I got my job at my church while I was a janitor at the church who happened to lead worship at the college group now and then. The worship pastor liked what he saw I guess and hired me to lead the band for the weekend services.

Neato! How did I end up working at my church?… well I grew up in it! I'm a product of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church's youth ministries. Been going there since I was in 2nd grade… you get the picture. One day they needed someone to hire part time to help coordinate people to run the sound boards and visual presentations in worship. So I was that guy… almost 6 years later + 1 college degree I'm a full-time employee that basically wrote his own job description! And I'm constantly changing it… haha. :)

Well, today was my last day working a temporary job as an interim kids program director for Liquid Church. I had gotten the job through lots and lots of volunteering (not that I was expecting the job, but it was definitely a great opportunity).

I love Liquid Church, and I’m so grateful for the time I had as part of such an amazing, innovative, and passionate team. I’m seriously going to miss working there.

Faith Search is getting the hook up. I got my current job by asking about a new church that was being started near my house. That came after my wife and I prayed for about 9 months for God to use us to help start a church in Baltimore, or move to an existing church in Baltimore that was all about reaching unchurched people. Easily one of the most clearly answered prayers of our lives.

Although at the moment, I am helping to plant a church.

I had never heard of LifeChurch.tv until Los posted a link (on twitter) to a Church Online experience on Christmas Eve. I loved the concept and kept going back for more. I eventually became a regular volunteer and then a team leader. When the position of Online Experience Coordinator came up, it was with excitement and trepidation that I submitted my resume.

I've been "on the job" for about 6 weeks and I'm still pinching myself. I'm so grateful to be doing this.

Got hired as the Youth Pastor then transitioned into the Worship Pastor which grew into the Creative Arts Pastor…almost ten years and still going strong at the same church

A staff member at Bethel Seminary suggested that I apply for this position. It wasn't on my radar for about 70 reasons, all of which were deal breakers. But I serve a God who is a man breaker, and he won, and I am here, and I am loving it, and we are thriving!

I was hired at this church the first time after working here as an intern pastor. I got hired here the second time because of the nearly 14 year relationship I had with the pastor and church.

I went thru http://www.churchstaffing.com (that was all while trying to finish up my degree and stuff too, alil stressful but landed in Nashville with a great church!)

My church is my home church. Grew up there and have loved and served her through thick and thin, goin’ on 30 years now. Started there as a volunteer helping with some transitions in the area of worship, fast forward 10 years and some blood sweat and tears, now full time staff leading the worship ministry and as director if communication. It hasn’t always been a bowl of Skittles, but to me my church is like family. Even when you’re ticked and frustrated an hurt by them at times, they’re still family. Stick it out fr the long haul, I say!

churchstaffing.com. Plus an exhausting 6 month interview process. It should not take that long!

I quit my job, my benefits, and my salary in 2005 to follow God’s calling to plant a church… Little did I know I’d be quitting life in a bigger city (West Palm Beach) and move to the booming metropolis of Spring Hill, FL!

In August of 2006 I teamed up with @paulcastelli and @bradklausman to launch Crosspoint Church! The pay was non-existent but the benefits are out of this world! (Thankfully 3 years later we are getting paid, but most importantly people are finding Jesus and it’s growing!)

One of my best friends helped to plant a church here in Abilene, TX. I left a church of 2500 + I was playing on the worship team with to come and play electric guitar with him. 2 years after my friend helped to begin the Church he left to pursue a career in music with his new band and I interviewed to be the Church's Worship Pastor. I started to 2 weeks ago! This has been a dream of mine and I'm excited to where God takes us! I also met my wife at this Church and she is now the Children's Director. http://www.journeyabilene.com

    i've worked for churches before…but i'm a freelance consultant now…

  24. Dave © 2 September 2009 at 3:41 am #

Late 2006. I had been self-employed as an independent business and technology consultant for about four years when I reluctantly accepted a full-time employee position with the company I was contracting with at the time. I really loved contracting and was making some great cash but my wife and I felt like maybe a full-time position would be good (simpler) for awhile since we were about to bring home our adopted daughter, Carmen, from Guatemala.

A little while after bringing Carmen home, we found out that she had a significant health issue that would require massive medical expenses for as long as she lives.

I always cringe just a bit when I hear someone say, "Oh, well that's why God did that," because I think comments like that attempt to shrink God down to our size, like we can possibly understand why God does everything He does. Maybe I'm doing the same thing here but I absolutely believe that God provided my current job three months BEFORE we brought Carmen home because we probably wouldn't have survived without the great health insurance that came with my job. Through my current employer, God provided GREAT health insurance that covers ALL of Carmen's nursing care, medical equipment, Hospice care, etc.

My current job is a frequent reminder that when I feel stuck doing one thing when I'd rather be doing something else (e.g. working for some great church organization like NPM or Mosaic), God is still working in me, through me…and mostly on me ('cause I need a lot of work!).

He knows what's best for me better than I do.

I don't have a job at a church, but am feeling the call and have been looking for one so I see the timing of this as a gift from God. Blessings, Los!!

We moved to NYC with no job, but God arranged pieces through miserable job interviews, 'random' meetings, and a movie-like run through the streets of New York to land me at my job. We were considering a retreat back to FL at the time.
