Free Mike Vick

Everybody knows it. If you ever played me in Madden, I was the Falcons.
Madden ‘06. I was unstoppable.
Vick shotgun spread. Drift left. If you came at me I’d dink it to Dunn and 20 yards later you’d be cryin.
If you bit on Dunn, Vick would smoke yo tail.
Every time. Clockwork.
Then he had to go gangsta on me and murder innocent animals.  Disgusting.
I’m not a pet guy. I get semi bothered by people who stick them in their purses and such.
I don’t get it.
But they probably don’t get why I stick Losiah in my backpack and carry him around everywhere I go either.
Some were calling for Vick’s head. Some were calling for Vick’s legs. Some were just calling for Vick’s future.
But you know what is crazy?
All God is calling for in Vick’s future is hope.
Hope that Vick can prosper.
I know what you are thinking. This is coming from a Vick football fan. I own his jersey for the love!!!
You know what sucks?
You’re right.
And so is HE.
HE is in the business of giving us second chances.
HE is in the business of making Saints out of Suck.

Look back for a second at your Suck then thank God He made you a Saint…
Los

I had a hard time with the crusade people went on against Vick. It's legal in this country to have an abortion and end what was going to be a human life, but you should go straight to hell over animal abuse. (Don't get me wrong I don't think we should abuse animals)

  4. Ben 21 May 2009 at 3:32 am #

I replied to ESPN today saying the exact same thing. The man deserves a second chance… Glad to know someone else is giving him one too…

I agree. However, spokes-person for the SPCA? A stretch. Unless he's telling people that if they don't adopt a pet they'll be killed (hidden sub-text: "Like I used to kill animals.")

I love Vick… okay okay I admit it I'm a HUGE Hokie fan and grew up in the state of VA. The biggest problem I have with this whole situation is that Dog and Cock fighting happens everywhere and is apart of some cultures (at least in VA). When I was in high school a guy named Dontae brought his pit bull puppy to a football game. He then proceeded to drag the puppy when it got tired because it "needed to be tough." Why does Vick have to serve time when it happens everyday and NO ONE gets punished! Just because he's famous he gets punished… Okay so that was my rant, sorry!

I'm also a 49er fan and we need a good QB… Vick, PLEASE come to San Fran!!!! PLEASE!!!!!

who took that picture? losiah? You are square on.

  8. Jay 21 May 2009 at 3:41 am #

Unfortunately, Vick is famous so it allows for self-righteousness to rear its ugly head a lot easier than if he was just some dude who that was running a dog fighting operation.

That's speaking as somebody who has fallen to the spell of self-righteousness from time to time.

  9. Steven Russell 21 May 2009 at 3:46 am #

    I agree.

We should all thank God for second chances.

Heaven is filled with people God gave second chances.

    Why should we judge?

He's been in a prison here in Kansas. Our new claim to fame. I hope he's redeemed, frankly. I know what he did was pretty sick and wrong… but who are any of us without grace, eh?

I agree that Vick should be given a second chance. From a spiritual standpoint, all he has to do is ask forgiveness, his sin is no more or less sinful than anyone else's sin. From a social standpoint, he served his sentence and paid his debt to society.
But, it remains one of the most unjust aspects of our society that nearly all convicted felons are treated as social pariah's for the rest of their lives, even if they pay their debt and truly reform. Most people in that situation will be excluded from a decent job or a decent place to live perpetually. We set them up to become repeat offenders by treating them so poorly, then wonder why the recidivism rate is so high. Duh, it is what we make it.
Good luck to Vick on breaking through this prejudice and maybe bringing a better future for other former felons.

That is they key though. Asking for forgiveness. Not denying that you did anything wrong in the first place. The "that ain't mine" defense makes me almost as angry as the crime itself. And I admit that as a former veterinary nurse who has sown up the "bait dogs" used to train fighters I am probably more upset than many.

We way too often root for other people to fail. Guess it makes us feel better. I for one will be rooting for him, in life more so than football.

  13. Tyler_Braun 21 May 2009 at 4:09 am #

Here's to hoping the Vikings sign him instead of Favre.

  14. Nick Blevins 21 May 2009 at 5:16 am #

So, Los, are you trying to say Vick is going to play for New Orleans? :)

  15. JakeSchwein 21 May 2009 at 5:30 am #

    Vick needs Jesus too!!

  16. Tyson 21 May 2009 at 12:14 pm #

    agreed.

In the news, if a pit attacks and mauls a person, people scream "lock up all the pits!" They protest on street corners with signs that tell us that pits are killers, and we shouldn't have those kind of killers in our midst. I love dogs, and my dog of choice is a rottweiller. The thngs that Vick did are terrible, no doubt. He was tried, sentenced, and served his time. It's not all that amazing that people still want more punishment. I seem to remember another that was tried, but he was found innocent. Despite that, the judge still offered a sentence to satisfy the crowd. Even after the beating, they wanted more. I'm not saying that Vick is Jesus, and I'm not saying that Vick was innocent. I'm just saying that our blood-thirsty tendencies have not gone away.

I did terrible thngs before salvation changed me, and the thngs I did affected people, not dogs. Still, Jesus loved me enough to give me release from my sin. I echo the shout "FREE MIKE VICK!" I also hope that Dallas signs him…

Vick, what a waste of air! That piece of shit needs to be drug down the street and ground up and fed to the hogs. They were to easy on him. 23 months at Club Fed, give me a break!

"HE is in the business of making Saints out of Suck … "

Los my friend, I love it!

Could not agree more. we all suck – we all sin – we all fall short – we all fail
HE is bigger and HE is perfect and HE alone can save us.

This is a great post. It helps me stop thinking about football (and the fact that the Rams should get him) and realize that just like me, I need God to make a Saint out of Suck.
Thanks for the reminder and great to hear someone not bashing him for his past and telling others that he has a future.

  20. Keith Barger 21 May 2009 at 2:00 pm #

    Couldn't agree more, Los.

Saints out of Suck… might be a good album title
    hmmmmm…

Думается, если долго стараться, даже самую сложную мысль можно так подробно раскрыть.

  22. Annie_B 21 May 2009 at 2:48 pm #

Could not agree more. I'm not a football fan, and honestly didn't know who he was before everything came out. What he did was abhorrent, but he's paid his debt to society, and deserves a second chance.

  23. - Sarah :-) 21 May 2009 at 2:54 pm #

I'm with you… I'm not a Falcons fan, adn wasnt' a Vick fan before all this happened, but come on people… on word – LETIGO!! He's paid his debt. Let's hope he's learned… and even if he hasn't, it's not our JOB to judge him. Move ON already!!

  24. Stevie King 21 May 2009 at 3:00 pm #

Mike hurt me with his actions. I am not a dog in my carry on kind of guy, but our family donates a lot of time and money to helping orphaned dogs and canine rescue groups, so this bullet hit me very hard. I loved Mike and I still love the Falcons. I often wondered how everyone around him could be a knucklehead and he stay clear of it, but then I discovered as we all did, that Mike was the ring leader.

He deserves another chance. He served his debt to society and will be paying a price for years because of his actions. Our God is so big that he has already offered MV grace and will continue to do so, its just a question of if Mike actually takes him up on the offer.

I hope he makes something out of his life. Young, black males need stories of redemption to hold on to as much as we need stories of success and honor.

    And oh yeah, GO FALCONS!

  25. michael 21 May 2009 at 4:02 pm #

He messed up, football is one thing, life is another, Grace is available to us all.

one of your best posts ever….and that's not faint praise! I love the Vick analogy, but "saints out of suck" is one of the greatest, yet deepest quotes I've ever read…I love your honesty and unvarnished take on things…thanks for sharing it!!

  27. Michelle 21 May 2009 at 4:32 pm #

I know nothing about Vick but I know lots about our God who doesn't ever turn away from our suck to remind us with Him we're saints.

  28. Greg 21 May 2009 at 6:10 pm #

If you were an NFL coach would you take him? How about an NFL owner?

He deserves forgiveness for sure, but it will be interesting to see what happens with his football career.

  29. RWR 21 May 2009 at 6:43 pm #

Right on LOS!! Couldn't agree with you more. We all need to be more forgiving of others in our lives.. Like family members that stole our rib sandwich on the 4th of July.. Let it go ;D

  30. Micah 21 May 2009 at 7:30 pm #

We always made it illegal to use Vick in Madden. It was cheating. He was too fast. Impossible to catch.

I lived in Virginia during Michael Vick's college career with VT. It's because of that time that I continue to follow VT.

I get it now… you with squirls. And Mike with dogs. Kinda different. Kinda the same.

This is coming from a girl who wants a dog that will fit in her purse.

    I'm just sayin'
