I know it’s not as catchy as Donald Millers book title but it’ll have to do.
I’m heading on radio tour this week hitting Dallas, Sacramento, Seattle, Portland, St. Paul, Grand Rapids, and Denver.
I’m gonna try and schedule a tweet/blog/whatever meet up in each town I’m in.
I’ve got radio and TV appearances each day but for those of you who stay up late…there shall be a chance to dine…
If I had to eat at one place in each of those towns…where would it be and what would I eat?
Hope to see you guys!!!

Any chance you’ll get to Florida? Orlando/Daytona?

  2. Steve 1 May 2010 at 10:55 pm #

Yay, hope to get to meet you in Denver!

You MUST eat at the Buckhorn Exchange http://www.buckhorn.com/ and at least sample Rocky Mountain Oysters.

Will you be playing anywhere? Need a guitarist to join you? :)

    • Alex 4 May 2010 at 9:46 am #

Can’t wait to hear you in Denver! If you don’t get a chance to eat at the Buckhorn, you need to eat at The Cherry Cricket – http://www.cherrycricket.com

  3. Melissa 1 May 2010 at 10:58 pm #

    in Denver

  4. Heredes 1 May 2010 at 10:59 pm #

Stop by south floridas 88.1 Way FM bro …. And then our crew here at Flamingo Road church will treat to a VIP Miami night out… “will smith” style. ;)

    @heredes

You’ll be in Holland (Grand Rapids) during Tulip Time. That means you have to check out the “fat stations” downtown. Or Wild Chef is a pretty great place to eat too. If you want to go old school West Michigan, you need to eat at Russ’. Food isn’t great, but it’s a West Michigan staple.

  6. amandasuzanne 1 May 2010 at 11:19 pm #

wohoo! you are coming to colorado! bd’s mongolian bbq in denver is great.

  7. Brennan 1 May 2010 at 11:22 pm #

Sactown!!! Bring it on man, what day you rolling in? Would love to hang.

  8. Amy 1 May 2010 at 11:27 pm #

Will you be in St. Paul or Roseville? Northwestern College has a St. Paul mailing address but is actually in Roseville. If I were going to eat in Roseville it would be at the Royal Orchid: 2401 Fairview Avenue North, Roseville, MN 55113. But if you are meaning for an eating/Tweet-up, I’d go to the Mall of America for ease. Mickey’s Diner in St. Paul is fun. Or in Minneapolis, try the Midtown Global Market: 920 East Lake Street. Minneapolis, MN 55407-5449. That might also be a good Tweet-up place. Let us know when you are in town!

  9. Shaun Groves 1 May 2010 at 11:41 pm #

Pappasito’s or Uncle Julio’s in Dallas. I like the chicken fajitas personally. At Pappasito’s I get it with “skin on.”

    Yum.

    • JoJo 2 May 2010 at 5:30 pm #

If it’s Dallas Fajitas you’re lookin’ for – you gotta do La Hacienda Ranch. Melts in your mouth.

      • David U 2 May 2010 at 8:14 pm #

JoJo’s right, Los. See comment below!

  10. Jamie 1 May 2010 at 11:47 pm #

When you’re rolling through CA’s capital city…grab a steak sandwich at Jack’s Urban Eats. (http://jacksurbaneats.com). All the cool kids are doing it.

  11. C.L. "Hurricane" Jacobsen 1 May 2010 at 11:58 pm #

My wife says there’s nothin’ like a home cooked meal, so if you can handle kids and a couple of dogs, she’s offerring. If you want to do something out, there is a place called The ScreenDoor, (www.screendoorrestaraunt.com). There is a 60-90 minute average wait, but it is worth it. I am assuming you will be on The Fish, (104.1 KFIS), here in Portland. Let me know when you are gonna be in P-Town and where you end up. If the opportunity arises, I would love to say, “Hey!”

    Safe travels

      Los!

I don’t have a lot of suggestions on where to eat in PORTLAND, but I was wondering if I could be a poser, and invite myself to have dinner with you? Shoot, It could even be my treat.

I’d love to tell you how you have impacted my life. Let me know bro!

      God Bless!!

    • ryrho 2 May 2010 at 10:31 pm #

      PORTLAND:
Can’t say anything about The ScreenDoor, I have yet to check it out. If an out of towner wants a good restaurant that has a Portland “vibe”, I would recommend The Montage Bistro. It’s an experience! You can eat alligator jambalaya, frog legs, gator bites, flat iron steak (sooo good) or all kinds of tasty home made mac that will blow your mind. And to top it off, wide mouth Mickey’s if you desire.
      http://montageportland.com/default.aspx

Dessert has to be 23rd St. for Papa Haydn. No doubt.
      http://montageportland.com/default.aspx

Enjoy your trip. Try to keep the N’west on the DL for us.

    • Aaron 3 May 2010 at 7:05 pm #

      howdy Chris. (Aaron)

  12. Ben 2 May 2010 at 1:40 am #

What you SHOULD do is make it through KC and eat some real BBQ… my treat… I know that is some real motivation there.

  13. David U 2 May 2010 at 2:51 am #

Los- Although Shaun is correct about Julio’s and Sito’s having great Tex Mex, come to La Hacienda Ranch on Preston b/t Frankford and Campbell. It’s better. I manage this location. Great mesquite grilled steaks, beef and chicken fajitas that most Dallasites will agree, are the best. Our owner, Mariano Martinez invented the frozen margarita machine. Grab JoJo and you guys come in and have lunch on me. :) Free food tastes good!

  14. Jesse 2 May 2010 at 3:05 am #

When you are in Sacramento…you have to check out Capital Dawg or the Sqeeze Inn…local greats! Enjoy the area!

  15. Alisha 2 May 2010 at 4:22 am #

While in Seattle you MUST eat at Beth’s!! It’s been made famous by there HUGE omelet on Man Vs. Food.
It’s a hole in the wall, open 24 hours, just super fun place to eat in Seattle. CHECK IT OUT!

    • Jennifer - @persimmonpulp 3 May 2010 at 10:43 am #

Then follow it up with dessert @ Tango – El Diablo is… well, it’s just sinful it’s so good. Of course it’s also so big that you need others to help you eat it. :)

Think decadent dark chocolate meets cayanne and they have a love child. um… yeah.

      http://www.tangorestaurant.com/

Of course, if you want a true taste of the NW, any of the restaurants owned by Tom Douglas will fit that bill – http://tomdouglas.com/

  16. Adriana McFayden 2 May 2010 at 8:13 am #

Can you please post your schedule? In Dallas, depends on what you want. If you want really good Mexican kinda fancy, Javier’s if you just want good fare, Manny’s.
Adam probably knows. He’s the man.

  17. Glen Davis 2 May 2010 at 8:25 am #

I just had the best sushi of my life in Sacramento (technically the adjacent Rancho Cordova) at Samurai Sushi. http://www.usasamurai.com/ If you go, be sure to order something with the special sauce.

  18. Jason 2 May 2010 at 8:36 am #

In Seattle you have to eat at dicks drive-in. It inexpensive and super good.

    • Jennifer - @persimmonpulp 3 May 2010 at 10:43 am #

It’s good – however it doesn’t quite compare to In-n-Out (unfortunately)

      • Barry 3 May 2010 at 4:41 pm #

I must disagree. Dicks is not nearly as good as people make it out to be.

If you want a burger, go for Red Mill. I don’t think anyone in Seattle will argue with you about how good their burgers are. Unless their vegan.

        • Virgil 10 May 2010 at 12:52 pm #

Word. Red Mill is where it’s at.

If you like asian food, hit up a street vendor. Pretty much any street cart with a line at it during lunch time. Beyond that, Salumi (in downtown) is the best italian meet sandwich spot in the city. Get there early, tho.

Of course, I cook the heck out of steak. You and the fam could swing by our place!

Enjoy the city. Hope you get to see the sun. Seattle is the prettiest city in America on a sunny day.

  19. Veronica 2 May 2010 at 10:20 am #

Let me add one more vote for the Squeeze Inn in Sacramento. We’re not in Sacramento anymore or else I’d love to treat you to a meal there! It’s not much to look at and it’s in the middle of an industrial area, but it’s a true top notch dive that serves an amazing and one of a kind cheeseburger. Truly a place for Ragamuffins.

  20. David 2 May 2010 at 10:50 am #

    Praying 4 u Dude!

  21. Clint Singleton 2 May 2010 at 10:55 am #

    Seattle = 13 Coins….INCREDIBLE

    • katie 3 May 2010 at 7:00 pm #

i second 13 coins. No matter what time of day it is… you have to order their bacon.

It’s also really close to the airport!

  22. Joanna 2 May 2010 at 12:38 pm #

Another Sacramento option is Leatherby’s, an old fashioned ice cream parlour. Amazing and open late.

  23. Longbrake 2 May 2010 at 4:49 pm #

We don’t have food here. Bummer.

  24. Adam 2 May 2010 at 5:30 pm #

what stations will you be on so i could find you on your trips all over america

  25. Jonathan Edmund 2 May 2010 at 5:31 pm #

Seattle: You must eat at Thai Toms for the best (and spiciest, if you like it that way) Thai food in the states. While you’re there you can walk up a few stores to the Continental Bakery which is a Greek restaurant with the best Almond Baklava EVER! It’s dripping honey and deliciousness.

Also, you MUST go to The Yellow Leaf cupcake in Belltown (Blanchard & 4th). As a cupcake aficionado the Yellow Leaf is the best in Seattle, better even than the famous Trophy cupcakes (though those are still good). I mean, check out their flavors: http://www.theyellowleafcupcake.com/cupcake_flavors.php And no, I don’t work for the Yellow Leaf, but I should because I buy way too many cupcakes at full price.

If you’re up for Ethiopian food (one of my favs) check out Blue Nile which is on 12th in the First Hill area. Really really good and not very expensive at all.

Obviously you should check out the Pike Place market and get a few gifts for the kids/wife. Let me know if you want any more Seattle tips or if you want to grab a bite at any of the aforementioned places together — The Emerald City is the best!

    • Barry 3 May 2010 at 4:43 pm #

      Jonathan,

      I know you.

If you make your way to Pike Place Market (which, if you ever visit Seattle and you dont, its probably a crime), eat at Pike Place Chowder. It is such goooood chowder.

      • Jonathan Edmund 4 May 2010 at 11:32 pm #

        Barry,

I know you. And I know your girlfriend. Your move.

Agreed on the chowder, by the way.

  26. Jennifer 2 May 2010 at 5:51 pm #

St. Paul – Mickey’s Diner (used in films Jingle All The Way and The Mighty Ducks, as well as others), The Muddy Pig, The Happy Gnome… there are tons.

If you’re willing to come over to Minneapolis, I’d say, Brit’s Pub (complete with Lawn Bowling) or The Local (both downtown). There is also a Rock Bottom, which is fantastic, but not a local place.

Rosedale Mall (in Roseville,MN minutes from both St. Paul and Mpls) also has some cool chain restaurants… Big Bowl, Macaroni Grill, Granite City etc. Which would be easy and convenient.

Mickey’s is awesome, but small (it’s a dining car) so probably not great for a big meet up, you should still try to eat there though.

    • Johanna 2 May 2010 at 9:16 pm #

I agree with all these recommendations! Will you on PraiseFM or KTIS? I’d love to meet up with you when you’re in the Cities!

  27. Jenn 2 May 2010 at 5:57 pm #

Too bad you’re not coming a bit farther north to Vancouver! Take care.

  28. Ian 2 May 2010 at 6:07 pm #

    Hey Los,

    For Grand Rapids

If your looking for something you wont find anywhere else you have to check out: http://yesterdog.com/

But if you want to wash down your food with an amazing beer you need to go to: http://www.foundersbrewing.com/
They just won 4 medals at the 2010 World Beer Cup!

Either way, make sure you let me know where you will be and my wife and I will try to make it. We really enjoy following your ministry and would love to get the chance to meet you.

    Ian

    • Wally 3 May 2010 at 4:26 pm #

Iwould have to vote for yesterdog also, plus it’s open 24 hours!

      • Tamra 3 May 2010 at 10:30 pm #

Yesterdog is a great place to eat here in Grand Rapids! You have to go there.

Although founders is a great place too!!

And then there’s also Adobe (mexican food) which is always amazing. :)

        • Rebecca 4 May 2010 at 9:12 am #

As a Grand Rapids native who left about 10 years ago, Yesterdog is the one place that I MUST visit every time I return to the area (aka on holidays – nothing like Mom’s turkey dinner followed up with two Ultra Dogs!)

Another place that I have fallen for is Marie Catribs: http://www.mariecatribs.com It opened a few years back and serves natural, fresh, local food. Both are in East Town – a great people-watching place with a relaxed fun vibe.

  29. Caroline 2 May 2010 at 7:05 pm #

One more Grand Rapids tip — if you’re looking for somewhere else besides hot dogs (though don’t get me wrong, Yesterdog is incredible), try the Electric Cheetah. All locally-grown, organic, highly creative and delicious food. One of my favorites here in town.

Glad to hear you’re hittin’ up G-Rap — perhaps I might see ya!

    Be well,
    Caroline

  30. Lee Bezotte 2 May 2010 at 9:05 pm #

Looks like your driving right past my house (Davenport). Hit me up and I’ll buy you a meal.

    • Jennifer 2 May 2010 at 9:20 pm #

Small world! I live in Minneapolis now (going to school) but Davenport is my hometown! :)

  31. Adriana McFayden 2 May 2010 at 9:32 pm #

Necesitas quedarte conmigo y te cocinare la mejor comida Mexicana. I will order the best home made tamales and enchiladas for you and your crew if you let me know where and when. SERIOUSLY. I’m telling your mom so she can remind you. Oh, yeah, we’re friend :)

  32. Casey 2 May 2010 at 9:36 pm #

Looks like you’ll be driving right through Vicksburg, MS (about 45 min from Jackson), but it doesn’t look like you’re stopping. If something changes, we have great eating around here!

  33. Amy 2 May 2010 at 10:25 pm #

I forgot to say that my home cooking is pretty good. My husband raves and he has to eat it every day. So I second the earlier poster who said the home cooked meal option. You are welcome and it would be an honor to have you when you hit the Twin Cities.

  34. Rob Brock 2 May 2010 at 10:38 pm #

Mickey’s Diner in St. Paul would be epic. It’s a historic, tiny little 24 hour greasy spoon diner in the heart of downtown St. Paul. It might be too small, depending on how late it is, but it would be like packing 23 college students into an old VW bug. Check it out, and I’ll look for your tweets when you are in town! http://www.mickeysdiningcar.com/

  35. Jason 2 May 2010 at 10:44 pm #

I’m with the guys above, in Dallas, La Hacienda will rock you’re world. If you go, I’ll be there.

  36. Erik Carlson 3 May 2010 at 12:14 am #

Are you stopping here in Des Moines, Iowa?

  37. Jean Amico 3 May 2010 at 12:25 am #

Are you on the road all this time? You are driving right through Kingman AZ. We may have good restaurants, but I can cook a great steak.

  38. Annie Bakaleinikoff 3 May 2010 at 12:34 am #

Going right through Redding – are you going to get to visit with Dan and Alyssa? By the way, he rocked worship tonight. Anyway, I’d say skip dinner in Sac and head to Redding and Jack’s Grill, just for the history.

  39. Ryan Feltman 3 May 2010 at 9:44 am #

I would have to say for Minneapolis/St.Paul the best would be Psycho Suzi’s Motor Lounge…great food, great atmosphere…here’s their site http://www.psychosuzis.com/

  40. Jabber Jaws 3 May 2010 at 10:17 am #

Dallas best Mexican is Mia’s on Lemmon Avenue. Very casual – trust me, the brisket tacos and a margarita. In Ft. Worth, it has to be Joe T. Garcia’s – take cash. They don’t take the card. Great, great, great food. Really. Love me some Texas!

  41. Jillian 3 May 2010 at 10:31 am #

Grand Rapids: I agree with those above. You have to go to Yesterdog!

Denver: The Cherry Cricket has great burgers. It’s in Cherry Creek, so a couple miles out of downtown, but it’s worth the drive. If you meet a bartender named Justin, a friend of mine, tell him I say hey :)

  42. Jennifer - @persimmonpulp 3 May 2010 at 10:48 am #

I posted above, but then I thought about it… when we day trip down to SEATTLE, we often eat our way up Pike’s… gyros, chowder, the Confectional, piroshky’s, seafood, South American, French, fish & chips… there’s a little bit of everything there and $40 will get you a very long way.

Oh, and the original St. Arbuck’s, if you’re into that sort of thing. (although I would recommend Caffe Ladro or Zeitgeist or Cafe Vita – all are 10-to-1 hands-down much better coffee)

And if you have the time, head to Freemont and pick up some Theo’s chocolate for Heather… she will thank you. 3100 Phinney is the address… and the name of one line of chocolate. Soooooooooo good.

    • Tanya 3 May 2010 at 3:11 pm #

And while you’re at Pike Place, you can walk down the waterfront and go to http://www.thecrabpot.com/.

    • Jonathan Edmund 4 May 2010 at 11:33 pm #

Theo’s chocolate is soooo good! And their free samples always leave me full. Take the tour if you have time!

    • Virgil 10 May 2010 at 12:58 pm #

PLEASE don’t go to $tarbuck$ while you’re here. Same as they are everywhere else on earth. Any of the spots she recommended are money, but we (me and the wifey) like cafe ladro (www.caffeladro.com – locations) the best.

As for the chocolate- skip Theo. Trust me on this. If you go to Chocolate Box near Pike Market, they have chocolate from all the Seattle chocolatiers (including theo) in house. It’ll save you the running around and they gift box for free.

  43. Rico 3 May 2010 at 12:15 pm #

I’ll drop you a few options in Portland, OR.

If you dig Peruvian food you should check out the Andina restaurant in the Pearl District: http://www.andinarestaurant.com/

Or for the best Thai food check out Typhoon on Broadway in D’town:
    http://www.typhoonrestaurants.com/

And then one more in the Pearl, it’s a breakfast joint that is insane! Check out Byways Cafe for a real, down-to-earth feel and it definitely has a “Portland-aura”:
    http://www.bywayscafe.com/

Have a good time and let us know when you’re swinging by.

  44. Kelly C. 3 May 2010 at 12:21 pm #

In Portland: The Blossoming Lotus. Super healthy food….and AMAZING if you order off the raw menu. I recommend the pizza. Oh man.
In Seattle (or Portland, actually): Ruth’s Chris’ Steakhouse! And I agree w/Jennifer- Cafe Vita is the way to go.

When will you be in Seattle/Portland??? Are you doing shows we can come watch??

  45. Ray Eickhoff 3 May 2010 at 12:37 pm #

Spuds Fish and Chips on Alki or Green Lake!

  46. Ray Eickhoff 3 May 2010 at 12:38 pm #

That would be Spuds in Seattle!

  47. Aaron 3 May 2010 at 7:09 pm #

    Portland: Agree on Screen Door.

For coffee, you need to get to Stumptown. That’s the coffee that tastes like how coffee smells. The designs in their latte foam are like little pieces of artwork that you drink.

For breakfast-type food, there’a a place called Helsner’s on Alberta Street that has an amazing german pancake and scotch eggs. The bacon is off the hook. I think they serve it all day too for those times when you want breakfast for dinner. Alberta is a great vibey street too. Like a little neighborhood community.

  48. Danny Panasiuk 3 May 2010 at 7:37 pm #

When you’re in Sacramento…You gotta eat at Mikuni. It is the best sushi ever. Mikuni means Kingdom of Heaven.

  49. Jenni 3 May 2010 at 7:56 pm #

I recommend going to Saint Joseph, MI and going to Silver Beach Pizza. Their greek garlic pizza is the best! Plus it’s right by Lake Michigan if you have time for that stop. :)

  50. @thebrinkgr 3 May 2010 at 9:01 pm #

    GRap is my hometown!

Here are my suggestions for GRap:
    Yesterdog is great for hotdogs
Brick Road Pizza has awesome wood fired pizza
    Marie Catribs has awesome everything!

If you’re actually going to be in Holland, then I would recommend:

    JP’s Coffee for great espresso
    Froggys for great burgers

  51. Mindie Gilliland 3 May 2010 at 10:16 pm #

OK WHEN YOU ARE IN SEATTLE (If you haven’t gone there yet) YOU HAVE TO EAT AT, “13 COINS.” And sit in the high back chairs at the bar area… I recommend breakfast. SO fun to watch them make breakfast. http://13coins.com/

    -Mindie
    http://pages.teamintraining.org/ocie/rnr10/mgilliland

  52. Kyle Reese 4 May 2010 at 5:38 pm #

    Uhh, where is destination ‘F’?

  53. Chris Meirose 4 May 2010 at 6:40 pm #

Check your spam trap, i think my comment from earlier this week about where to eat in St. Paul got flagged because I put in a bunch of links to restaurant pages so you would have food choice options. If I had to pick one place, I’d head to Uptown in Minneapolis and hit Chino Latino. Call ahead a day early and they’ll even serve you Guinea Pig.

  54. Lori 5 May 2010 at 9:43 am #

Carlos I don’t see in Florida in that map, big bummer. Anyways I will get the word out for ya here in Florida.

    http://www.lorisreflections.com/everyday-things/carlos-whittaker-ragamuffin-soul/

  55. Mary B 5 May 2010 at 5:27 pm #

If you come to Holland which is near GR then I suggest stayig away from the downtown area. Go to FatBurrito, great Mexican food.

  56. Peggy 6 May 2010 at 1:20 pm #

Looks like you will passing thru Prescott, Arizona. ???

  57. Sam Roberts 7 May 2010 at 1:11 am #

    Jackson, Mississippi
    Keifer’s
    705 Poplar Blvd
    Jackson, MS 39202
    601-355-6825

    DELICIOUS.
Get the lamb gyro & the sliced potatoe.
    yummy.

    you’re welcome! :)

  58. Virgil 10 May 2010 at 1:03 pm #

This’ll seem WAY out in left field, but try to get to Rock Pizza while you’re in the Seattle area. They’re local and recently started chaining locally. http://www.rockwfp.com

The pizza will melt your face off. It’s cooked in a wood burning oven. So money. But the vibe is amazing. As the name would suggest, it’s “Rock-themed.” Lots of classic decor. My fav location has a chandelier made of old strats. Another has a massive (like 25-ft tall) painting on the wall of Hendrix as a skeleton playing a flaming guitar, afro and all. Don’t miss it if you can get there.

Get the crazy train pizza if you go- pepperoni, bacon, roasted garlic, caramelized onions and cherry peppers. SO GOOD
