Worship Leading 101 // How To Train Up A Rookie Worship Leader

Posted on 18. Jan, 2010 by loswhit in Family, Music, Worship Leading

Every morning Losiah waked up singing…

Take my life and let it be, all for You and for Your glory
Take my life and let it be Yours!!!

Now look. My good friends Steve and Vicky wrote that song. WE ALL KNOW IT IS A KILLER bridge.
But a man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do.
I got to get the marketing machine that is my 3 year old to sing my song not Fee’s.
The kids at the preschool are gonna be all about that tall skinny white worship guy and not the tubby, brown, Mexican.
So I taught Losiah my song Rain It Down tonight.

I led worship in front of close to 6000 people yesterday…
It was amazing…
But this…
This is leading worship.

  14. Jeremy 19 January 2010 at 6:04 am #

What guitar are you playing? does not look like the Taylor. When you were leaving Cali, you mentioned a new guitar, I have not heard anymore about that.
What’s the story? (sorry to be nosey, I just love me some guitars)

    • loswhit 19 January 2010 at 7:02 am #

It’s a 1992 Seagull. AMAZING sound. And the story behind the guitar is coming soon on the blog. Yes. That is the one.

  15. Anna 19 January 2010 at 6:20 am #

  17. Chris 19 January 2010 at 6:40 am #

had to grab some ice for my face, ’cause Little Los just melted it off!!=Sso cool! I’m trainin’ up my lil worshipers too. It’s one thing to blaze a trail… but how cool is it to look over our shoulder and see a procession of the next generation of lovers of God – ones who carry our names and resemblances and lift the Name above all Names?!
“All of my children are taught of the Lord, and great is their peace” – Isaiah 54:13

hah! dude your little dude is so awesome!

My kiddos love the songs I write…it is surprising that they pick up the lyrics so easily! There is no better fan than your fam!

BTW you don’t happen to know Sheri Carr do you? She is down there in Hotlanta… another awesome worship leader there.

  22. Mike Kendall 19 January 2010 at 7:29 am #

    That’s awesome, love it!!

  23. Coenraad 19 January 2010 at 10:35 am #

    This is SOOOOOO awesome!!!!
Really looking forward to your album, that is if it will be available in sunny South Africa.

  24. Molly Moore 19 January 2010 at 11:16 am #

Ditto what everyone above has said.

Talk about kids singing songs… my kids will just start randomly singing “One Jah, One Creator, Yes and one Father…. ” (except they do it with the cool reggae accent). They even put the “budabuy budabuy” (or however you spell that) in there! They sing the whole song… just as it is on the video!

    It’s AWESOME!

  25. Sean Sims 19 January 2010 at 11:17 am #

That was great Los (& Little Los). I have a little boy, a year and a half (and another on the way). I already cherish that look from my little guy, no better feeling, as looks go!

BTW, heard it on satellite radio this morning, driving back from JFK. Looking forward to the 26th Los. Will it be available immediately on iTunes?

  26. Becky 19 January 2010 at 11:56 am #

being a parent, leaving a legacy of faith..wow what a cool purpose for our lives!

  29. Randy 19 January 2010 at 2:00 pm #

Read your blog for awhile, but never commented. Great video! Thanks for sharing…

Taking a chance to see if you would answer a worship/programming question. I’m a church planter – we’re 2 yrs old. I love starting our main Sunday morn gatherings with a high energy, hair on fire song. Some of our team prefers the first song to be a mid tempo “on-ramp” type song for those just waking up (so to speak). We def have Sunday’s where we mix it up, but as a general rule…what are your thoughts? Thanks for any insight you could give, and it’s cool if you if you ignore me altogether! :-)

    Much love,
    Randy

  32. brandiandboys 19 January 2010 at 6:48 pm #

our 3 year-old, brewer, considered “glory to god” his favorite song in the world! :)

    love seeing losiah worship!

  33. Laura Anne 20 January 2010 at 2:52 am #

Saw this on your wife’s blog. Love it! I love seeing kids worship. And so NOW i know what to do if I decide to try out songwriting again….teach my godson! I knew there was a reason I agreed to be his godmother.

    :-)

Seriously though, this made me smile, and really cool to see Daddy & son worshipping God and having fun together with it.

Slightly off-topic, but yes to the Canadian flag in the background.

  35. lita-nj 20 January 2010 at 8:06 pm #

There’s nothing more beautiful then seeing a son wanting to be like thier daddy. Really, Really, Really Sweet!!!!

  36. Matthew W 21 January 2010 at 10:12 pm #

Los, I don’t think I’ve ever heard your song in its entirety… but just from the chorus, it sounds like it might do good in a medley with Misty Edwards’ “My Soul Longs For You.” One of the repeated lines is “I believe You will come like the rain.” It then goes into repeating “Let it rain!” Just a thought. :-)
