Give Your Acceptance Speech Please

Posted on 21. Jan, 2010 by loswhit in blogatical, Web/Tech, Weblogs

Rankings…Stats…Awards…
They rub me wrong.
I think it is because I used to get SOOO wrapped up in them.
And then, after my Blogatical last Feb, it all changed.
The only stat I check now is the stat thay tells me if you are hurting in your life or not.
I read every comment and consider you guys family.
And so I wanted to award you with 2 awards.
The first is this.
Some site called Post Rank named this the #1 Church blog out there.

Screen shot 2010-01-21 at 12.00.35 PM

And then the Collide Magazine readers voted this the Best Theology/Ministry Blog of 2009!!!

58692088

I find it ironic that the year I stopped caring about stats you guys provided the best content out there.
So I’m walking up to the mic now to accept these things.
You are my posse…You walk up with me…
You steal my mic and start shouting out your thank you’s…

Go ahead…
Give your acceptance speech.
It’s your blog anyways.
Thank your boss for letting you comment during work hours…
The mic is live…
Talk…

Thank YOU, Carlos. I started reading your blog only in the last few months, but I’ve been so refreshed by your perspective. Your post with your son on the EPK cover totally won me over. My husband is a rockin’ worship leader/musician but he has ALWAYS put us first – and when there is four of them and one of me, that doesn’t leave much time for the pursuit of his other love: music. He never complains and that post reminded me so much of him.

Oh, and I humbly accept these awards as a member of your community! Thanks!

      Bravo. Thanks for joining in.

I think the first “thanks” should go to you for creating an environment that allows for authenticity and realness, and, doggone it, just makes us think. It has also helped to refresh my relationship with God as I’ve gone through a major transition in my life.

I’d also like to thank my boss for allowing me to comment during work hours… :)

    • loswhit 21 January 2010 at 9:54 am #

Well you can’t thank me because it’s your award. But thanks. ;)

Knowing my luck I would get to say some words right as the music begins to fade up and that little automatic cool mic begins to lower!!

thanks for the content and sharing your life with us…the good the bad and the ugly!!

    • loswhit 21 January 2010 at 9:54 am #

      It’s ugly for sure!!!

Thanks for leading the way in providing a community of ragamuffins and giving a voice of grace to the broken.

    • loswhit 21 January 2010 at 9:54 am #

Thanks for that and call me today. Sorry I missed it yesterday

My “boss” is currently watching Dora so I’m cool. I’m on a break. My favorite posts are the ones where your kids are jumping on the couch cushions. I’ve been following both you and Heather and really enjoy seeing both sides of the coin sometimes. And from lovely northern Indiana, I can say that while I understand your fear of moving from the ATL to Chicago, it’s an awesome place. Just be sure to get really warm winter coats for everyone.

    I’d like to thank the academy… :-)

Sometimes it’s still surreal for me to read this blog… I still picture you as a fellow youth groupie back in the day at BBC!

    • loswhit 21 January 2010 at 10:57 am #

      I will always be!
      Afro and all.

Carlos…you scare me how did you know that I was at work looking at your website???

I have just started reading this daily-I would pop in from time to time but I like what I see here so I’m gonna stay.

I thank the computer for being accessible/my English teacher for teaching me to read/my typing teacher (who I didn’t like) for teaching me to type/my dogs for cuddling with me when I get on the Mac and read….

Keep up the good work. Praying for you and your family. You need to stop through Raleigh NC sometime…I can’t come to Charlotte in February to see you-bummed about that…

Oh and I called my ex-girlfriends to tell them about your music coming out next week…they hung up on me…LOL!!!

    ~Wendy~

i would like to humbly accept this award on behalf, Carlos “los” Whittaker. He couldn’t be here today because he is cleaning. His passion for getting people fired up is unsurpassed! Getting us fired up for the race of a lifetime.Thanks.

    • loswhit 21 January 2010 at 11:56 am #

Well. Thank Brady for telling you about me. So I should give it to him

  13. Jason 21 January 2010 at 11:13 am #

The content on your site taught me to stretch – beyond what I know – beyond what I see as comfortable and acceptable – and beyond what I am being fed. I’m letting go of the reigns to see where God takes this buggy I call me.

I’m going to Africa this Summer, to help out at an AIDS orphanage, build some chicken coops, and just try to be the Jesus that those folks haven’t seen yet. I would appreciate your prayers for a safe journey.

Aaand if anyone reads this and wants to donate some cash-ola, e-mail me and I will give you the deets.

I would like to thank Twitter for connecting me with ragamuffinsoul. Thank you to the IT team who graciously allows this blog not come up as “social media.” Um, and oh yeah! God, for bringing his family together.

Carlos, this is one blog I check daily and share with my non-twitter family and friends as much as possible. Thanks!

    • loswhit 21 January 2010 at 11:57 am #

      Thanks Jessica!!!
And thanks to your IT dept for not blocking thius site as porn like some IT depts do!!!

First of all, I’d like to thank Carlos. At a time in my life where I was going through many changes, good and bad, I was searching for answers. I recently began my journey to the Lord and this blog has motivated and taught me so many things along the way. Thanks for being a huge stepping stone to help get me moving in the right direction!

    • loswhit 21 January 2010 at 11:58 am #

Amy. Thanks for coming by. It’s people like you that keep me blogging.
I pray for continued growth in your life.

  17. eric 21 January 2010 at 11:58 am #

I just gotta say that as a person who grew up in a beautiful, conservative small southern town (and church), who was taught to do all I can for the Kingdom while remaining relatively safe, I gotta say that you have rocked my world. You can never know how you have challenged my thinking, and in the long run, have helped change my ministry mindset from safe to risky. Rock on, my friend…. Congrats!

    • loswhit 21 January 2010 at 12:05 pm #

Eric. That is the goal. I appreciate it so much. Thanks for being here.

I first learned of you, Carlos, and this blog the day you took your blogattical. My thought then was “pretty horrible timing” but then you came back, and I made sure to stay up on this community. As a 23 year old who loves to write, loves the church and desires authenticity among it’s leaders, this has been a place I continually find myself coming back to. Thanks for the space you have created.

  19. Toby 21 January 2010 at 12:49 pm #

Used to be a regular ’round here….took a little “net-atical” and saw Losiah the worship leader…..now I’m back…
    Here we go…..

Big thanks to your old teams at Sandals. That’s where you where when I started lurking.
Thanks to Heather and the kiddos for playing along and letting us see a little of their lives.
Thanks to Mom and Dad Whittaker for raising up a rebellious Jesus Freak.
And thanks to whoever turned you on to photography – it’s viral.

Thanks for showing us how it’s done! I hope to “not care” about those exact things..someday soon!

  22. Becky 21 January 2010 at 1:13 pm #

I’d also like to thank you, Carlos. Your words encourage and push me to grow in my faith when I’ve become far too comfortable. I thoroughly enjoy your posts and tweets! Thanks for letting us all into your life. You definitely deserve these awards.

Oh and I totally walk in on my boss being on Facebook ALL THE TIME. So I don’t feel the least bit guilty for blog surfing on my Blackberry!

  23. Kamrie Reed 21 January 2010 at 1:21 pm #

Thanks for allowing us to see your story as we all go through life together trying to create our own story

  24. dubdynomite 21 January 2010 at 1:23 pm #

Ragamuffin Soul was the second blog I started reading regularly. I was reading Shaun Groves’ blog, and he gave you plug, so I dropped over and subscribed. I have read every post from that point on.

Since then there has been L.A. Ink, the move from Cali to the ATL, the launch of the coaching network, the Ragamuffin record (along with so many other things), and soon, Soul City Church.

It’s been an amazing journey for you so far, but this blog has made it OUR journey – a journey through hopes, victories, anxiety, doubts, questions, failures, life and love. What has been built here is more than a “brand”, it is a community, and that community is the catalyst for the success of Ragamuffin Soul.

So thanks to everyone for being a part of the community, and may we somehow use this success to help those in need and bring honor to our Savior.

i’d like to thank charlos and his mad relating skills. i am apart of a multi-ethnic church in charlotte, nc. this blog continues to remind me that our God is not the savior of one race, but of all. but best of all, love that this blog of multi-ethnics is lead by a guy living a multi-ethnic lifestyle. so thank you blogademy for the award.

Thank you for sharing life online. For posting pics of your beautiful family. For tackling tough issues that most people avoid. For asking the tough questions but also adding simple ones. I never know what I’m going to get when I read this blog. Thanks for keeping me guessing. Thanks for sharing your life journey with us.
