We did them all, tooth fairy, Easter Bunny, and Santa Claus. Then my bright straight-A son, kept growing up and kept believing. I was sure he'd figure it out and he just didn't. He was baptized and believing in Jesus and I suddenly became very, very afraid that when we broke it to him about the others he'd put God and Jesus into the same category so I was very pleased when one day we were riding in the car and he said, "I don't believe in the Easter Bunny."

"You don't?" I asked. "Well, who do you think brings all the candy and hides the eggs on Easter?"

"Well, it can't be a real bunny, because he can't carry all the candy and toys. And it can't be a man dressed up in a bunny suit because he can't get around the whole world in one night..."

At this point, I am nodding my head with a big goofy smile, and waving my hands back and forth between me and my husband to make sure he gets it, "So...who do you think does it then?"

Without missing a beat he replies, "I think it's really Santa Claus because he already has a workshop, elves to help him and a sleigh to make it around the world in one night...."

<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pre-Christian_Alpine_traditions#Krampus" target="_blank">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pre-Christian_Alpine...</a>

Basically, instead of "toys" vs. "coal" being brought by Santa, in this tradition, if you're good, Santa brings you stuff...if you're bad, Krampus takes you away in a sack. Maybe you're made into toys?!

I kid, of course, but the thought is amusing to me.

Our hypothetical kids will just be given it with a smile and a wink, but never with the assumption that they're real. We'll tell them that Krampus is real, though, because FEAR WORKS.

Billie's story is my favorite.

our 9-year-old asked us this weekend and we totally busted out the truth.... we've evaded for a while but refuse to lie to her, so we came clean on all fictional gift-giving characters. we've always focused on Jesus anyways...

however, my parents usually bring us some Cadbury Eggs and fast food gift cards in an Easter Basket, and I'll never complain about free stuff! :)

Yes growing up we did Santa and the Easter Bunny and we've continued the tradition in our family. However we do read the Nativity story during the Christmas season and read the last week of Jesus' life here on earth during the Easter week. We've taught both of our girls the true meaning of both of these special holidays and what they mean to us as Christ followers.

Fantastic!

If I told my Congolese friends about the Easter bunny, I'm pretty sure they'd look at me like I had snakes crawling out of my ears.

My parents never did the Easter bunny with us and I doubt I'll do it with my hypothetical children. Same reason: I'm just not comfortable lying to kids.
