Hi Carlos - We communicated a while back but saw this post and wanted to share.

We sponsored Compassion children for years - we had 4 that graduated from the program. Then we were called to adopt 3 children from Latvia about 3 years ago. So now we're a family of 7 but we wanted our adopted children to have the same experience of sponsoring and giving. We have been sponsoring a family through the orphanage where our children came from in Jelgava, Latvia. The orphanage is the Sparrow's Nest at thesparrowsnest.org. The 3 children were in the orphanage while their parents were in prison for neglect and abuse. God is good though and through the work of the orphanage and a little financial help from us, the family is back together. The whole family have accepted Jesus as their savior and they are learning to live out their faith. It's amazing what God can do.

Sponsoring either through Compassion or any other method changes lives.

Take care,
Barry Vaughn

We sponsor three children in the Central African Republic. Paterne is 13, Cedric is 12 and Berenice is 5. We visited CAR last summer and worked with over 500 orphans and my 12 year old son has an outreach ministry fundraising for unsponsored orphans there and also collecting for orphans all over the world for Samaritans Purse Operation Christmas Child. My son has also raised all the funds needed for his sponsored brother to get the life saving heart surgery he needs. Praise God for everyone who sponsors a child. For without you they wouldn't have a chance!

We sponsor a 11 year old girl in Tanzania. It's something my husband and I had thought would be a good idea for years, but we just never made the commitment. While reading about the Compassion trip to Uganda on your blog and others last year we decided that it was time. It is such a blessing to receive her letters and see how shes growing and thriving.

We sponsor a little boy in India. He's nine now, and he's so sweet. I fell in love with India over a couple summer missions trips, and when I ran into a Compassion table at an event I told God, "If there's one from India I'll take him home." There was. One. From India. We're so blessed to be part of his life.

My wife Angie recently traveled to Haiti and did work in the village of Amber Pere. It was a heartbreaking journey to see such unrelieved poverty. But the mission organization has been on the island of Hispaniola for 20+ years building schools and planting churches. The school just opened in Amber Pere is their 23rd on the island.
With Voodoo as the prevailing religion, the poverty of heart is more devastating than the poverty of body. So, through feeding, educating, and loving the Haitians - they are finding new doors opened to share the heart of Christ with the villages like Amber Pere.
After her return, Angie began work with New Missions in Haiti and the Dominican Republic to help children receive sponsorship. Our first Haitian child is Jonas Noel. He is 17 and currently attends 5th grade. We hope to go to Haiti and meet him in 2010.

My grandma always sponsored a child and I vividly remember her pictures hanging on my grandma's fridge, right next to the grandkids. We didn't sponsor a child, though, until you all went to Uganda. I was reading Anne Jackson's blog at the time and my heart fell in love with Compassion. We sponsor a girl names Pross in Uganda now. I read Heather's blog and after her post about Compassion's Child Survival Program and checking out the website, I sat down with my husband and said, "this is something we HAVE to support!" I would SO love to go on a trip someday and see the faces of Compassion in real life.
