Jesus Would Never…

Posted on 12. Jun, 2009 by loswhit in Deep Stuff

I’m stealing this from my friend Melissa over at LPM.
I thought it was a great question.

What biblical/theological/doctrinal issue(s) are you tired of hearing people bicker about?

Sick of the whole "are the gifts for today" bickering.

  2. Janaki 13 June 2009 at 1:59 am #

    Sick of drinking/not drinking arguments.

    Calvinism vs Arminianism >.<

Agreed. I was about to post free will vs. pre-destination

Gay marriage, abortion. I have strong convictions about both but am sick and tired of all the fighting, hate mongering going on.

    • Marni 13 June 2009 at 2:12 am #

      I second this!

    • Stephen 13 June 2009 at 2:40 am #

Seriously. I appreciated something from Jud Wilhite recently. These are no longer allowed to be spiritual issues, they have been wrenched into becoming only political issues.

  6. Hale-Yeah! 13 June 2009 at 2:08 am #

I just can't stand it when people try to get all spiritual and all of a sudden their voice turns to a whisper. just be real!

    • loswhit 13 June 2009 at 2:18 am #

Dude. Who is this? Brian Hale? ;)

nature/grace – #1 all time theological fight. At the root of many other fights. Get the low down in Henri de Lubac's "The Mystery of the Supernatural." http://www.amazon.com/Mystery-Supernatural-Milest...

I love hearing solid Biblical teaching on ANY article of doctrine as long as it has some practical aspect to it, too – but bickering? I don't like hearing ANY bickering, what-so-ever, and I'm a "Calvinist" "Charismatic", so Lord knows I have plenty of issues I could bicker over if I cared to do so! ;-)

  9. Les 13 June 2009 at 2:15 am #

But we see examples all thru the Bible how Jesus wasted his time in theological arguments right? … NOT! I'm glad I'm a citizen of heaven and not American Christendom. Embarrasses me sometimes.

Traditional worship music and contemporary worship music . . . yeah it's still a disagreement in Louisiana! LOL!

  11. Jen C 13 June 2009 at 2:25 am #

I'm tired of being preached into a Republican. I'm tired of the abortion & gay marriage junk, but mostly tired of arguing all together. We spend so much time arguing about the issues and ZERO time on loving the people involved. I wish we could all admit we suck and need God's grace. And then start genuinely caring/loving each other.

    • Janaki 13 June 2009 at 2:57 am #

      Absolutely agree. Great comment!

I’m tired of the stupid bickering over Bible translations

  14. Jay 13 June 2009 at 3:07 am #

Absolute truth (Bible thumping) vs. absolute love (Believe in Jesus and do whatever you want). There needs to be a balance.

    • Dustin 13 June 2009 at 6:37 am #

Totally, Jay. I heard a quote that really, I think, sums it up. "Truth without grace is religion. Grace without truth is fantasy. Truth and grace is Christ."

      • Jay 13 June 2009 at 6:46 pm #

Dustin, that's a great quote. I will use it in the future.

I'd have to throw the role of women in the church today, calvinism 'vs' armenianism 'vs' open theism, gifts of the spirit, how the emerging church are from the devil and so many more. I love to have my theology deepened but man I'm so sick of being judged for 'having the wrong theology' and having to defend my case. I'll do it with a loving brother or sister but not someone looking to prove me wrong.
Be the kingdom people. It looks like Jesus.

  16. Vince 13 June 2009 at 3:21 am #

I wouldn't mind taking the term 'Emerging Church' out in the street and backing my car over it

the right way to do communion…sounds crazy, but that's a battle we're fighting right now

  18. Macker 13 June 2009 at 3:29 am #

not sick of a topic getting too much airplay. just wish we would all gossip and complain less. Lord, may it begin with me.

  19. dewde 13 June 2009 at 3:31 am #

Mega-church vs. small church. I'm so over this one.

I am getting tired of having that feeling of having to act like a "good Christian."
And i am really tired of hearing any Christian talk about politics and Obama.
I could stand to never hear about how we are a Christian nation and we need to take it back for God.
We need to take Jesus to the Christians

  21. Joanna 13 June 2009 at 4:19 am #

"Christian" verses "secular" music. The whole debate is pointless and probably not making anyone more sanctified. The sooner people realize the difference is in many cases a business decision about which bunch of media outlets and stores a piece of music is released to rather than an objective measure of the musics value and suitableness the better.

  22. Reggie 13 June 2009 at 4:23 am #

Whether Jesus is the son of God.

    kiiiiiidding…..actually, half kidding

Women in Ministry/Leadership. Why is this still an issue?!

  24. Lisa 13 June 2009 at 6:31 am #

that you've not placed any faith in Christ unless you've said the "sinner's prayer", you can't be a Christian & be a democrat, small/home church is the only biblical church, pretrib/rapture/millen

  25. Pastor_T 13 June 2009 at 8:31 am #

Insert the word "bicker" and thus I'm tired of hearing it. What's the point?

All of them. Get over it, alreayd.

The whole inerrancy vs. interpretation issue drives me nuts. As if we aren't all (by virtue of the fact of 1) not being ancient Greeks and 2) reading the Bible in translation) interpreting it through the lens of culture and upbringing.

And the whole debate that leads to most churches treating women like second-class citizens of the Kingdom of God. I have a hard time hiding my bias on that one.

tithing and how much and who gets how much and when and where and AAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!

  38. Jeff Gibson 14 June 2009 at 2:07 am #

I'm tired of the whole DaVinci Code argument. Everyone knows that if Jesus had offspring, they wouldn't be living in France. They'd be in America, like all real Christians. And be Republican. And they would drive American cars. Oh wait. there are no more American cars. Except Ford.

  39. JakeSchwein 14 June 2009 at 4:45 am #

I am tired of the charismatic issue bicker!!

  40. ChrisJohnson 15 June 2009 at 7:15 pm #

probably the most tired of the following "church" issues:
    1) church bashing… I mean, come on! She's the bride of Christ! And yes, she has issues. But Christ has no problem loving her so let's get to lovin ' on His bride! ** turns up the volume on his ipod to LeCrae's song, "The Bride" **
    2) Volume issues for the musical portion of worship in our services
    3) Religious persecution on the money and healing issues

  41. Zack 15 June 2009 at 9:01 pm #

Tired of Christians talking about how much they don't like Christians…

  42. Adam 16 June 2009 at 9:09 pm #

Neo-Reformed v. Emergent (who would win in a celebrity death match? Oh what? That's not a Christian thing to do?)

  43. Matthew W 17 June 2009 at 1:06 pm #

If it has crossed the line from "discussion" to "bickering", I do not want any part in it, nor do I want to hear it. Discussion is fine, even over sensitive topics… but once it crosses that line… whew!

  44. Jay Brock 19 June 2009 at 12:42 am #

Wait, Christians bicker? I thought we were being just being honest about our desire to wage worship wars, argue over communion, fight over baptism, and go jihad on the woman's position in church!
