining were from the cooking fires across the village. When all of a sudden our driver popped his "Shakira" tape into the pickup's stereo and this group of kids started to swing their hips. And did they ever have skills!! I'm not sure what surprised me more, hearing Shakira after listening to Celine Dione for ALL of the 6+ hours out there:), or watching music so swiftly supersede culture and traditions.
