Question for NON WORSHIP LEADERS
This question is for all you people who sit in the crowd on Sunday. Not all you stage primas. ![]()
What is the current song, that when the band begins to lead, accelerates you to a closer place with God?
I’m fairly certain it is a different song than your worship leader thinks of.

Chris Tomlin. sorry. thought that was understood!
How He Loves (Kim Walker), Song of Strength (fred hammond), Sweep Me Away (Big Stuf)
That is a great set right there!!!
Jesus Paid it All is always a great one. And more recently Yahweh by New Life Worship is working very well in the live service. its like the people can connect instantly with the words and connect their hearts to God. Awesome!
Have not heard that yet.
you should go get it now. i hated it the first time we did it, but then the words are just so good and powerful. very Congregational.
How He Loves, Sweep Me Away, Ready Now, The Stand.
These are the first that come to mind. And also the ones I hardly hear…
not so new….but Sing to the King or Desperation Band's "Rescue"
Still great
Beautiful- Phil Whickham (also most off the SIngalong record: free at his website)
How He Loves
http://vagabondrun.com
"to him who sits on the throne" – old school hymn. Really want to rearrange it with heavy guitars, a little piano bashing, riding hi-hats & a half-dozen vocalists all doing something a little different from each other. Alas, still love it once in the blue moon when it gets played.
Hand of Mercy – Martin Chalk (Yeah, I go to Seacoast!)
Gonna go download it now.
Almost forgot…
Pour Out My Heart by Everybody Duck
Everybody Duck! Man! Haven't heard that name in ages…
I don't think they actually wrote that song, but they had a pretty sweet punk'ish worship album!
The Stand/Shine and Give It All (I think this one was NewSpring home-grown, but it's a simple chorus our peeps love)
The first ones that came to mind…
Fast Songs:
Salvation & Glory/Blessed Medley (Fred Hammond)
Lion of Judah (Eddie James)
Jesus be a Fence (Fred Hammond)
Slow Songs:
More More More (Joann Rosario)
I Am (Eddie James)
You are the Lord my King (Mark St John Carson)
Holy is the Lord(Destiny Praise)
Um. Could I please borrow like 15 talented brothers to pull these off on Sunday?!!! Awesome.
Check Out: Enter the Worship Circle : http://www.myspace.com/entertheworshipcircle
Never heard any of it in church..but would love to hear especially the last two on there:
Dude, this is awesome. Thank you. It's what I hear in my head that I can't get into my hands/throat or my congregations heads/hearts.
Jesus Knocked the Hell Out of Me (okay, just kidding)
Revelation Song
hahahahaha
that's hilarious
Hosanna, Hillsong United
Break my heart for what breaks yours, love that
Gifted Response….anything in 6/8 is fun to sing or play
God of this City.

"Your Love never fails" by Chris Quilala, wait..I am not suppose to be answering this question

Good one Brad!
Yea I'm with you. Have you heard "Freedom is here" from the new album? looks like what we'll be stuck with for the next 4 years…

From the Inside Out
Vision of You
Boom Boom Pow! Just kidding
I Am A Friend of God is a great way to start for me!
Boom Boom Pow- you're kidding me! haha that made my day.
Honestly, some of the old hymns seem to provide more depth and bring to mind more of the magnitude of what Jesus did and who God is (not that it can every be fully expressed).
Examples:
Great Is Thy Faithfulness
How Great Thou Art
Be Thou My Vision
I know I may sound like an old codger (I'm 25), but please don't get me wrong. I love today's music and really get into it, but it seems like songs with more substance "get to me" more than songs with heavy repetition of elementary principles.
Here's a few "modern" songs that I think fit into the "more substantive" category:
Marvelous Light – Charlie Hall
Beauty of Your Peace – Tim Hughes
Rescue – Desperation Band
A Mighty Fortress – Christy Nockels
gr8 songs
Hosanna (Baloche/Brown)
Pretty much the hymns and Hillsong United stuff. I once saw Steve Fee lead Lifehouse's 'Everything' and it was amazing…
We recently sang 'Jesus Messiah' for the first time, and though I like the song on my iPod, it didn't work well at all in corporate worship.
I'm using "Everything" alot. If you tie it in to the end of "Here I am to Worship", it flows really well.
revelation song & it is well with my soul
revelation song. yes
by whom?
God of this City
Psalm 62 – Aaron Keyes::Cannons – Phil Wickham
…and from my iPod – King of All Days – Hillsong United
God of this City
Love Like Rain
God in Me – Daniel Doss Band

shout praise – israel houghton
i will run – misty edwards
eyes of zion – rick pino
When did any song begin to accelerate believers to a closer place with God? Worship is not about music. It is about honoring our Lord with our lives. Singing praises to Him is simply a small portion of our Worship and is focused on Him and not on us. I am surprised that so many believers are able to point to a specific song that accelerates them to a closer place with God.
thanks, but we get that, some times though God uses music. He has for a long time; it goes way back into the old testament and lives well into the new, it's not that we're making it about the song, but about the message, and the truth that the song reminds us of. Because honestly I forget sometimes that God is great, or about his marvelous light (into which I should be running) often times songs work because collectively as a whole body we have forgotten great truth's and mysteries about God. The worship leaders job is not to choose good songs that are epic or musically astounding but to choose songs that are going to remind the body about God, and to publicly declare his praise, glory, and honor and to "rally the troops" if you will into joining in with something thats bigger than them. Music is powerful for a reason, because God made it that way, and because we get to create and be like him in that manner, so again it's not about the songs you're right, but the songs are a part of it.
Mighty To Save
In Christ Alone
Cannons by philly wickham
Well I haven't experienced it live, but "The Desert Song" by Hillsong United has been super powerful for me lately. "Glory to God" always moves me towards Him in big ways too.
"Give Me Your Eyes"
I think Hosanna by Hillsong United really takes worship up a notch. At least at my church.
All I can Say by DCB
for the times that I am NOT on stage, it must be The Stand by Hillsong. That simply is one of the most powerful worship songs today, in my opinion.
Desert Song by Hillsong United
How He Loves Us
Falling Forward by Israel
Because Of Who You Are by Martha Munizzi
Be Thou My Vision… love it
Beautiful by Phil Wickham is one of my favorites.
Desire – Phil Wickham
Marvelous Light-because of the story it tells
From The Inside Out-because it's pretty much my story
A couple I'd like to hear one day:
Amazing by Stephen Hurd-"Your love is and everlasting love, Your grace is sufficent for us, Your truth leads us to freedom." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TErFnGVXjUU
The Very Same Power by Ricardo Sanchez
By the way the Glory to God with you on guitar and JDC on piano was awesome!
Stephen Hurd's "Amazing" has become a staple for my team. LOVE that song.
He is jealous for me, loves like a hurricane……..
Inside out
I surrender
Indescribable
From the Inside Out
"Worthy" off of New Life Worship's new album called Counting on God. Or pretty much anything on that album.
never heard of this guy.
Lead me to the cross
Surrender
Here I Am to Worship
A bit old school compared to some of the others mentioned here, but these are two songs that always touch me as I worship. They both have significant meaning as part of my personal faith journey and always remind me of God's presence in my life. They typically reduce me to a standing/kneeling tearful mess before it's through…
Reign In Us by Starfield
and
From the Inside Out by Hillsong

Jesus Paid It All and Revelation Song
Um, we don't have a band. And we sing hymns. But if we did, I've always been partial to "Drop-Kick Me Jesus Through the Goalposts of Life."
Seriously, "Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise" is a hymn that is making me think a lot lately.
How He Loves – by John Mark McMillan. Not that my in-person church worship leader has ever heard of it, but I desperately wish he would learn and lead it!
It's not a new one, but "Mighty to Save" has been great lately.
"True Love" – Phil Wickham
mighty to save and Jesus Paid it All
stronger by hillsong. first time i heard it was last sunday, and it was incredible.
Haven't heard it in person, but love it on the ipod. Our God Reigns.

"In Christ Alone" Newsboys
"You Are Good" Israel Houton
"Song for the Broken" C.J. Bergmen
Beautiful by Phil Wickham
have a heart for new ministries. thats what jesus would do. why won't you?
let me rephrase that. i see you on twitter and facebook and your blog and appreciate what you do, but why does it break my heart that you are so swallowed by top level skyscraper, corporate fixings? atlanta and its people… all about what money they have and what money they can charge someone for anything. and to believe that people pay it up like leeches. I'm sorry to sound like an anarchistist(? i'm sure thats not a word, but you get me) above you kinda person, but i want you to understand that alot goes on while the clouds beneath you roll by and you can't tell whats under them. check out the ground level happenings and come to our neck of the woods, where we would love to be able to participate in what you offer, or have a say in what you do, if we could only be seen or heard. my thinking is that i have a 90% chance of you ignoring or laughing my comments off,… but i also feel a 90% equal chance that i've gotten thru to you, at least enough to start a private debate via email. i know people will think i seem cowardly for not revealing my identity but its nothing to do with fear or pride. i just have a ministry that i don't want to suffer because of my strong feelings, and i dont want to open up to anyone that i have such strong resentments towards stuff like this. i pray everyday that Christ would soften my heart and help me understand that you and many others are making a living, doing what you're doing. but who am i do ignore my gut? hope to get that email. bless you brother.
I have no idea what you are talking about. That comment made no sense whatsoever.
We are talking about songs.
What are you talking about?
Genuinely confused.
Los
LOL Sorry to agree a little with your anonymous friend, Los, but I at least see where he/she is coming from. It may seem quite acrobatic, as far as interpretation, but I think what Anon. is trying to say is this: Judging from your coaching extravaganzas and photography and music gigs (which I personally find are amazing!), I see a lot less of a humbled, servant-minded, people person, like Jesus, and more of a strictly business, no time for the little people persona,…
But, note to Anon., that comes with not knowing someone personally. I'm assuming from Los' response to you, that you two don't know each other, and if you do, that may explain your anonymity. Regardless, Anon., understand that Mr. Whittaker has high-profile responsibilities, I guess you could say. Atlanta or not, lots of people have money and power,… lots don't. If that's your reasoning behind your comment, it's my prayer as well as yours that your heart is softened.
Carlos, understand where this person is coming from. I'm 45 years old and have seen alot over those years that tell me that, though humorous and somewhat truthful all the same, you should take into consideration what he/she really is trying to say.
I think I see someone who is simply having a hard time understanding why you're so successful and they're not. I don't really know what else to say,… it's late. My mind and myself are on somewhat of a vacation, so forgive me if I seem off-course. Just wanted to help you two sort it out.
God bless you all!
~G
i apologize for the post. i actually couldn't sleep tonite and was thinking about what i said. just got back on to say this when i noticed someone else had commented after you (los),… i was just having a very horrible day because i have nothing really and am uptight i guess about things. idk. who knows.
i apologize and would hope to have your forgiveness for wasting comment space.
Greg,
Success is defined differently.
Take one look at my bank account.
I quit my job.
I'm trusting God He will provide in a month when the paycheck is gone.
And if you see "a lot less of a humbled, servant-minded, people person, like Jesus, and more of a strictly business, no time for the little people persona,…"
It's because that is what you choose to see.
I would argue the opposite.
I spend time with the downcast much more than any others.
You just get to see me through 15" of LCD and cool graphics.
Anonymous, point taken and thanks for sharing!

Mighty to Save… every time… this morning we had a sort of folky (think bango & some nice TWANG) rendition of it and the words… just amazing.
love this song… we have written a pretty heavy arrangement for this one and I think i have a recording that was dubbed off a video camera from when our student worship team led it at camp… maybe you can use it as inspiration for your arrangement
__ holler at me if you want the mp3 cjohnson@eccc.us
Lead me to the cross
Just wondering.. perhaps I should try this on a different ouutlet but.. Aside from the guidance of the HS as each worship leader puts together the set list, do you guys think its ok -or not, to play songs with a 'dark background' or fallen authors like 'Healer' (Although the lyris are true and Biblical?
From the Inside Out- I've always loved that one. if ever I'm zoning out during song-time in service, and that song starts, I snap back to attention/worshipping faster than chuck norris could. i love the sense of desperation and longing that song has.
Shoot, I still love Marvelous Light
