You Will

Posted on 20. Sep, 2009 by loswhit in Mid Afternoon Distraction

In 1993, AT&T came out with a series of ads predicting what our future lives will hold.
Remarkably, most of what they imagined is now my life.

I wonder…
What do you think the biggest technological advancement of the next 15 years will be?
Los

PC gives upand Apple takes over the computer market, lol.

I am pretty sure that has already happened

Great post… its got me thinking about all of those things, most of which we take for granted now. As far as advancements go… I think that we are going to see a lot more automation in household tasks, as well as “auto-pilot” for cars. And lightsabers… I can dream right?

I agree. Probably more things that we lazy Americans dont have to do. Maybe we’ll see that nanny robot from The Jetsons in the next 15 years lol. Gotta say that would be sweet though.

I am still waiting for flying saucers for me to drive.

My comment hits on the future of technology in worship. I think that over the next 15 years will see the lines between geographical locations blur even more than we have over the past years. The use of multi-site technologies will grow leaps and bounds.

    THOUGHT
campus in US worshiping with campus in Japan with “virtual” simulcast of worship leader from US on stage in Japan and “virtual” simulcast of preacher in US… LET’S BRING THE WORLD TOGETHER IN WORSHIP…

I think the biggest leap will be the world wide acceptance of gas-less or near gas-less motor vehicles.

    The Continual User Interface: CUI
Basically think of having on the go access to information services in a visual and manipulative format. Touch screen without the screen… or the device.
    It’s Web 3.0

AI. Artificial Intelligence. Robots. The Terminators are coming!! ;-) Seriously, the stuff I’ve seen and read about regarding the advancements in the last few years alone are amazing. And a little frightening. The possibilities for machine and man to mesh are becoming more and more real and more and more scary. I think there will be lots of philosophical talk about the ethics, morals and the ramifications of it all over the next 10-15 years.

The hover board. If Michal J. Fox gets one, so should we.

I don’t know what the future holds, but I do like Tom Selleck narrating over a grooving instrumental of Solsbury Hill.

Technological advances are usually something we didn’t see coming…that being said, I think the lines between machines and biology will increasingly become blurred. i.e. Our bodies are unique and nearly impossible to duplicate so, less “cards” to scan and more “bio” scans., medicine will include more nano-technology for medicine release and bio-repairs, etc. The church must address the theological and ethical issues that arise as our advances in bio-technology increase.

I’m still waiting on hoverboards. AT&T hasn’t made any progress there.

will tom selek still be doing the voice over in the next 15 years?

also, i am happy that AT&T figured this out. now can they find a way to make my iPhone work in my kitchen?

Nokia recently released their “mixed reality” future-tech-lifestyle vision, essentially what AT&T did back in the day, we’ll see if they’re as accurate: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGwvZWyLiBU&feature=player_embedded

Apparently in the future women will wake up with perfectly done hair and make up. We will also have mugs that match the art in our bedrooms. WOW I CAN’T WAIT!!!!!

Seriously though most this stuff doesn’t seem that far off.

in 1993, the coolest things we had were my dad’s giant IBM computer (fully equipped with a floppy drive) and a bag phone in his car. i consider now, that i have my own computer i can carry in a small backpack and an iPhone that can do everything, just short of cooking dinner and washing my clothes. i am a little nervous to see what’s next… especially when i talk to my grandma who went from no running water and an outhouse and riding horses… to seeing a man walk on the moon… to having her own car… to getting a dishwasher… to a getting a cell phone… to getting the internet.

    it is batty.

Great for our current series “Vision”
    Thanks!

I watched 60 minutes last night (thats cool right?) and they were talking about the DEKA arm.
They are making huge advancements in prosthetics and able to now take your nerves that are left in your amputated arm and connect those to a prosthetic. Being able to move your prosthetic arm with a simple muscle flinch from the brain is now becoming a reality. I thought that was pretty awesome.

Also, inside the church we will have robot worship bands. No worries for people messing up or singing the wrong words, we got robots to take care of that.

I don’t know if I could have predicted where the church would have been now 10 years ago.

But 10 years in the future?

    - I see a couple giants of the church world becoming the McDonalds and Burger Kings of the world.
Multi site video venues of maybe 10 or so churches will start to dominate the spectrum. Most everybody will be going to a Northpointe, Life Church franchise. All you will need is maybe a local musician and a “Franchise Manger” (Pastor?)

-People in response to this will also engage in smaller more genuine communities (the local specialty restaurant) These will be more underground and will be a kickback to the Franchise church. Few will engage with these because the big franchises will be more readily available by location and online.

-Loss of face to face discipleship. I know Los is doing this to a degree with the Creative coaching thing. This could have its advantages and disadvantages. More availability but also some amount of detachment.

    Just some thoughts.

Wow. That’s amazing! You know, we forget about those ads when we’re actually living them out. As far as what I think will be 15 years from now? Probably more biotech interface.

I think it will be technology to help simplify the complexity that technology has introduced into our lives.

"sent someone a fax….from the beach" ahaha I love that the word "Email" wasn't even common. but hey, I was 3.

  26. evambrose 22 September 2009 at 4:31 am #

perhaps a lot of the voice activated and anatomical recognition devices for security purposes (thumbprint vs. passport). I remember those commercials though. I guess, whatever we'd consider technologically unbelievable – so maybe it's more the use of robotics?

3D Holograms replace video projection; "touch screen" keyboards on traditional computers/laptops; my son will land on Mars and make it back home in one piece; jet packs–alternative fuel use which will create a 3D traffic pattern–multiple passenger vehicles on ground(for now) and single person jet packs overhead. Bridges and underpasses will be interesting; virtual environment helmets/goggles for churches so worshipers can dial in their own lighting, stage design and volume/eq control thereby reducing any excuse for hindrance to worship in music. Am I missing anything? I kind of just impressed myself with these. I would like a light saber though.

That is really funny. AT&T…must have some prophets working in there. Chumps, they're not really responsible for even half those things coming to life.
