What Holds The Keys To Your Soul?
That deepest part of who you are.
That place where only 2 or 3 people hold the key to.
That place that when opened, time stands still and the world is yours.
Who, what, when, where, holds that key?
For me?
3 things.
1. El Debarge – Rythm of the Night
2. When Martha Stewart’s bang falls over her left eye.
3. sitting on a deck surrounded by aspens, being able to see my breath, a fire pit, my bride, my best friends, good drinks, shooting stars, and jr high romance stories.
Yea.
That’s the stuff.
What Holds The Keys To Your Soul?

1. Watching my kids wake up.
2. Singing songs, worshipping God.
3. Seeing the sun pierce through the morning fog.
hanging with my kids on saturday at soccer matches
teaching my children in youth group and on sundays
hanging with my wife watching tv and reading at night
Being alone with my horse, training him, riding in silence, or just watching him
When several things I've been working on in my mind all come together and I realize they're all connected in a beautiful way
Watching with my wife as our son grows up
Watching my husband come home from his Walk To Emmaus (just got home last night) and being able to tell that he's a different man. He's not talking too much, as I'm going next weekend, but God happened to him in a big way this weekend. I can see it in his eyes, feel it in his touch, sense it in his soul. Oh, my… his soul is my soul. I love that man!!
Okay, so that one was lengthy.
The other things are:
my children's laughter, seeing my kids interact with sweet friends, my bible study women's group, camp fires (and the way they make your clothes smell), the smell of freshly cut grass, coffee brewing and sipping it (especially on a cool morning on the screen porch), good wine, food & friends to share both, old friends that I know will always be friends, music, dancing, a good cry (prayers in liquid form), and finally….. when I feel the spirit move in a huge way during worship!
1. Being with family
2. Dreaming Sessions
3. Working at camp
4. Listening to great communicators. This helps me with No. 2
5. Drawing
When the sky is a perfect deep blue and there's the smell of woodsmoke in the air on a crisp fall afternoon.
The sound of my daughter's laughter when she's being tickled.
Having a full tank of gas and hitting the reset on the trip meter.
Oh man… thanks for reminding me about the rhythm of the night… what a great song. Love the freeze-frame fade-out at 2:52… a classic editing move that ought to be brought back.
1 – the open road
2 – snow skiing at 12,060 ft. in Winter Park, CO
3 – also a fire pit (anywhere) with good friends and good drinks
Man, you are going to have to explain the Martha Stewart thing???
1. when I get home and open the door, my 1 yr old son comes running, and my wife just peeks her head around the corner and says "Daddy's home".
2. the first guitar note of any Van Haken song
3. Walking upstairs to my office and see my 1952 000-18 Martin staring at me.
1. The humbling, overwhelming and amazingly beautiful feeling I get in church, especially on Easter Sunday and Christmas Eve.
2. Participating in charity events standing next to thousands of other people who are there, together as one for the same cause.
3. Volunteering. Especially with animals or children.
1- Me famillia
2- Vacations with my bride where we can wear little to no clothing
3- Chicago….come on…Peter Cetera just unlocks the depth of my heart!!

1. Quiet morning air while camping or at a cabin, etc. Fresh coffee, sunbeams, slippers & sweatshirts. If you're there with, you're gonna have to be thankful & a bit introspective!
2. Moments when the things "i love" all come together in one place & I'm able to step back and take a look. Sara Groves 'Every Minute' says it perfectly.
3. Serving with no strings attached…people just don't get that.
4. Arriving @ on a late flight at my parents old home @ Christmas. Dad takes my bags up while mom & I head straight for the tree. We sit there while I uninterruptedly chatter on…which is something I rarely let myself do…but it's a safe place so I let it roll.
1. When my baby girl smiles at me.
2. Writing thoughts in my notebook with a fine fountain pen.
3. U2 on vinyl.
My 3 yr old's belly-laugh.
My 3 month old's smile.
Regina by my side – sitting on warm white sand with the Caribbean at our feet.
And Van Halen – Dreams. Takes me back to Jr. High – no cares, skateboard under my feet, didn't care what anybody thought about anything.
1. sitting on the beach with my best friend in Seattle watching the sunset behind the mountains across the sound with a cool breeze blowing
2. Showing someone Jesus' love by making their day
3. Bonfires on crisp cool nights with a comfy sweatshirt and perfectly toasted s'mores
4. Great music, open sunroof, and the open road
1. Stars – I love driving in my parents yard (they live almost in the middle of nowhere) late at night and staring up at the sky all lit up with stars that seem to go on forever. Or even better, lying on the deck at camp, cuddled up with your two best friends at 3 am watching the sky light up with a meteor shower and being honest about yourself.
2. Bonfires – while I love bonfires in general, sitting around one at camp leading worship is something that can’t really be described.
3. Home – not even the place so much as the people. I don’t think I realized how much I loved it until I moved away for grad school, and I’m literally counting down the days until I head home at Christmas and get a hug from my mom and my best friend.
Seeing the kids i work with in my youth group finally understand the Gospel of Jesus Christ…..amazing
watching my kids live out their passions.
witnessing someone climb out of their pit.
1. driving at night with the windows down and my best friend by my side
2. hearing my little cousins yell my name as they come running toward me to give me a hug
3. seeing someone finally get it…that God loves them and wants to help them get through their pain
1. Listening to my two boys singing together in the back seat of the car.
2. The glow on my wife's face when I know that she is looking at me through eyes of deep love
3. Serving others
4. Staring at my hand watching my fingers slowly move. It amazes to think of everything that as to happen in the human body to make such a basic movement. Only God could make something so wonderful.
Childhood rejection
Redemption, abundant life
Lifting up tired arms

falling snowflakes lit by street lamps.
Sitting on the beach with my wife listening to the waves crash.
Nothing is more realizing or peaceful for me and I don't share it with anyone but her.
thanks for the reminder.
