Ragamuffin Soul 30 Day Holiday Health Challenge
You heard about that worship leader getting drunk that night and rolled your eyes…
That pastor who has been flirting with his secretary makes you nauseous…
You can’t believe they let their kids get away with that…
All the while, from Thanksgiving to New Years, you live the most hypocritical life imaginable.
You stuff your face with food till you can’t walk, multiple times, and gain some lbs. in the process.
You let your serving God replace your knowing God.
You ignore your family because you are too busy volunteering and helping someone else.
I see no difference between the first list and the second list.
So let’s stop using the holidays as an excuse to stop being healthy.
Let’s kick off this season with 30 days of physical, spiritual, and emotional health.
It’s simple.
Choose 3 bench marks you would like to measure those 3 areas with and blog/tweet/facebook/whatever about them twice a week.
Come to my Ragamuffin Soul 30 Day Holiday Health Challenge post and use the widget at the bottom of this post to simply place a link back to your virtual space so our readers can easily go see your progress as well.
It’s that simple.
So pick your 3 goals and fill out the form and comment below so we know you are in.
My 3 goals?
Physical – To fit into these size 34 jeans and this medium shirt.
Spiritual – the memorize 8 key life verses
Relational – to have 4 dates with each of my 4 family members.

I believe in you Los!
Los, I am with you on this. Grateful you are leading us.
Let’s do this thing
I’m in!
lets do this.
I’m in like the honey ham I shoved in my mouth last night.
Physical- Long term….to eventually get myself below the 200 mark (I think I currently sit about 245). Short term…to drop to 220 by the New Year.
Spiritually- To be able to recite, from memory, at least 10 verses from the Bible that are not things I learned in Sunday School. And spend time with my maker a lot more than I am now.
Relationally- To make my family wonder what has gotten into me because I am being the dad and husband of their dreams. And go on at least 3 hot dates with my hot wife (without the kids).
Physical-get back to 178-180lbs (I think I weigh around 195 right now).
Spiritual-Spend 30 days in prayer for 30 minutes praying about 2010
Relational-Meet a new friend that is hurting over the holidays and needs a friend
I guess I should have watched the video first before I commented and left my goals.
I am in on the Bible verses and family relationships as well.
I’m in.
physical – drop a 2 sizes
spiritual – memorizing scripture sounds like a great place to start! 10 verses in 30 days seems quite do-able.
relational – this is a necessity! Eric has been traveling a lot (and will be again soon) so we really need to take the time to focus on our relationship while he is here. I think that a real date every 2 weeks would be amazing!
thanks for doing this & helping the rest of us kick-start along with you.
I am in, and I will be sharing this with my blog. Much needed, and thanks for the jump start. Widget didn’t work though, but I don’t know if I can be sure, since I am not sure where it is supposed to appear…
I’m in :-/
physical- drop 10 or so and just feel better
spiritual- not to flake out on the verse thing
relational- I really just need to work on my relationships with everyone, I’m very much more of a taker than a giver. But I think I’m going to start with my sorority sisters because they have a lot going on right now.
Let’s do this! I’ve got a slim fit shirt that I’d love to be able to throw on. I’m with ya on the 8 key life verses, and I’d like to spend time with at least 1 different group of friends that I don’t get to spend regular time with a week for the next 5 weeks. Looking forward to it!
I’m in like Flynn…
I used to wear these western shirts with pearl buttons when my wife and I dated 3 years ago. She loves them, and I’m too fat for them now. I’m gonna rock those at the end of this.
I’m down for the key life verse memorization. I also plan to read through Proverbs in 30 days.
I’ll take my wife on 4 dates without the baby. And surprise her with 4 things over the next 30 days.
Dude, I’m with you all the way from the UK!
Personal – actually begin to work out instead of saying I’ll do it some day
Spiritual – spend more time with my Father
Relational – carve time out of my week where it’s just me and my wife
Needed this man. Bring it on!
I’m down. Great idea.
Physical: Lose 20 lbs by Christmas while developing lifelong healthier eating habits.
Spiritual: Read the Word every day of the rest of the year. Listen to two messages a week. Finally finish my NT wright book. Give away my massive excess of coats
To homeless in atl.

journal every day from the Word
spend quality AND quantity time with my wife and each of my kids each day.
Checking in from Richmond/Charlotte!
I’m so down with this challenge bro, its been on my heart big time to make some changes!
Physical – Drop 1 size in Jeans and Shirt! 12/Xl
Spiritually – Up early every morning to have a time of worship & prayer time with God!
Relationally – Meet new people! Get involved at church!
Let’s do it Los!!
Seriously?
Getting Drunk and flirting with your Secretary are the same? Same as in sin? Or same as in consequences? Or same as in getting fired?
If I remember right the Jewish people loved themselves some feasts! That’s right, God loves mashed potatoes…
love you guys. out.
count me in =]
I’m down
I am in fool!!! I am running a half marathon in Feb. and need to keep rockin with some more accountability.
gonna do dis!
physical – start training for a half-marathon. get into some 34’s myself… and a medium shirt.
spiritual – spend less time on blogs (no offense my friend) and books about Jesus and the Word and actually spend time with Jesus and the Word. specifically a study on the first chapter of James.
relational – 3 dates with my wife. 3 afternoons running with my boy outside til one of us collapses. invite two couples over for dinner.
here we go!
Cool! This is going be a great challenge for all involved. I especially like the wellroundedness (not a word, I know) of it. Very excited to do this.

I’m so in…
I’m in…
Physically – loose 10 pounds and get back to using the meds I’m supposed to be taking daily.
Spritually- Study and understand what the Bible says about “Hope”. Memorize a verse a week about that topic
Relationally- send hand written christmas cards out. Ask 2 people I don’t know well out for coffee.
Count me in and hold me accountable! Thanks for gettin’ us going!
Physical – to walk at least 2x per week and drop my last 5 lbs.
Spiritual – Find 3 more life verses to memorize and be in the word EVERY day no matter how “busy” I am.

My sister & I are re-joining Weight Watchers Monday…Verses – I suck a memory verses – goal is one…but, in the word everyday….Relationally – Christmas Cards – Maybe not to all but to some.
I gotsta gotsta fit into my t-shirts again without my man-boobs coming out from under my arms like an upper spare tire. Also want to fit into my boardshorts without the sides hanging over every time I surf. This= about 10 lbs.
I’m in on the Scripture memory.
I will have individual time with each of my kids and a date a week with my wife. And I’ll sing her Lionel Richie songs. “My love…”
Sounds like a great idea! I’m totally in.
Is there a twitter hashtag for this yet?
Good idea Graham
Yes i am totally in!!! sounds like a great idea and more people should jump in too!
Great Idea! Adding the Physical and the Spiritual part to what our family is doing together Relationally
Physical- running 3x a week and adding one yoga class at least
Spiritual- finishing reading the book of Probverbs
Relational- completing our family goal of Giving Christmas Away (sharing Peace, Hope, Joy and Love)–I chose my husband
Ok, I’m late to the game. I wanted to be sure I would really do this. And I am. Let’s go!
OH, my 3 things.
Physical – lose 10 pounds, exercise 3x a week.
Spiritual – 31 day Bible reading on YouVersion
Relational – Say 2 positive things about my husband TO my husband every day.
I’m in Los!
Physical – hey, I’d love to just not be exhausted all the time. i want to feel better and have the energy to go hiking with my husband instead of staying home and making him go by himself.
Spiritual – i’m gonna memorize those verses with you and get in The Word every single day.
relational – do more fun things with my husband! you can only watch so much tv. also spend more time with my family! i miss them like crazy.
Physical – Instead of gaining anything, I actually want to lose this Christmas season…at least 10 pounds.
Spiritual – To memorize one key verse a week and teach the same verse to Sally
Relational – for every evening that I am home right after work, do a game, craft, and/or cooking as a family and no computer until Sally is snuggled up in bed.
In…
gym membership purchased. combination lock secured.
alarm set to 5am. (oreo’s under lock and key.)
I’m in…need this!
-physical: lose a bit so things aren’t tight
-spiritual: 8 key verses and daily Bible reading
-relational: spend time being actively engaged with my kids and not just watching them play
This is a great way to stay focused for this season, thanks!
These are my goals:
Physical: get 30 mins of cardio 5 days a week
Spiritual: begin a personal Bible study, not just random reading
Relational: do something each day for one family member beyond the day to day duties.
I’m definitely in!
Physical: My significant other tells me she loves me for who I am and that will never change, but come on, I’ve put on a lot of weight over the past couple of years, and have done very little to maintain a healthy weight for a 5′8″ tall guy. I mean, who isn’t attracted to someone who is clearly in good, physical shape? I know I’m that way. It’s a human mindset. It’s time I whipped myself back into shape and I commit to getting down, by Christmas Eve, from a size 40 to at least the 36’s I was in when we first met. Heck, I’ll shoot for even lower than that!
Spiritual: I attend a Bible college, and I admittedly struggle with being consistent in the Word and fully reliant on God throughout each day. Hands down. I commit to memorizing the key verses each week, and focusing on my relationship with my Creator through personal quiet time and prayer.
Relational: While 4-hours away at school, I am separated from my friends, family, and my girlfriend. Because I am away, it is easy to let the communication with all those parties slide, and that is definitely unhealthy. I commit to maintaining those relationships through making the time to sit down every single day and pick up the phone, write the letters, and shoot out the e-mails, letting everyone know that I am alive, well, and still appreciate all that they’ve done for me over the years, and still love and care for every single one of them.
Let’s get this pawty stawted, yo! I need to drop at least 20. Want to get into my 36″ers. 34’s would be cool, I’m in 38’s right now. Scripturally ready. I’ve been on the relational restoration path for three awesome months. I lead worship for four years which pulled me away from my family. So, I stepped out of ministry to recalibrate and prioritize. It’s been amazing!!!! God is Good…all the time.
Go hard and be blessed! Chris
I’m in … I started a workout program about 3 weeks ago, but my recent trip home for Thanksgiving proved to be a challenge, so I needed this challenge and accountability!
goals:
physical – lose 10 lbs. by Christmas, and start healthier eating habits
spiritual – memorize 5 new verses
relational – intentionally re-connect with some old friends I’ve lost touch with.
I’m in… My goals…
Physical: work out 3x or more each week.
Spiritual: daily Bible reading and memorize 8 key
scriptures
Relational: Connect with one family member/friend each day for the purpose of blessing them somehow. Through prayer, service, etc.
check out my blog to see my goals
PS- update!
Went on date #1 with my daughter
Down 2.5 lbs! (gotta keep it off tho)
Spending time in the word daily!
thanks for the support guys
josh
physical — stop stuffing my face — some sort of excercise daily, run 3x per week. I stopped weighing myself this fall when things got crazy and I ate too much fast food.
spiritual — same goal — 2 verses memorized per week
relational — spend quality time with my wife, family & friends — meaning, I work hard at work, so I don’t have to at home. 1 date a week together as well
Thanks for putting this challenge out there. Love that it’s realistic and focused.
Good luck with your goals, everyone!
I AM IN!
So I signed up when this was posted (#11), but forgot to do this part- yikes!
