Help Me With My EP Cover // BE THE CRITIC

Posted on 18. Nov, 2009 by loswhit in Worship Leading

An EP’s purpose is to start building the story on who you are as an artist.
Then we drop the full length album on your head.
There are 3 different directions we are going here.
Here are the ideas…

ROUND2Coverf
1. This is the tormented ragamuffin soul in the midst of a heavenly place.
I feel like that is who I am. Tormented but in peace.

BoothRedg
2. The major reasons why I get invited to lead worship places is not becasue of my vocal runs. It is because I quickly build trust in a room of people and they trust me to take them on a journey towards The Throne. And when I do it…I laugh and have fun. I’m the happy hype worship dude.

writeRedg
3. Saul’s Conversion tat in the forground with me blurred in the background writing.
Um. That’s it.

So…What speaks to you and why?
What doesn’t speak to you and why?
Rip them apart and build them up.
Remember…I’m an artist.
So give me a compliment sandwich…
;)   You have till tomorrow afternoon so retweet and ask your friends and grandmothers…
Remember…EP…Not full length album
ready…set…talk…

    No way to number one!
number 2 mehh – so so.
Number 3 is da business. Very cool.

  2. LeAnn 18 November 2009 at 2:51 pm #

Carlos, I love the 2nd and 3rd. Probably the 2nd the most. The 3rd has a unique artistic quality…but I still think the 2nd’s my fav. Happy for you~ To God be the glory!

    ~LeAnn

  3. Amanda Sims 18 November 2009 at 2:52 pm #

I don’t really like #1 because it seems to dull and for you.
I like #2 because it shows your love for life and fun.
I like three because it speaks to of your passion & intensity. (But that candle in the background…well, it’s shape….um, possibly inappropriate.)

SO definitely not the first one. Leaning toward the second right now.

  4. Brian Certain 18 November 2009 at 2:53 pm #

I like the last one the best. I think that it reflects you spirit and heart more

  5. Amy 18 November 2009 at 2:53 pm #

    OK, critic hat on…
2nd or 3rd for sure. Preferably 2nd. Or 3rd. Or maybe 2nd. 1st looks tortured in a confused kind of way. The title in the 2nd or 3rd is a little confusing though . It reads Carlos “Ragamuffin Soul” Whittaker as if it’s your middle name.

    OK, critic hat off…
I like the idea of all of them. The photography and design is beautiful!!

  6. Isaac Downing 18 November 2009 at 2:53 pm #

1st pick is #1. I like the type treatment used on it.

If you could use the fonts from #1 on #2, I’d vote for that one instead… but everyone knows it’s all about the fonts, man.

  7. Natalie 18 November 2009 at 2:53 pm #

#3. I like the tat. I like the font treatment. I like the overall feel.

  8. J Parker 18 November 2009 at 2:54 pm #

    # 2 for sure

  9. loswhit 18 November 2009 at 2:54 pm #

    Isaac. you are correct.

  10. Bryce Wolfe 18 November 2009 at 2:55 pm #

    #3 is LEGIT…book it danno!!!

  11. Lori 18 November 2009 at 2:56 pm #

I like the third one for sure!

  12. Nick 18 November 2009 at 2:56 pm #

I like #2 & #3. I’d probably pull for #3 since there are already about a million EP covers with the artists face looking at you, either seriously or joyfully (like yours). #3 is unique.

  13. Andy Denen 18 November 2009 at 2:56 pm #

i like one simply because in your own words, it fits you. but i think number three ALOT because i always pictured the authors of the bible writing the texts in a setting just like that. their writing utensil in a candlelit room, with nothing but their thoughts and life changing words flowed from their hearts and minds.

plus, the tattoo in the foreground is stellar.

  14. Clay 18 November 2009 at 2:56 pm #

No on #1. Almost looks painful.
#2 is pretty good, though it might be a little too close up.
#3 is awesome. Sets a good mood with the light in the background, has intimacy but not too much. As an introduction I think it works well.

    Just my $0.02.

  15. Shellie (baylormum) 18 November 2009 at 2:58 pm #

Not 1. Way too “scary” looking. So many people have serious issues with “church”. No. 2 shows your excitement & passion! No. 3 is good is you’re going after the biker crowd. I think until people get to know Carlos (Los) and understand the story of the tats I would wait. I know they are a part of your testimony & life. I am not against tats! Just don’t want you judged by your tats if people can’t really understand them.

  16. Danae Lehman 18 November 2009 at 2:58 pm #

I like the 2nd one…..It draws you in and you look like someone that you “meaning us “would want to get to know

  17. Brook James 18 November 2009 at 3:00 pm #

I would have to agree with most everyone on #1. Doesn’t seem like you (as if I know you). I think I vote #2. #3 is good too, but it would be my second choice. I think #2 just has the real @loswhit all over it (literally)!

  18. Evan 18 November 2009 at 3:02 pm #

    I pick #2.

  19. Liz 18 November 2009 at 3:06 pm #

    No way on #1.
I like number 2 & 3 the most, and would likely lean towards #2, but I think #3 is perfect for an EP!

  20. TJ Goff 18 November 2009 at 3:06 pm #

The first one looks like you’re confused. I like the picture and design of the second one but the last two make it look like your nickname is Ragamuffin Soul. Use the second one but move the title under your name.

  21. Michael Buckingham 18 November 2009 at 3:06 pm #

No questions, close the polls…number 3. Ok, maybe 2…depends on the music. Gotta hear the music to match the art.

  22. Jason 18 November 2009 at 3:06 pm #

#3 wouldn’t mind seeing it w/ a few different type treatments…but definitely the #3 image

  23. Krissy Leigh 18 November 2009 at 3:07 pm #

    carlos,
i love the 3rd one, but maybe with different text/color scheme.

    :)

  24. paulkordon 18 November 2009 at 3:07 pm #

My vote = #3 first #2 second. Throw #1 away!

  25. Tami 18 November 2009 at 3:07 pm #

While I like the look of #1, that’s not the guy who jumps around on stage.
#2 is TOTALLY the guy who jumps around in boots on Sunday mornings but it doesn’t show your passion, just your fun!
#3 is my favorite. It really speaks of the author/creative side of you and the edgy yet peaceful side as well.

  26. Lori Jo 18 November 2009 at 3:08 pm #

numero 3 is my first choice.
there is something not right about number one. maybe it’s the fonts…i do not like the fonts or word placement. it’s the fonts. yucky.
    i like #2 second. :D

  27. Jill 18 November 2009 at 3:08 pm #

#2 for sure. it makes me happy to see it.
think about oprah….she has a big smile on all of the covers of O. and she’s pretty successful ;-)

  28. Krissy Leigh 18 November 2009 at 3:10 pm #

    carlos,
the 3rd one dude..but maybe choose a different font/color scheme…it takes away from the depth of the photo. :)

  29. Lori Jo 18 November 2009 at 3:10 pm #

(#1 fonts aren’t masculine enough…i think. it’s not urban enough)

  30. Conner Byrd 18 November 2009 at 3:10 pm #

Um…Tim McGraw already did #1 and did it better I’m afraid :) Hahaha. Seriously though that one just doesn’t seem to convey well with what I think of when I think of “Ragamuffin Soul.”

2 or 3 has to be it. My reason for conflict is that I ABSOLUTELY love #3 but listening to the 2 singles I think it should be #2. Seems to fit the mood better.

  31. Bethany 18 November 2009 at 3:10 pm #

From the 2 songs you’ve posted, #2 looks like it would fit the feel/sound.

I like #3 as well, but agree with the suggestions for a more subdued font.

  32. jamie 18 November 2009 at 3:10 pm #

#2 for the front cover with #3 as back cover of a non-glossy digipak

  33. margojean 18 November 2009 at 3:11 pm #

i’m going with the 2nd.. the others are great too but number 2 has my vote.

  34. caleb 18 November 2009 at 3:11 pm #

#3 with different font & text size

  35. Rhys 18 November 2009 at 3:11 pm #

Love #3!!!!!!!! That is Los, screams Ragamuffin Soul. (very artistic too) #1 looks like a jim gaffigin (sp?) rip off of King Baby, and #2 you’re just to happy. Lol

    Def #3!

  36. charlie_esc 18 November 2009 at 3:12 pm #

#2!!!!! but I agree, too much of a close up!!! now, if picture number 2 was on cover #1 then maybe #1… #3 looks more for a book…maybe for your book cover!!! Many blessings bro!!! :0]

  37. Renee Garcia 18 November 2009 at 3:12 pm #

I like #3.. do I have to have a reason?? LOL I just like that one best… it looks… scholarly or deep… or something. I don’t know. I would just be drawn to that if I were browsing. Whichever you choose, I want one! :)

  38. Matthew Daniel 18 November 2009 at 3:13 pm #

3rd with different text arrangement! Congrats!

  39. Jimbob Brown 18 November 2009 at 3:14 pm #

The font on 1 is nice and clean, but 2 totally captures the way you want to feel when listening to music, and captures what you are going for on stage like you said, being happy and fun.

  40. amy sanders 18 November 2009 at 3:15 pm #

when i look at the three of them and who i know you to be…one is out. too scary.
#2–well, i love it. it reeks of authentic joy. and isn’t that the heart of a ragamuffin’s soul?
#3–is good, but honestly, it doesn’t seem like you. do you sit and write like that? maybe if you had your mac out typing a new song with a camcorder capturing the whole process of writing it would seem more like you. :)

  41. Josh Brickey 18 November 2009 at 3:16 pm #

As a graphic designer, my personal preference for an EP would be 2 or 3, probably 3. Being picky, I wonder what 3 would look like with all of the text aligned to the right side? Small change but a different vibe that may or may not work.

That being said, I like 1 the best as a full release cover but not as an EP.

  42. Bill Whitt 18 November 2009 at 3:16 pm #

I like the second the best because it captures your personality the best… and the spirit of the songs that are included on the EP the best.

  43. Nolan Bobbitt 18 November 2009 at 3:17 pm #

number 3 is amazing…don’t do anything else but tweak it (font)

  44. Kyle Reed 18 November 2009 at 3:17 pm #

#2 I love the thought behind number 2. Because you are right, what attracts people to you is your personality (and you can take that as a fat joke if you want, you have a good personality). You make people feel unthreatned and invited. But, it looks like someone took a pic from the web and tried to turn it into album art.
So, I love the thought behind it, but maybe a different pic.

I really like number 1, but I also really like #3. If I had to choose I would go with #1 because you look like a bad mother f that has just poured his heart into the music and is now ready to punch you in the face with goodness.
    Just my 2 cents

  45. luke macdonald 18 November 2009 at 3:19 pm #

    100% no. 2.

that seems to be most accurate to who you are & has a nice edge to it.

  46. Phil Thompson 18 November 2009 at 3:19 pm #

#2 is the strongest first impression – #3, deepest… artistically I like #3, marketing sense #2 takes it

  47. JoshuaCreative 18 November 2009 at 3:19 pm #

Wow, brave of you to open up design crit to the masses. #3 has the most of what you are and do—I see in it your passion (focused), writing (worship) and the tat, as you mentioned. Someone else already pointed out, the type doesn’t quite fit with the image yet…the two could be integrated a bit more. Don’t forget, since I like the “other side” of your personality in the photo from option #2 that you have other panels to flush out the rest of your sides in other areas of this project, or online—that this covershot, while foundational as a 1st impression—lives inside the context of all else you do. It doesn’t (necessarily) get judged alone or by itself.

    Good luck and God bless!
    Josh

  48. Sean Palmer 18 November 2009 at 3:20 pm #

    number 3 dude. number 3 is a face-melter.

  49. Lauren 18 November 2009 at 3:20 pm #

I don’t like 2 at all…seems kind of “cheesy” if you will. I really love number 3. It’s artistic and I love the story behind your tat. I like number 1 a lot too though. Number 1 is a little harsher so maybe not the best choice, but I like it. I’d say go with number 3. From what I know of you from your blog, this is most like you. You are writing, like you wrote your music. Your tat, period. And the artistic nature of it is awesome!

  50. Anne Marie 18 November 2009 at 3:23 pm #

    #2 or 3

  51. snyderguy 18 November 2009 at 3:25 pm #

Funny thing, I kinda agree about the candle being questionable on #3. Other than that, it’s the hands-down choice. I would also put the title above your name, instead of splitting it.

    Ragamuffin Soul
    Carlos
    Whittaker

Your use of Ragamuffin always makes me think of Rich Mullins and the Ragamuffin Band.

  52. D. Lake 18 November 2009 at 3:25 pm #

    #2 – that’s the junk to me.

Number three? Artsy but not buying that. If you had a computer in front of you … that’s my perception of you writing. Not buying the pencil paper writer. That’s just me.

  53. Becky 18 November 2009 at 3:29 pm #

#1. No. Just, No. Did nothing for me at all.
    #2. I loved it! Until… I saw #3

#3 I really loved. For some reason the candidness of it pulled me in. It seems more genuine(not that you aren’t genuine.) It’s like you are sharing something with the world rather than trying to sell something.

    That’s just my opinion!

  54. promise tangeman 18 November 2009 at 3:31 pm #

    number 2 yo.

  55. katie stratton 18 November 2009 at 3:31 pm #

    # 2 or # 3 … I don’t know why, I’m not an artist, but if I were at a cd store I’d take a second look at # 2 because you’re so happy and # 3 because you look creative there, but I wouldn’t look twice at the first one for some reason

  56. JB 18 November 2009 at 3:33 pm #

    Definitely #2!
Love the non-emo cover. Don’t like frowns on a worship album.

  57. brian wurzell 18 November 2009 at 3:33 pm #

I, along with my wife, pick #2. My theory is…the bigger your grill on that cover…the better. :) I really like the way #2 depicts your character. If people had the chance to really ‘know’ you, they’d find that you’re a pretty smiley guy…that doesn’t take everything so serious…which is what #3 says (all business).

    Anyways…#2 or go home sucka

    Peace

  58. Texas in Africa 18 November 2009 at 3:37 pm #

I like #1 because it’s calm and straightforward. #3 doesn’t really seem like you, at least not the you you present here. The red font on #2 and #3 makes me feel like I’m looking at a DC Talk album circa 1989. And reliving sixth grade is not something I want to do. :)

  59. Lita aka Grandma 18 November 2009 at 3:37 pm #

I’m going to get buried under all of this comments.
#1 No You are too serious.
#2 This is who you are
#3 Maybe this one for your book cover.

    Love you Babe, Mom

  60. PJ Towle 18 November 2009 at 3:38 pm #

    3. I could see it on the rack at Starbucks…

  61. promise tangeman 18 November 2009 at 3:44 pm #

    oops i forgot to explain.
Number one looks to angel-like… not enough energy for who you are. Light colors are often seen as soft, quite, serious. Centered typography often depicts the words “organized, serious, conservitive”. not who you are.

number 2 represents YOU so much. FUN, energetic, creative, colorful, in your face and lots of texture (Hair/beard, fabric behind, distressed type, smooth skin.. very nice contrast). I like the heirarchy of text. makes it interesting and off beat a little… again VERY YOU!!

number 3 looks emo, ancient, and old. you are not a man of yesterday. You are TODAY! It also makes it seem that you are a quite poetry writer. and thats not you either. sorry. :) hope this helps.

  62. Jessica Eveland 18 November 2009 at 3:49 pm #

Number two – engaging picture but looks a little forced – but from your videos and blog I know that is sincere. Would someone not familiar with blog/videos be able to see that?
Number one – so over the tortured worship leader thing
Number three – by far the most appealing to me. Not forced or put on in anyway. Looks more candid and creative

  63. Josh Wagner 18 November 2009 at 3:54 pm #

For me, I love number 3. Artistic, real, cool. I’d buy that (based on the cover) more than the other two.

  64. Gabriel Spence 18 November 2009 at 3:58 pm #

the type on #1 is cool
photo on #2 is the best.
i think since it is an EP, basically your first introduction to people your pic should be happy not cold.

  65. Joan Ball 18 November 2009 at 3:58 pm #

I would like #1 best if the background went from a light blue wash to either a a grey or a sepia wash instead. It brands you not the album title, which I think is a good marketing decision. Love the photo in #3, but the font (colors, size and orientation on the cover) make it look like 1) you are trying too hard to be edgy and 2) you are branding Ragamuffin Soul rather than yourself.

  66. Amy Storms 18 November 2009 at 3:58 pm #

    2 or 3. Not 1. 3 is my favorite, but 2 works, too.-You have nice teeth. :)

  67. Jonathan 18 November 2009 at 4:02 pm #

I’m going with #3 (LOVE it!) , but #2 is a close second

  68. Molly 18 November 2009 at 4:02 pm #

    number 2.
out of the three choices that one IS you.
(as far as those of us in this community “know” you)

  69. Violet 18 November 2009 at 4:06 pm #

#1 is too quiet, #2 is too loud, #3 is just riiiiiight.

  70. traebrogdon 18 November 2009 at 4:14 pm #

    i think:
#1 is too heavenly. and tho i’m sure your ep will be just that it seems too soft and sweet. and like the words are floating above you like a baby angel and you’re afraid it might poop on you.

#3 is amazing..but if you go with it consider changing the font to fit the shot..maybe a distressed script font..maybe for at least the title/ragamuffin soul part. but i’m with mrs. lita and say this would be a pretty sweet book cover..may wanna save it.

#2 is my pick. i think it’s the most well known shot of you..also depicts your description of yourself.. i coulda never met you and would still probably trust the guy in that shot. one suggestion…like someone already mentioned, the title appears more like a nickname than a title. that’s actually what i thought at first. maybe swap the placement?

  71. Keith 18 November 2009 at 4:16 pm #

    definitely not 1

I could see 2 as a 2nd full length cover

    3 is it!

  72. mandythompson 18 November 2009 at 4:16 pm #

    #2 please – it’s you.

#1 is too weighty. Maybe use it when you drop the full album.

    #3 is too… Steven Tyler meets C.S.Lewis. Tats & candles don’t make sense together, unless it’s a creepy ritual…

  73. Jenni Clayville 18 November 2009 at 4:19 pm #

    my vote is #2.
    #1 looks like you’re pumping a grumpy.
    #3 creeps me out.

    that’s all i got.

  74. dave miers 18 November 2009 at 4:22 pm #

    #3 is dope

  75. dave miers 18 November 2009 at 4:22 pm #

ps – i think dope is a hip-hop way of saying ‘very good’

  76. Andy 18 November 2009 at 4:27 pm #

#3 but with a different font treatment. The distressed font look is starting to get played out.

  77. Lita 18 November 2009 at 4:34 pm #

#1 is nice but boring (sorry)so that would be a NO
#2 is fun but too candid, i do like it but not my favorite for an album cover
#3 is the one in my book….it looks so creative!!!!

  78. Steve 18 November 2009 at 4:41 pm #

3 jumped at me immediately. I don’t really know you, but what I do know OF you, I think it represents you the best. And, having listened to a couple of songs, I feel it best represents the music.

  79. Jill 18 November 2009 at 4:49 pm #

I like #2 the best – very you. But, I also really like #1 after reading what you wrote about it. Just my thoughts. Excited for you!

  80. Brian Alexander 18 November 2009 at 4:51 pm #

I like number 3 because it shows that you’ve wrote the songs yourself. Shows your personality a lot. I love the font as well.

  81. Marcus Naugler 18 November 2009 at 4:52 pm #

los – my brother, I think #3 is the ticket. Here’s why… you have a story to tell, not just in song, but through your life as well and that comes through your voice as God reveals it to you. If you want people to get to know you and trust you as you lead them in worship, they’ve got to build relationship with you, even if it’s through web 2.0 and EP covers. Tell us, show us, paint for us, the story of the God we serve. Your pen – his power. Your soul – His Spirit. Your rags – his riches. Knock it out, bro!

  82. Lori Jo 18 November 2009 at 4:53 pm #

promise is very convincing. i’m moving to number dos. rhymes with los ;]

  83. jerel law 18 November 2009 at 4:57 pm #

I’ll take a shot here. First of all they all could really really work. I don’t know you personally, so I’m just going on the vibe from tweets and your blog. With that in mind I say #2. It’s open and inviting and says a lot about the joy of Christ in your life. It is what my impression is of who you are, for whatever that’s worth.

Save the photo of #3 for the cover of album 2. I love it. But for some reason those two together look like that…the 1st and 2nd albums. God bless brother.

  84. Lori Zimbardi 18 November 2009 at 4:57 pm #

#1 – too cloudy, heavenish and monkish. Maybe if you were singing chants…not saying chants are bad. Not saying clouds, heaven or monks are bad just not my favorite.
#2 – love your smile and that is the Carlos we know and love but maybe too shiny happy up with people-y. Not a big one but I also did say to myself when I first looked at it, hey I think that is the blue couch they used to have in their banners and I don’t know if that even matters but it was my first response. I really like it and think it is so you. Friendly, approachable & happy.
#3 – artistic and cool. I love it focused on the tattoo and then blurred. My vote is #3.

  85. Cindy Beall 18 November 2009 at 4:59 pm #

I like #2 because you don’t look all bug-eyed like you often post pics of yourself.

    Just sayin’.

  86. Rachel 18 November 2009 at 5:00 pm #

To be completely honest I don’t like number one, it may be a good depiction of tormented in peace, but it’s kind of like you are pissed off. I’m leaning towards number two, from what i’ve read of you and your life (thank you for sharing!!) this seems to be you! yes there are the tormented moments, but this one is happy, and more inviting! number three is good too, contemplative, and peaceful. but i still think my vote is for number two!
Can’t wait for the album to come out!

  87. EdwardLife 18 November 2009 at 5:02 pm #

As I scrolled I thought meh immediately on #2, two my eyes popped.. #3 is the ‘well that is pretty cool too’. If you had all 3 on the shelf side by side in “limited edition, collect all 3″ I’d reach for #2 first and think “that’s a guy I wanna hear out of.. he’s having a blast.

    So go make #2 happen!

  88. Jay 18 November 2009 at 5:05 pm #

Number 1 would be good if you were releasing melancholy country songs.

Number 2 is good, but I’ve seen it so often.

Number 3 strikes just the right chord (no pun intended). There’s no obvious expression of any emotion but the contemplative look of a song writer.

    Definitely number 3.

  89. craig 18 November 2009 at 5:14 pm #

i love the art/thought/design behind all of them, seriously! – but if i can be really honest, i don’t think i can do one more project with a worship leader’s mug on the front…on the back? cool? maybe it’s just me, but it communicates “it’s about me” too much…isn’t it all about Him? and i do, however, love your mug, of course, as much as any adult hetero male can love the mug of another adult hetero male…

  90. Steven 18 November 2009 at 5:18 pm #

My vote is #3 my brother.

As for why, I like the tat. It is you. And your story. And so much more. It creates conversation. They ask about the tat, you tell them it is Saul’s conversion, you get the chance to either (a) explain how that story is your story if they are familiar with it or (b) share scripture with them if they are not familiar with it.

    A win/win.

  91. Chris Meirose 18 November 2009 at 5:25 pm #

    #3. It’s less about you.

  92. Michael Mears 18 November 2009 at 5:27 pm #

Definitely #3. #1 too cliche. Pretty typical cover for a not so typical worship leader. #2 is decent. Not a bad choice. But #3 because it is the least focused on you yet still introduces you. A good balance without you or your name being central.

  93. Chris Meirose 18 November 2009 at 5:28 pm #

And how about using that old dirty cowboy font you used to have on your blog? Loved that font.

  94. Amy Cathy 18 November 2009 at 5:29 pm #

    #2 – that’s how i picture you…so it’s my fave.

  95. Jason 18 November 2009 at 5:30 pm #

    Carlos-
Definitely #2 or #3. Better type treatment, and speaking as a photographer – the images tell a more engaging story.
Can’t wait to hear the EP when it drops.

  96. Bianca Juarez 18 November 2009 at 5:34 pm #

Number 2 or 3. Depends on the sound of the EP :)

  97. Jessica 18 November 2009 at 5:38 pm #

    I think #3

  98. janie 18 November 2009 at 5:43 pm #

my favorite is #3…it’s unique….#2 is totally YOU….#1 no way. makes you look Caucasian. :)

  99. Russ Hutto 18 November 2009 at 5:44 pm #

I’d say number 2 or 3, but maybe with a less distressed font.

  100. Trish McKenzie 18 November 2009 at 5:44 pm #

NOT number 1. Definitely 2 or 3, but I’m having trouble deciding between those two.

  101. Jenn 18 November 2009 at 5:50 pm #

My favorite is #2; I think it shows you passion for life. #1 looks way to painful, and #3 is cool but I don’t envision you writing with pen by candlelight but with a lap top in Starbucks!

  102. Michael 18 November 2009 at 5:52 pm #

#1…I don’t like the feel of it, but based on what you said about it…if that is you, then I could see why you would lean towards that one
#2…I just don’t like this one…don’t know what I would think if I saw that in person
#3…I like #3 but don’t like the type treatment, but I like the feel of 3 better than the other 2…1 doesn’t seem to stand out too much but I like the type better on that one than on 3
    anyway, my two cents
and your song “rain it down” has been stuck in my head for days…awesome song, can’t wait for the CD!!

  103. Stephanie 18 November 2009 at 6:02 pm #

#1 makes you look like an angel… too much white and cloudy and just… no.

#2 speaks very loudly to who I perceive you to be from afar. It’s an album cover that would jump out at my in my itunes “recommended for you” list.

#3 is just okay for me. i love the idea of putting your tat on the cover, because it speaks volumes about your story. BUT, your smile is money. and i agree with Jenn. i just don’t see you writing by candlelight. does anyone?

  104. steph 18 November 2009 at 6:02 pm #

    #3
    (#1′s been overdone)

  105. lateeda_mike 18 November 2009 at 6:05 pm #

2 has great energy, is engaging and make me want to hear it. 3 would be great for the back cover

  106. Joy2 18 November 2009 at 6:45 pm #

Number 3 is the best. You look like you’re doing some soul searching. Definitely do not use #1. #1 looks like you’ve lost your soul and don’t know where to find it. #2 is nice but #3 is definitely better.

  107. Fay 18 November 2009 at 6:54 pm #

2nd or 3rd and i’m leaning towards the 3rd. i like photo on the first cover but the entire pic w/ the beach in the background is much cooler and shouldn’t be restricted to a teeny tiny square (if it’s from the series of pics you posted a while back).

  108. Rodlie Ortiz 18 November 2009 at 6:58 pm #

I’m feeling number two. Seems positive and upbeat. The others seem a little depressing looking.

  109. lisa 18 November 2009 at 6:58 pm #

    number 3 for sho!

  110. ksummerall 18 November 2009 at 6:58 pm #

#3 – has that “I’m different and I like” kind of quality, it is unique – go for it!

  111. Kellsc 18 November 2009 at 6:59 pm #

#1 looks like you might be ready to cut someone

#2 is the guy on Sunday morning, who loves what he’s doing and makes you want to love it too, definitely gets my vote

#3 Very introspective & sensitive looking but I don’t know that it draws you in saying “buy me, so you can listen to me” however, it is very unique from everything out there

Fonts could use some work but the pic is what sells it

  112. Matt Parsons 18 November 2009 at 7:02 pm #

    I like # 1 the best

  113. Brandi 18 November 2009 at 7:09 pm #

#1 if you’re trying to reach the *ahem* community. slap some angel wings & eyeliner on you & you’re all set. :)

    #2 is the most you.

#3 is my favorite. it’s artsy, its very you with the sweet tat & the writing (maybe more you if you were typing on a mac than writing with a pen) but also shows your serious side.

for the love of all that is holy, please don’t use #1. ;)

  114. Chad Wright 18 November 2009 at 7:10 pm #

I like the photo on the third one but maybe not with that style of type.

  115. Brandi 18 November 2009 at 7:12 pm #

oh.. and im not sure i dig having ragamuffin soul in between your name. seems a little cheesy. like “carlos im a cheeseball whittaker” … except im not sure you’re really the cheeseball type. carlos whitaker : ragamuffin soul seems to be the way to go in my humble opinion. but im buying either way, so in reality you could go with the eyeliner the angel wings & the fluffy clouds and you’ll still sell at least one copy.

  116. haemin 18 November 2009 at 7:12 pm #

#2 – it’s the face and expression we’re all so familiar with. and it’s easier for us to introduce a familiar face to people who haven’t heard of you yet. #3 is alright, but looks like it should be on a book, not an EP.

  117. Salina Vannoy 18 November 2009 at 7:14 pm #

#2!!! It looks joyful, almost contagious!

  118. Bryan Butler 18 November 2009 at 7:14 pm #

Definitely the third one. It speaks in so many ways.

  119. Ron R. 18 November 2009 at 7:16 pm #

Ok, I don’t know you at all but read your blog daily. One thing I believe you are not is fake! These covers smell ;-D My vision would be you with your acoustic in the coffee shop kicked back sharing some worship with a few customers. The background on your blog, that’s you! Family man loving husband, laid back enjoyin life. The album covers is someone else.

    Peace
    Bro

  120. Art Good 18 November 2009 at 7:18 pm #

    #2 is awesome.

  121. Brad Singleton 18 November 2009 at 7:22 pm #

OK, just so you know this is a classic psycology trick. most people like either #2 or #3 because it is easier to process the comparison of similar objects and dismiss the one very different piece.

    That being said… I like #2 :)

  122. Bryan Lee 18 November 2009 at 7:22 pm #

Number 2 for sure my friend. Your personality really comes through.

  123. Brad Singleton 18 November 2009 at 7:23 pm #

    psychology*

Not only can i not spell. Apparently I cant even spell-check.

  124. Laura 18 November 2009 at 7:27 pm #

hmmm…number 2 stands out first then #3. Tough choice! Can’t wait to hear the whole album!

  125. Annie 18 November 2009 at 7:28 pm #

This is very, very tough. I like the thought behind #1. The intensity of #3 (plus the tat). But #2 wins. Your smile wipes takes it all.

  126. Adam 18 November 2009 at 7:31 pm #

Love the 3rd one. The writing by candlelight is really unique.

  127. Courtney 18 November 2009 at 7:55 pm #

    #3

  128. jay 18 November 2009 at 7:56 pm #

honestly. i think anything that doesn’t have the musician(s) on it or anywhere in the booklet is the best.

these all look good… but i guess i’ve never really gotten the point of “band photos” and putting the band on the cover of their album.. isn’t that kinda like wearing your own band’s tshirt? idk.. i’m just weird i’m sure.

  129. rob reed 18 November 2009 at 8:02 pm #

Pic 1 is “Faith Plus One”-esque. I nix it.

    #2 and #3 are great… #2 speaks to me…

  130. Jennifer 18 November 2009 at 8:16 pm #

I didn’t read through all the comments so maybe someone has already said this. but I like the third one, but I wish you could see your tattoo more and “carlos” wasn’t overlapping it really. The image is great and your tattoo obviously has an awesome story behind it and so it would be cool if the type wasn’t so overpowering but maybe more interactive or something :) can’t wait for the album to come out! :)

  131. Christi D. 18 November 2009 at 8:23 pm #

    # 3 is my fave. Looks authentic and artsy at the same time (maybe w/smaller text though?)

  132. Katy 18 November 2009 at 8:31 pm #

For an EP, I would say #3 and I would agree with the other comments about maybe adjusting the text. Though, I do love #2 as well and the joy that is expressed. #1 is just a bit serious for me…but I prefer happy. :)

  133. Carole Turner 18 November 2009 at 8:50 pm #

    no question, #3

  134. Cole 18 November 2009 at 9:02 pm #

    Carlos,
I’d definitely go with the second one. I think the thing you want to do with this EP is connect with people as quickly as you can. The smile does that. It’s easily recognizable as no one but you. It’s reflective of the music. The reason I don’t like the third one is that you’re writing/journaling and it doesn’t really look musical or very fun. This would be a great cover for your book though :)

  135. Eric 18 November 2009 at 9:13 pm #

#2… looks like a guy I would want to buy his record.. #3 looks like somebody writing letters in jail, almost reminds me of the music video for “Dear Slim”… #1.. it’s ok but kind of blah.. looks kind of like a sickly homeless guy walking up on a stranded beach..

  136. Josh 18 November 2009 at 9:17 pm #

#2, because the other two images (although good) seem a bit forced, whereas the 2nd one looks like an image that someone could capture multiple times a day from you…very candid.

#3 for the inside back cover with the “thank you’s” for the full-length album…

  137. Tweena 18 November 2009 at 9:20 pm #

I like #2 with a different fonts and pulled out to see the full pic. I like the #3 shot again, don’ like the fonts. It’s the typographer in me.

  138. Evan Courtney 18 November 2009 at 9:21 pm #

I really love the photo in #3, but sitting down and writing doesn’t speak worship to me.
Love #2. I’m a sucker for black and red.

Excited to hear the rest of the tracks.

Thanks for your input today on #planningchristmas. Great stuff.

  139. Heidi H. 18 November 2009 at 9:22 pm #

    My 2 cents…#1 – Nah
Having never met you in person and my only knowledge of you being through your blog #2 I think speaks to your personality and I love the emotion expressed in it. But then I really like the artistic qualities of #3.

I haven’t read all the previous comments, but I agree that perhaps some type adjustment would help as well. All that to say #2 followed by #3 as a close 2nd.

  140. kelly mcnamara 18 November 2009 at 10:19 pm #

    number 2, without question.
1 seems silly. i don’t know you other than through this blog but it just doesn’t seem to fit you. kind of hokey.
3 isn’t bad but it’s like cliche hey here i am writing songs or reading the bible or doing what christian singers do
2 is welcoming, inviting, makes me smile, shows your joy.

  141. Diane 18 November 2009 at 10:24 pm #

Late to the game here (possibly too late!), but it’s #3 for me. Seems to show us more of you (no pun intended). A deep thinking, considerate worshipper & songwriter, and the candle is important cos we know that with creativity, it usually strikes at stupid o’clock!

#1 looks like a David Gray cover – now, I love David Gray, but it’s just not you.

My only issue is the font. It doesn’t sit right to me and seems to be glaring in comparison to the composition of your photo. Not sure what to suggest instead though.

  142. dean 18 November 2009 at 11:29 pm #

#2 on front. #3 on back. #1 on post office bulletin board alongside a profile shot

  143. James 19 November 2009 at 2:39 am #

I like how you look in #1 because I think(…) it reflects how you feel a lot of the time, but the baby blue bckground is sappy.

#2 is too close up and a bit too happy go lucky. if i had no idea who you were i wouldn’t reach for this cover in the store cause it’s just too loud and happy and smiley.

i love #3, it’s a GREAT setting, you’re in it but you’re not all over the cover, and it makes me curious to know what you’re up to.

    #3!

  144. Christopher Culver 19 November 2009 at 3:53 am #

I think #2 is a better introduction than the others. I would nominate a modified #1 for the full length. Like others said, your expression doesn’t speak ‘Ragamuffin Soul’ to me, it speaks ‘my stomach hurts’ or ‘I’m from the 90′s’.

  145. bunk 19 November 2009 at 4:21 am #

Honestly no matter how good the music is if I saw #1 I wouldn’t buy it just because its to damn religious looking. Just being honest.

Number 2 looks like every other album or ep cover out there(specifically in the hip faith based area). Stray away from it.

Number 3 is the one that seems to have some originallity to it and seems to draw you in to see what you are about. # 3 without adoubt.

  146. Katie 19 November 2009 at 4:47 am #

Not the first one. That’s not you : ) Miss you guys. We need to get together.

  147. Cindi 19 November 2009 at 5:14 am #

I may be way off here, but I think the candle on #3 is distracting. It looks like Way Cool Carlos with the awesome tatto jumped back in time to Little House on the Prarie. If it was more of you and less candle, that would be my choice. #2 comes in second.

  148. Paul Fowler 19 November 2009 at 5:25 am #

I really like #2, but # 3 resonates with my soul – a contemplative landscape; a story of the soul written on your arm.

  149. Joshua Seller 19 November 2009 at 5:41 am #

I like 1 only because Daley shot it. Did he shoot the other two?
1 says I’m new to the music industry and am trying to look bad A#%
    2. Says, I don’t take myself seriously and can have while doing this thing called worship
    3. its a cool picture, but doesn’t show me your face enough. as a new artist, people need to remember your mug.

    congrats dude!

  150. Kendra 19 November 2009 at 6:08 am #

I LOVE the second one….. third is a close second!!!

  151. Misty 19 November 2009 at 6:24 am #

Loving the 3rd one. definitely that one.

  152. Patty 19 November 2009 at 6:33 am #

Modified 3. Lose the candle. Stronger crop on you and arm so tat is even bigger. Put type where candle is now so you and the arm wrap around it.

    No. 2 comes in second.

    Definitely not 1.

  153. Stacy 19 November 2009 at 6:34 am #

#2 Looks the most natural/genuine and definitely the most engaging.

  154. tim 19 November 2009 at 6:34 am #

    number three – period!

  155. Camilla 19 November 2009 at 6:37 am #

Number 1 looks kind of…um…..girly? I like the pic, but not the font so much. Numbers 2 & 3 are awesome. Love them!

  156. Alyse C 19 November 2009 at 6:50 am #

I only know you from your blog, but I really like #2. I think that Christianity and worship too often forget the “fun” “joyful” part of life. The joy of the Lord is our strength right? It’s ok to laugh, to love, to have fun, to just enjoy life! So, #2 is my favorite! be blessed.

  157. css 19 November 2009 at 7:02 am #

    Decisions decisions….

I honestly don’t like the first because you look terribly sad. I mean *really* sad. Depressingly sad.

Toss up between 2 and 3 but I don’t like Ragamuffin Soul between your first and last name. Underneath would be better imho.

  158. Phil Rogers 19 November 2009 at 7:34 am #

I’ll admit that I didn’t have enough time to read all of the comments, so if I regurgitate what a hundred people have already said then I’m sorry ;)

The first EP could be the first thing that people see and know of you so I’m a huge fan of a clearly seen face that shows what kind of artist you are. If there’s anything I’ve seen of you leading is that you enjoy it so……

#2 is the best for me however the text isn’t really hitting me yet. I like #3 but you can’t see enough of you, which I know that ministry isn’t all about you but this EP is.

I would keep #3 in your back pocket, or ext harddrive, for possible future use. Like iTunes singles or something.

    Just my $.02

  159. Jeremy Walker 19 November 2009 at 7:57 am #

    They are all good.
I’m not sold with #1- “Is this guy angry about nice weather or what?”
#2 is solid, but it might get lost among other “happy” album covers.
#3 is my fave, for various reasons. It’s contemplative, simple and elegant all rolled into one. (The tattoo in the foreground sets you apart from anyone else who might try this sort of cover.)
All three are good, but there’s my feedback. (Order pf preference – 3,2,1 contact!)

  160. Ben 19 November 2009 at 7:59 am #

i like #2 the best for ur EP.. it shows off ur personality
it shows the man behind the music

    i love #3 b/c its something u don’t typically see for a worship artist
i think the story of sauls conversion blends so well w/ who u are as an artist

  161. Lex 19 November 2009 at 8:13 am #

I very much dislike #1. It’s boring, and it bugs me (personally) when people – especially Christians – don’t smile on their albums/books. *pushing soapbox away* #2 is good and I like that it shows your personality more, but I agree with the others that it’s unremarkable. Could be anyone’s cover. I like the concept of #3 best – with the conversion story in focus and you in the background. ‘Cause it’s not about you, right? If you could re-shoot it so the tattoo is easier to make out it’d be perfect.

  162. Crystal Renaud 19 November 2009 at 8:16 am #

#2 because i have always loved that picture!!!

  163. Donnie 19 November 2009 at 8:21 am #

I say #1 with a new font and a happier pic.

The heavenly background blends in good with the beard.

( I was in a Nashville mall as a teen and i met a promoter for Audio Adrenaline and i helped pick out their album cover and they are off the radar now. SO you might not wanna trust me… lol)

    >dc

  164. RWR 19 November 2009 at 8:24 am #

What’s up! Anyway my thoughts; None of them! I don’t know you personally only by reading your blog. Your blog background is you all the way! It represents your blog thoughts. My suggestion would be with you and your acoustic, kicked back in the coffee shop with a couple of listeners as you share some worship time with them. That’s you, that’s more real, not phony! The 3 covers = phony their ok just doesn’t caputure you and what you stand for.

    Peace
    RWR

  165. Brian Anderson 19 November 2009 at 9:24 am #

The artwork in essence is meant to draw someone in to check out the EP?

I think that #1 looks a bit depressing and would not jump out at me on itunes to check it out.
(I will check it out on iTunes either way but trying to look at it from a random buyer on itunes)

#2 is very eye catching and would make me give the songs on the EP a listen. It shows the fun trusting side of you that you were refering to in your post.

#3 is also eye catching but shows a more reflective side of you. I think that could tell the listener how must thought and work you put into your music. That vibe on the artwork could be more encouraging to the listener that you music will be awesome and they should check it out!

    hope it helps!

  166. Brian Anderson 19 November 2009 at 9:26 am #

OH! I also forgot to say that I like #3 because your tattoo looks BA in it too!

  167. PC 19 November 2009 at 9:26 am #

I really like 2 and 3. I could see you using 2 as an ep, and then using #3 as the full length. It creates a continuity from ep to full. But that being said, I like 3 the most.

  168. liz 19 November 2009 at 9:32 am #

#1 looks like you drank the kool-aid in a creepy sort of way
#3 looks like an album insert picture, but not an album cover picture itself
#2 is the best choice and reflection of who you come across as … a fun, happy guy … people will see it and want to buy it

  169. Oksana 19 November 2009 at 9:39 am #

My favourites are tied between the first and third.

#1 is probably the most “arresting” — if I were browsing iTunes, that’s the one that would stop me in my tracks. Very classy and I personally like your facial expression. However, the font for “RS” is a bit too much like italic Times New Roman for my liking.

Last one: great fonts, great atmosphere, but it’s missing a bit of the ‘wow’ for me. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. As I said, it’s tied with first for my fave.

  170. Aaron Ward 19 November 2009 at 9:45 am #

#3 is the way to go for an EP! For sure! I like the other two, but the third speaks volumes.

  171. nu2htown 19 November 2009 at 9:49 am #

    #3

  172. stevo 19 November 2009 at 9:59 am #

#3 – for some reason its even more natural than #2

  173. matt bortmess 19 November 2009 at 10:00 am #

definitely digging #3 out of all of them…

  174. Dave © 19 November 2009 at 10:08 am #

I like # 3 because it draws me in and begins telling me a story. What story? Not sure and so it draws me in even more. Leaves a lot of room for my imagination to roam. Makes me want to take a gamble and buy this thing to see if it’s any good. For that reason, I’m not a huge fan of the “Ragamuffin Soul” insert. I can’t really explain it but it feels like you’re restricting my imagination. It just seems out of place unless that’s the name of the EP.

I’m drawn to # 3…so that means you should probably go with # 2 (because I’m stranger than most). Definitely no on # 1. Wreaks “grumpy choir boy” to me.

  175. becky 19 November 2009 at 12:25 pm #

    totally number 3 …the process….

  176. James 19 November 2009 at 2:15 pm #

I would use the font on #1 with #4 which is you holding a guitar sitting on a chair on a stage with a simple back ground.

    Or

#2 because it’s the best shot for people to get to know you without being churchy/weird (#1) or leaving you faded and fairly unrecognizable (#3).

    Excited for the new record!!!

  177. Keith Barger 19 November 2009 at 2:29 pm #

#2. It looks like the you I see. I wanna sing with that guy.
But I like #3 for the back.
    Font…???? I think #1

  178. Graham 19 November 2009 at 2:32 pm #

I like #2. It just seems more inviting to me. I feel it’s a good representation of this blog and you. You’re a fun and energetic person. The laugh is warm and inviting… like this blog.

  179. denise 19 November 2009 at 2:44 pm #

#2!!! Number 1 is too serious and number 3 doesn’t show your personality!

    - #2 seems to fit the intent of an EP the best. catches the eye. does the best job of being just representing you in a single photo.
    - #1… I don’t think it’s doing what it’s trying to do. or it’s trying too hard. either way, to me, it doesn’t fit the songs you let us hear!
    - #3 should definitely be included in the art for the full length album. seriously great picture.

No. 1 looks a bit like you have died and gone to Ragamuffin Heaven.

  182. Annalise 19 November 2009 at 3:56 pm #

I am DIGGIN’ the last one.
    – The first one looks like you’ve got a little bit of a headache, though I like the blue in the background :)
    – The second one looks just like your blog…and don’t get me wrong, I love your blog…it just kind of seems…cheesy almost.
    – The last one is AWESOME. It screams “creative” and and “musician,” and the picture is the shiz.
    :)

  183. JO 19 November 2009 at 4:13 pm #

seems the 1st one is most professional-looking

  184. Brandi 19 November 2009 at 4:14 pm #

Wow, it’s been a long time since I’ve been here–look at those comments!

    Anyway, I came to say…

Number 2 is you–it’s Who You Are. So, I think you should use that one..

  185. meeks 19 November 2009 at 5:07 pm #

if i didnt know who carlos whitaker was and was going to buy a cd just based on the cover (i’ve done it before), i would definitely pick up #3!

  186. adam 19 November 2009 at 5:56 pm #

    love #3

  187. Zack 19 November 2009 at 6:00 pm #

#2, except it seems like Ragamuffin Soul is your nickname. #1 looks like it is a sequel to Evan and Bruce Almighty…Carlos Almighty. #3 is cool, but it would be cool to see your tattoo larger, hard to tell what it is without already knowing.

  188. Russell 19 November 2009 at 6:07 pm #

#1 most definitely has the best production value but I like the concepts of 2 and 3 more. #1 has the best overall design – that “wow, who designed this factor”. #2 and #3 do not. I think I would go with 2 if the layout and typeface were changed just a bit to give it the “factor.”

  189. Rodge 19 November 2009 at 6:48 pm #

I like the look of the last 2, but I don’t think any of them communicate the creative part of you perspective or outlook very well. I’d happily skip all of these. It’s just cool type on a cool photo. But in these examples, i’d skip over it in a store. Just being honest.

  190. Douglas 19 November 2009 at 6:54 pm #

The second two make you look like a pro wrestler. “And in this corner, weighing in at 265 pounds, at 6’3″, the thunder from down under, Carlos “Ragamuffin Soul” Whittaker!!!!!”

  191. Marshall Partlow 19 November 2009 at 7:17 pm #

#1. I feel is a Halo in gold about your head away from the cover to “Highway to Heaven” #2. is good has very casual feel very inviting. #3. Is my top choice for an Album Cover it’s warm and inviting.

  192. Michelle 19 November 2009 at 7:51 pm #

    I like happy! #2

  193. Jim Kast-Keat 19 November 2009 at 7:52 pm #

Does it have to have your face on it? I’m never a fan of things (books, albums, etc) with people’s faces. Always seems a bit presumptuous; let the product speak for itself.

To the world of products with faces on them: I want your ideas, not your face.

  194. Terry Weaver 19 November 2009 at 8:24 pm #

    1. Pissed of Carlos. Maybe your TOMS are wet.
    2. Really Happy Lifeway Carlos
    3. I am really Smart and Read John Piper Carlos

Don’t really love any of them.

  195. Cherry Simbo 20 November 2009 at 2:08 am #

    Number 3!

I think that numbers 1 and 2 could be any artist but Picture three shows something that makes you unique and has a story behind it about your tattoo.
It is a really interesting picture that makes you look closer. I love number 3!!

  196. Micah Hasty 20 November 2009 at 6:03 am #

Number 3 is my fave. I’d put “ragamuffin soul” under Whitaker though. I like them all but Number 3 is so the winner.

  197. Brent B 20 November 2009 at 1:49 pm #

I recommend #2. The other makes you look mad, the 3rd seems contrived.

  198. JROCKA 20 November 2009 at 2:48 pm #

Pic 3. Type from 1. Golden. That big bold typeface is not making me happy.

Pic 2 reflects your music more, though.

Pic 1 says you have just died and St Peter ain’t lettin’ you in. =)

I like pic 3 the best.

I can’t believe you just commented on my blog

  199. Terrible Speller 20 November 2009 at 7:14 pm #

Can’t believe I am commenting but dude you have to pick #2. It’s so you. I can hear the laugh before the camera went click. ;)

  200. Marie 20 November 2009 at 7:32 pm #

    #3 is my fave.

  201. Chris Queen 20 November 2009 at 7:39 pm #

I like 2 & 3 because they suggest action. I’m not opposed to 1, but I like the other two the best because there’s action there.

  202. Dadooz 20 November 2009 at 7:47 pm #

All are good. As one of your closest distant twitter followers, I think #2 is you, personality-wise and for an EP I would go with that.

Maybe #1 for a full album cover, #3 doesn’t say front cover to me, the photo is more liner notes/back cover- maybe.

    Look forward to hearing ya…

  203. Marsha Guerard 20 November 2009 at 7:49 pm #

I like #2 the best. The smile instantly draws you in and makes you want to hear it. I can’t comment very well on the one with the tat because I cannot make out what the tat’s about. Figuring this will be a small CD cover, it’s a risk to think it might be discernible.

  204. Joanne Brunette 21 November 2009 at 4:59 am #

No 3 does it for me.

  205. terrence 21 November 2009 at 11:16 am #

I am voting for photo #3. I “met” you through your tattoo segment on LA INK. I was just watching some episodes on YouTube and your story came on and grabbed my attention. I am also a tattooed,book/article/essay/poem/journal- writing,piano-playing,song-writing,marriage-endorsing,God worshiping human and I loved seeing you extend the reach of guys and girls like us through your choice to be open. I think the tattoo is a has a great story, but you do too and i believe it will be heard in the songs on you EP. Photo #3 is a great image and it’s candid enough to create a connection with the people who will buy it and experience the music.

  206. Rebecca Boganwright 21 November 2009 at 11:35 am #

I like them all, but the 2nd is my fav. Its you.

  207. Chelsea 21 November 2009 at 11:54 am #

I don’t have a clear favorite, but here’s my opinion of all 3.

#1 is simple, aesthetically pleasing, perhaps a little boring. However, your expression conveys a sense of curiosity and thoughtfulness about Whom your singing.
#2 is happy, upbeat, perhaps a little shallow. I don’t think “ragamuffin soul” and think “cracking up.”
#3 is quiet, serene, contemplative. But it’s also too heavy on the left side. Have you tried it with the text flush-right? Or with smaller type?

  208. Doug 21 November 2009 at 1:19 pm #

I prefer the laughing smiling you.

  209. Andrew Allen 23 November 2009 at 7:54 am #

Using number 1 You will sell 3 CDs and give everything else away, maybe

I like number 2 the best for an EP cover. It exudes joy, personality, and happiness. People are attracted to happy people and will be interested in checking out something that could inspire happiness

I like number 3 but not for an EP cover. This would be better for a full length album. It’s very interesting artistically but doesn’t have quite as much instant pop appeal.

  210. Amanda Mae 25 November 2009 at 11:51 am #

#1 Looks like a contemporary Christian album cover circa 1994. Like, You could replace your face and Name with Amy Grant, and it would fit.
#2 I really like 2, but it’s still not my fave.
#3 Is awesome. So compelling. I pick that one.

  211. Tanya 28 November 2009 at 5:52 am #

    #3- Great story it tells!

    Just some wee suggestions.
Had you thought of a diff font for “Ragamuffin Soul” to help differentiate between your name and title. You could use a serif or a script. You might even try a diff color or burn the title into the image. If you drop the entire title just a wee bit you will help dissipate a bit of the tension between your name and the photo. Awesome hierarchy that way as well.

    P.S.

love the top image…save it as I’m sure it can be used elsewhere! Maybe a single release…

May He bless you and keep you and cause His face to shine His fantastic self on you and yours. Keep on keepin on. Tanya
