Above is a picture of my burger.
Best burger I’ve had in the ATL. (and yes, I’ve been to vortex)
My new favorite lunch spot.

if you haven't had the burger at Vortex or Ann's Snack Bar, you need to try those before going with the frou-frou at Flip… One of my fav restaurants is Fox Bros BBQ (also w/ a "burger" that is really chopped brisket, bacon, pimento cheese – can you tell i like burgers?).

San Francisco wouldn't be the same without Rosamunde Sausage Grill. It is a hole in the wall with a couple of barstools and a small counter, its on Haight Street between Fillmore and Steiner. They have 16 or so different sausages, crazy flavors like Chicken with Cherry, Duck with Figs, Wild Boar, Smoked Lamb with Pototoes and Sundried Tomatoes, but then traditional stuff like Bratwurst, Weisswurst, Beer Sausage, Knockwurst, Andouille. $5 a sausage, could take 5 minutes or upwards of 30 minutes so order more than one, cash only, burgers served on Tuesdays. They are right next to a pub called Toronado that stocks the largest selection of Belgian Beer in SF and you can take your grub there. Seriously, this is one of those places not to be missed.

Village Bakery, Amarillo, Tx. They make artisan breads and wonderful desserts (incl creme brulee). They make sandwiches of all kinds, hot & cold. They have a hot lunch special daily. They only seating for about 20 inside & 6 outside, so it is crowded. Have I mentioned the desserts & the homemade breads?

Nanaga Farm Stall, PE, South Africa – They serve the best roosterkoek ever. It is this local pastry thing, cooked over a fire. Yum!

Haven't been there in a long time, but I'm assuming that South City Kitchen is still kick arse (is that how you spell it when you don't want to say ass?)
Anyway, South City KItchen has contemporary Southern food… it's on Crescent Ave. in Midtown Atlanta, and they have a Vinings location now too.

Their site…. and a little bit from the google search:
    http://www.southcitykitchen.com/
South City Kitchen offers a fresh and comfortable approach to new south cuisine in a vibrant cosmopolitan setting.

    In my own words:
It's Southern Food with a twist.
    Fabulous!!

There really isn't a restaurant in the town we live in other than pizza places. So in neighboring town of Chillicothe there is a place called Carl's Townhouse and they have great burgers along with corn nuggets. Also we live close to Portsmouth which has the famous Hickey's Hamburgers, they are awesome.

My new favorite burger spot here in ATL is Canyons (http://www.canyonsburgers.com) Deeelicious burgers! But I'll have to try this Flip place…

    • Warren Thomas 30 March 2009 at 3:46 pm #

Jennifer, if Canyon is your favorite burger in Atlanta, I'm afraid you might not have tried enough… :) It's tasty no doubt, but only a step above fast food (no offense to the In-n-Out folks). Check out http://www.guidespot.com/guides/atlantas_best_ham... for some other suggestions. I can personally vouch for the Vortex, Highland Tap, and of course the legendary Ghetto Burger at Ann's Snack bar. Try them all!

      • Jennifer V. 30 March 2009 at 5:55 pm #

Thanks for the suggestions Warren! :)
I'm still a newbie to ATL and don't do enough exploring as I should but looking forward to check out some new spots!

Dude, that place looks so cool! I love restaurants that take a unique twist on something simple. Sweet store and site design and the burgers look every bit as tasty.

There's a little local burger place here in Carmel that is well known among the locals. It is right on a main bike/hike trail so you can ride your bikes there, get a great burger, sit a while and then ride back.

    Thai food… very good… always consistent… good/reasonable prices.
The main reason we dig this joint is because of the EXCELLENT customer service! We've gotten to know the manager and a particular server there… they always treat us well and often (not always) they give us the hook up with little extras!

I am sure Nashvegas has something like this and I just don’t know about it. That being said I really like Fat Moes and 5 guys. Two very tasty joints. I am not saying though there is not something better and I hope I find it. Oh wait Texas Roadhouse has some tasty burgers.

I enjoy a burger as much as the next guy but Flip is too new and trendy for me to suffer the wait. If I’m going to wait for my food, I’m going to go with something tried and true. On that side of town, it would be Nuevo Laredo.

Tijuana Flats for sure! They've drifted all over Florida and into a few other states, but I'll always think of it as an Orlando thing. (There are at least 4 within a short drive of my office!) Love 'em.

  56. Vy Tran 30 March 2009 at 5:15 pm #

Kabuto Japanese Steakhouse in Charlotte, North Carolina on Pineville-Matthews Road (there are three locations in Charlotte). They serve great sushi and I've never had a problem with the service there. If you're not too full after dinner, you can go next door to Starbucks for a dessert frappucino, too.

    http://www.kabutos.com/kabutos/index.html

If I'm feeling like having something cheaper but still awesomely fresh-tasting, I go to Just Fresh, which is also in Charlotte (I go to the Rivergate Pkwy location). It's a cafe-type place with a really comfortable atmosphere. Their Bahama Mama wrap is to die for.

Pueblo Real in Franklin, Tn. Unassuming place…amazing al pastor tacos and tamales and chorizo con papas and caldo de camerones!!! Of course they have Americanized Mexican food for the gringos, but look at the a la carte menu or just ask for anything you can think of that isn't on the menu, they'll make you anything. :) It's a mile from my house and we eat there several times per week. :) Yum!
