The World Doesn’t Need Another Famous Christian, It Needs You

Posted on 03. Oct, 2009 by loswhit in Religion

This week I’m going to be heavily involved at this conference.
It is called Catalyst.
It pretty much is the monster church leader conference in the states.
It is an inspirational, ministry changing event.
There are all sorts of people who show up at this event.
Those who want to be inspired.
Those who have an agenda.
Those who want to meet a famous Christian.
Those who want to be a famous Christian.
Those who have never heard of Andy Stanley.
Those who loudly hate on this conference yet secretly want to soak up every minute of it.
Those who are a second away from quitting ministry all together and this is the last resort.
And so many more…

Whoever you are, whatever your goals, I want to share a few things with you.
These 3 days can change everything about who you are. They really can.
But leave home your agendas and come as you are.
The world doesn’t need another Andy Stanley, Malcom Gladwell, Donald Miller, Matt Chandler, or Steve Fee.
The world needs you to be obedient in the local community you are a part of.
Now prepare your hearts to be challenged and changed and exponentially infused with God’s love.
Be yourself and come seeking God and this conference will work so much better.
Are You Coming?
Los

In others words….don't let Satan take over your identity as a child of good.
    Need that reminder daily.

Love this, Los! Awesome perspective we all need to remember. It's ALL about HIM! Thanks much, and I look forward to seeing you at Catalyst.

If it's the conference that's changing people in three days than I'm a little bit worried about it :S

If we truly knew Jesus' love than we wouldn't be changed by anything else because we would know our election and trust in him. :)

i’ll be there getting a piggyback ride from tyler stanton the entire time.

Been but cant say that it was all that great. I mean yeah the music was good. The teachings were funny and entertaining. The workshops were informative. The Marketing was NONSTOP! No real life change or ministry change was evident with me or anyone from our group that went. Basically we payed to get marketed to. Every teacher or speaker there mentioned his book or CD and please help support our ministry. Meanwhile those that actually belived and expected what was promised were let down. Sorry but Ill pass for now,

    • loswhit 4 October 2009 at 1:16 pm #

      no need to be sorry.
      Different strokes.

    • loswhit 4 October 2009 at 2:36 pm #

      no need to be sorry

Good word… but hard to follow. Most of the time I've gone to conferences because I wasn't happy with the "me" I was being. I don't seem very successful in reaching lost people, building relationships, and so on being "me." All my life I've wanted to be someone else.

    Great post Los!
Good reminder. Its a bummer that we have created a culture where everyone wants to settle for someone else’s life and their dreams. When God wants to birth something way bigger in the them. I had lunch with Erwin McManus at Cracker Barrel of all places and walked way knowing three things. 1. He is amazing guy. 2. I need to follow my dreams. 3. I don’t want his life or his ministry. (Most of us want what we think some one else has, until we realize the price they are paying to live that life and the hurts and pains that come along with it. ) Looking forward to a week in the ATL.

Now I will be hitting up the u2 show before Catalyst, I would not mind being Bono, he is speaking truth to the church that most pastors don’t have the guts to say on Sunday morning….and he has amazing shades all of the time. That has to be worth something.

I am now. A friend of a friend was not able to make it and now I am able to go to the conference that opened my eyes to new opps last year. I am expecting God to really move in my life through this conference. I look forward to what will happen to everyone that attends. This is where ideas are dreamed, it is also where ideas are realized.

I will be there… first time at Catalyst. Coming with our staff team and preparing to be rocked by all we get to hear, see and take-in. See you there Los…

I am coming. 1st time to Catalyst.
Realized I need to learn about church leadership even though I am not a "pastor".
Getting sort of nervous about it all.
Still remain excited about what Jesus is going to teach me.
Hoping to get to meet you and give you TN style hug.

I pray the Lord prepares all of us for what awaits in the following days.

i don’t think everyone who calls themselves a christian is meant to be a star.
99% of us are called to be just be normal. to be faithful where we are, to be honest and kind and generous. to love God with all our hearts, souls and mind. and occasionally throw our nets on the other side of the boat. i don’t think the christian community lacks dreamers, i think we lack faithfulness.
do they talk about that at catalyst?

  23. Catherine 6 October 2009 at 9:57 am #

There’s a Catalyst West Coast??? Let me at it! When??

  24. Catherine 6 October 2009 at 9:59 am #

I think i would feel like I have really done a great thing for God’s Kingdom if I could just say one thing, one time that causes someone to come to Christ. I don’t need to be famous. Just used by God.

  25. Bonnie Irving 7 October 2009 at 9:53 am #

I just want to go to be inspired and get the Tools that I need to be Used by God and Become All He wants me to be! I have really been thinking about this… I have Felt Strangely Drawn By the Strong Desire to Attend this Conference, and I have really been wondering why, Because I am Not a Pastor, and Though i have Been in Leadership (lay) Positions @ my church. I have never been on Staff @ a Church. although i have somewhat of an idea of what it is that i am called to be.. I do know its huge and its been a long time in Preparing, so I want to be equiped as possible.

Thanks for the great reminder Carlos! So hard to be content, I think.

I can’t make it to Catalyst, but hit Cat West this year – my first Catalyst experience. Wow – I came away refreshed with great soul food and much hope in what God is doing in the local church nowdays. Its an exciting time to be a pastor. Somehow I seem to go to conferences like Catalyst forgetting just how huge the Kingdom is. I always come away feeling appropriately small and I’m grateful for that
