Give Somebody Back Their Dignity – Help Portrait

Posted on 15. Nov, 2009 by loswhit in Culture, Photography

So you know about a year ago I endeavored into a new love…
Photography.
Not my own…but others.
I have fallen in love with the shots of old friends like Leah Vis, Daley Hake, Trevor Hoehne, and new friends like Jasmine Star, Promise Tangeman, and Jeremy Cowart.
Jeremy is a part of something really spectacular I wanted to tell you about…
It is called Help-Portrait and the skinny is this…
It’s a movement of photographers, coming together in every major city, to use their photography skills to give back to the community. On December 12th, photographers around the world will be grabbing their cameras, finding people in need, and taking their picture. When the prints are ready, the photographs get delivered.
Yep.
It really is that easy.

So. Do you take pictures? Would you think about giving a gift of a picture to someone who might not ever have one of his or her family?
You don’t need to be a rock star photographer. Just someone with a heart to give…hope.

Jeremy hit me up to share this with you guys and at first, honestly, I had no clue how this could “help somebody”.
Until I watched this…

I am going to be a part of this…
Will you?
Give someone back their dignity on 12.12.09…
Los

I am in. And my church, being as awesome as it is, is in as well. I will use their facilities on December 12, to do some portraits for single mom’s. There are two women that work for Mary Kay that are going to be doing makeup and I am going to enlist my small group to do this as the yearly ministry project each group gets involved in for the Christmas season.

That is such a cool idea! I love it when people find ways to use skills we wouldn’t normally consider service skills to do good.

Thanks for the heads up. Sharing with my photographer friends. I love when people get these cool ideas and figure out how to pull them off. I’m just not that bright.

I do not know if anyone reading this is from STL. But on Thanksgiving my family and I are doing a Thanksgiving Day Luncheon for the community and those that do not have anywhere to go on thanksgiving. I think it would be cool if we could have some photogs there to take some pics. Would be a cool idea to be apart of.

Oh my goodness…I am in no way a professional, and have no funds to print the pictures, but I have a great camera and I’m going to make some calls tonight to try and get the funds and do this!! I bought the camera with our tax refund money last year and have been praying that God could use it to His Glory…prayer answered!! Thank you so much!

Wow. I’m not the greatest photographer, but I wonder if we can set this up at our church or something. That’s fantastic.

Another awesome opportunity is NILMDTS.com. Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep offers free pictures to families who just lost a child. Heart-wrenching and too difficult for some photographers, but a ministry, a mission, a gift. Check ‘em out. They are on Facebook too. Hats off, Los! Rocking work there.
