Plucking Dandelions And Paying Attention

Sohaila Dandelion

There is that guy who shows up at your church every Sunday morning at 6 am to set up chairs or set up cones in the parking lot.
There is that girl who has been sitting 4 rows from the back who will only be there another 2 Sundays and never get baptized or volunteer in your preschool dept.
There is that wife or husband who don’t ever get 2 days in a row of family time because their spouse works at a church.
There is that high maintenance small group member who bugs the crap out of you all the while crying themself to sleep at night because they have nothing left to give.
There is that child who looks at you like you hung the moon while you check your email or that latest text from someone who could care less.

When Sohaila stopped me to blow on this dandelion I realized that I had walked past hundreds without for a second thinking about how amazing they are.
They were amazing to me once, a long time ago.
But now I walk by them forgetting the beauty and wonder God created them with.

Don’t forget the wonders God has placed in your life.
It just takes a second to remember how amazing they are.
Thank you Sohaila.
And you’re welcome reader.
Now go pluck a dandelion or whatever that means to you right now.
Los

Mine was my wife a few years ago…leading worship multiple times each weekend. I literally saw her for maybe 2 hrs each weekend. One day she said, “Remember me?” I immediately learned how to say no. Thankful she didn’t stay quiet, ’cause I was oblivious.

The comment about the EGR small group member struck me close to home! Thank you…I needed that reminder.

People Matter to God. I wonder sometimes what would happen if all of us really lived like we actually believe that to be true…

And what a mess that would be. Talk about disrupting OUR plans.

Etta Jane had me reflecting on similar things just 2 weeks ago when she was crawling around in our lawn and loving the new grass. I was inspired to write as well (http://tinyurl.com/2aqxd7m). It’s beautiful and, I think, kind of holy when the amazement of our children leads us to recapture a bit of awe and wonder at the glory God has surrounded us with. Just one of the many blessings of fatherhood…

when i’m at home, i have set times with the fam to hang with them everyday.i spent years at jobs that didn’t care about me or my family, only their ROI…
when i’m traveling, i take the time to talk with people, even tho it’s exhausting…
on the other hand, i need to slow down the noticing to what God wants me to see…being a socially aggressive person, i’ve also seen the need for self-control, which can be a humbling factor…

Mine was today, talking to the barista at starbucks who is working full time to provide for her twin 1 and half year old daughters at home. I truly realized how hard she worked and how much I take for granted of who people are and there story.
I quickly glazed over who she was and just saw her as the girl that gets me coffee not as a mom who is working harder then I have ever worked to provide for her children.
Makes me feel pretty small but thankful for my mom.

Bro, this is not as backhanded as it may sound.

I really like your album, but its posts like this that I LOVE your blog more than your album. I am inspired to creativity and beauty by the things you spark here.

Well the album was birthed from here. It all starts here. SO I hope that is the case!

This is exactly what’s going on in our life right now – hubs & I are running 100mph in opposite directions – even if it’s for a common purpose (ministry, kids) … and we’ve been voluntold our fair share … there’s times when we simply don’t say no out of control – and then a kind of martyrdom sets in with an intoxicating shot of pride.

We’ve been trying to pull back and refocus but it’s the toughest thing we’ve had to do, because it’s all worthy of our time, but not always worth it when we see the fall out.

    This is a great reminder.

My almost-two-year-old daughter is teaching me to discover all over again how wonderful dandelions and maple tree helicopters are! Thank God for little ones!

Thanks for the word! I remember spending hours blowing on dandelions. Now I see them and think of all the future weeds they would cause in my lawn. This was a great reminder of God’s amazing wonder.
