I love them to pieces though – our joint quirk is that we refer to each other as “goonie.” Not because of the movie. We were all hanging out one evening and I was giving Ashley a back tickle by spelling words out on her back.

Me: how about this word?
Ash: tulip?
Me: yes! okay what about . . . THIS word?
Ash: ummmm . . . goonie?
Me: no! it’s ROOMIE.

Thus, Goonie stuck and we all refer to each other as “Goonie” or when we all agree on something we’re “in Goonity” or we ARE “The Goonity” (hittin’ some imago dei theology there! lol). We have a wreath with a “G” on our front door and we alternate goonie with “goonicus” or “goonster.”

but in all seriousness, taking time to learn the stories that each life holds…like the 80 year old amish man, is an education that is treasured above most things, but disregarded by most people.
