Tell Us About Your Tattoo
So my boy Perry told his little itty bitty church to come check out my tattoo yesterday.
I thought I would make it easy for them to find the info…
A couple years ago I was on LA Ink on TLC.
It makes it REALLY difficult to decide on my next tattoo because the work Hannah did was so epic.

A trinity symbol (poor choice at 18 yrs) and the lyrics to Postal Service’s “Such Great Heights” on my shoulder. I wanted something that had a lot of meaning for the Hubs and I…
“God himself did make us into corresponding shapes like puzzle pieces from the clay.”
Now I have to decide what’s next!?!
no tats…but my first one will be the Ghanaian (west african) sign for “no one knows the beginning or the end of the world but god” or gyname
no tats…but my first will be a west african symbol for “none knows the beginning or the end of the world except god” = gyname
I have the back of a Saint Benedict’s medal on my shoulder blade with the Latin prayer of exorcism surrounding the cross
Front and back … http://www.ironwulf.net/wp/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/san_miguel_09.jpg
Im Rocking a Kokopelli with a telecaster. Long Story
greek for “chosen & dearly loved” on my foot from colossians 3. hebrew word “hephzibah” from isaiah 62 on my wrist meaning “the Lord delights in her”.
Brandi, those sound beautiful! My daughter got a tattoo saying “…for she loved much” based on Luke 7:47. I’ve been wanting to copy hers
I have a dragon on my right shoulder, from the day I turned 18. Not sure I’d get a dragon if I had to do it again (got it before I was a Christian; not really any good Biblical origin I can make up). It’s pretty sweet though.
You handle the flack u get for your ink with a lot of grace. Really cool to see that.
I made a comment recently at the POTSC site that you should get Fail Love tattooed on your head . I meant it as a joke, but maybe its a sign.
If you are truly going by the words of the bible, it says no marks on the body (Leviticus), so you shouldn’t be getting any more anyway, right?
In theory…
But here’s the verse in context:
27 ” ‘Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard.
28 ” ‘Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD. (http://is.gd/dXHHC)
So unless you’re saying that shaving is a sin for guys…
none yet…but i have been contemplating and really want to get hephzibah in hebrew (it means “my delight is in her”) on my wrist
Tribals. Because, well I mean, is there anything more awesome? Don’t answer.
I have shied away from tats because I felt like I am so indecisive, I would probably dislike any tat I chose, 2 years after I got it. But you raise an interesting point for me, which is: something Bible-related would definitely be something I won’t ever regret. I’m going to think about it.
Awesome. I heard you were on LA ink, just never saw the episode. Thanks for sharing it. I don’t have any tats, I’d love to get one, but I’m not sure it’d look good on me honestly.

Latest one is a knuckle tattoo of my wife’s initial “S” as a bit of a 5-yr anniversary thing. Got it in a classic Sailor Gothic style font traditional to knuckle tats, and it’s just about healed up now after a drawn out couple of weeks waiting to see the finished product. Liking it, and like that it symbolises my commitment to life-long marriage and family.
just got my first tattoo on Saturday! i got “death by love” in Hebrew down the back of my right arm.
Tramp Stamp of the Abominable Snowman!
No j/k…
actually I have my wedding ring tattoed on – covenant in Hebrew means “to cut” and is signified by blood. I did it to remind myself and my wife of our marriage being so much deeper than jewelry and formality but eternal commitment.
Also, my back piece is a large custom piece of arrows and a banner with PSALM 127:4 – each arrow represents my children and the arrow heads have been designed to symbolize the meaning of their middle names.
My next piece will probably be a half sleeve of a scene from Revelation 4
Liz,
I waited quite a while o get mine, chose somethng that had been a part of my life for quite a while that I had “taken ownership” of.
I’ve had it now for 5 years and I still love my tatt
4 Kanji script tats. One for my wife and kids names and one for love underneath them all. Not sure what the next one will be. Your arm piece is definitely epic. Must have cost a fortune.
I have a cross with a heart on my wrist that I got a year ago.
Here’s the picture:
http://racheldurban.wordpress.com/2010/05/18/tattoo/
I’ve got an old school sleeve on my right arm with randomness from sailor clipper ship, rose with wife’s name, coffin with candle in it (represents taking light into dark places), sacred heart, a couple swallows, diamond.
Also two weeks ago I got an old school sailor jerry eagle and snake fighting on my shin. I’m getting “THIS IS WAR” under it to represent and remind me of the spiritual battle were all in.
I have two.
My first was a sparrow… I just love birds. I think they’re beautiful.
My second was an anchor on my wrist. There’s a verse in Hebrews that says, “We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul…a hope that enters into the inner place.” I love that. It reminds me of the hope I have in Christ.
I still want more (I may or may not be addicted, haha). One that I really want is a piece of art by Alphonse Mucha. He’s my favorite artist. And I have a few more I’m thinking about…but we’ll see. Tattoos are expensive!
I have two on my back. One is a cross in the middle of my back.
The second one is the horizon just over the ocean with the names of my mother and sister and the date they passed away.
I have two. One on my ankle that vines out down on my foot, and I just not long ago had another done on the back of my neck. It says what I am about. Printed in Hebrew it says Jesus my savior Child of God.
I have “SEEK JUSTICE. LOVE MERCY. WALK HUMBLY WITH YOUR GOD.” on the inside of my left bicep with a outline of Africa in the middle of it. I got it last year when I was in South Africa.
That’s the verse I have a tattoo of too!
I’ve got lots of them. My newer ones I love the best.
My sleeve is made up of a murmaid holding a revolver(my wife), a pirate ship (I raced sail boats back in the day), some palm trees and UFOs (why not, right!?).
I’m just getting going on my chest. It’s a heart with wings. And soon to have the words “true love never dies” on it.
Among other random tattoos I have, there are roses in my armpits and “dirty south” on my ribs.
Some pics…

I have 3 pieces, 1 i need to redo by my artist but 2 from Scott Hepworth who just rocks it. Left under arm is a sweet “Love Never Fails” with my anniversary date mixed into the banner. My latest piece was somewhat inspired by your Saul-Paul piece…its the depiction of Matthew 14 of Peter being called out of the boat and losing faith. Its sick! Los I’ll have to DM you a pic…Scott captured the emotion right out of the painting. Love my ink! The stories that come from people seeing them is exactly why I have them.
Blessings.
I would LOVE to get a tat, but i’m a big FAT WUSS when it comes to needles!!!
Caleb,
who knows? maybe you’d be fine with it too!
I HATE needles… the doctors have to hold me down when drawing blood or giving shots… but i’ve got 2 tats and i’m ready for more (i know, i’m weird)
I have 5 right now… an ixthus fish on my right calf that I got shortly after I started going to church again; a small gothic style cross on the top of my left foot; tetelestai (it is finished) on the inside of my left wrist; agape (love) on the inside of my right wrist; and a bass clef and upside down treble clef that form a heart on the back of my neck (my sisters and I all have this one). My next (and probably last) one will be a Narnian themed half sleeve that will depict a couple of my favorite scenes from the books.
I have two tattoos.
My first one is on my ribs, and it’s a Latin phrase – “ad astra per aspera”, which means “to the stars through trials”. It’s my favorite phrase, and I intended for it to serve as my motto in life, that you need to endure hardships in order to succeed and live. I literally got it on a whim, and I really do love it. I don’t regret it in any way; there’s just no fun story behind it.
And then I got my second tattoo. I went through a horrific breakup my senior year of college (we had been together 4.5 years; we had been living together for 2 and were planning on getting married) and I fell into a deep depression. I lost 25 lbs in a couple weeks, I couldn’t eat, I couldn’t sleep. I failed almost every class I took that semester.
I spent so much time kicking myself for the mistakes I’d made with him, and the consequences that came after (the breakup). I was kicking myself for not being able to keep my sh*t together and continue to do well in school (even though everyone understood). I felt I had failed myself, and everyone around me.
So last April, I got a tattoo of a lyric from the musical “Rent”, in my own handwriting, on the top of my foot. It says “forget regret” (and the lyric continues, “or life is yours to miss”.) Forget regret or life is yours to miss. It’s like my own personal note to myself that I could not live that way and be happy.
I see it much more often than my first tattoo, which I need a mirror for. I need the reminder, anyway; that breakup still affects me to this day, almost a year later. But it’s nice just to have it there, to let me know that I have the choice to let go one day, and I will.
My mother was battling cancer and she was not doing well at all. My brother who has many tattoos called me I was living in another state at the time and he said I have an idea of a tattoo we can get for mama. I said I have had the same idea I explained my idea to him and he was speechless. I asked what was wrong he said that is exactly the idea he had. He went straight to his tattoo artist and explained the idea. He sent me the drawing and I loved it. He got his that week I got mine the week after when I traveled home. The day I got mine was the day my brother was baptized at our church. The cool part was my mom was able to attend the baptism. We had a Baptism in the morning and tattoo in the evening great day. We keep them a secret from her until I had mine so we could show her together. My sweet conservative, Christian mother LOVED the tattoos she told everyone look what my boys did for me. It was awkward in her hospital room at the end of her life showing people our tattoos. The tattoo is a purple heart (her favorite color) with the word mama in the heart; a banner swooping around the hearth at he top is a red rose. It also has some smoke around the edges of it. I debated for a long time if I should get the extra smoke around mine I finally decided to do it. We let Ron our artist pick all the colors expect the purple. The crazy part is the smoke color is a turquoise. My brother and I didn’t notice it until a few months after my sweet mother died but that turquoise color is the same color she wore in my brother wedding in 93 my wedding in 2001 and she was buried in the same color. I had to sit down when I realized that. I will always have a piece of my mother with me and it is something special my brother and I share in memory of our sweet mother who is now in the arms of Jesus.
Jason
I believe God wants us to keep our bodies as clean as possible. Not a tattoo fan, not at all.
I wash my tattoos daily.
As Perry said on Sunday, tatoos just mean you have a more decorated temple
I’ve the “Crown of Thorns” embedded on my right upper arm, laced with my favorite scriptures. On my left I have the “Armour of God”,all the pieces according to Eph 6:10-18 as a half sleeve. Works great as a witness tool and a launch pad for my testimony.
All to bring Gory and Honor to my Father in Heaven.
I have a small star on my left “ring toe.” Just a black outline. Simple. I used to doodle it there all the time absentmindedly, so eventually I decided to just make it permanent.
I’d like to get Saved – Forgiven – Free in some language on my ribcage. I also plan to get “dance to remember” and “dance to forget” (yes – Hotel California lyrics) on my feet in memory of my dad; it was his favorite song.
I have two. One is a picture of Jesus carrying the cross with the words oh how he loves us on the bottom and on the top is says “where oh death is your victory, where oh death is your sting”. i got it a month ago and it symbolizes that love conquered death so we need not be afraid and that he carried our cross because of his love for us. that is on my left arm. (here is a pic if you care to see) http://www.facebook.com/#!/album.php?aid=194228&id=529895565
on my right arm i have lyrics from jon foreman/switchfoot “i will carry a cross and a song where i don’t belong”. what i live by.
i have plans to get another next summer. it’s going to be a picture of the temple when Jesus died when the curtains torn in two with a high priest in the picture as well as a beggar outside. this is to symbolize that we don’t need any credentials to come before the Father anymore, the beggar will symbolize us and it’s also a reference to the song by thrice.
I have a seven point mariner’s compass with psalm 91:11 in hebrew around the outside on my left shoulder. Bad photo but here it is: http://twitpic.com/197plj
I have many, most I regret.
1. My pap’s nickname on my right ankle “Whitey”
2. Tribal heart around my belly button
3. Pair of uneven lips “down below”
4. Ex’s name on my shoulder blade
5. Ex’s name covered up on my shoulder blade
6. Old friend’s name on the upper part of my right arm
7. A chinese symbol on the back of my neck meaning “to be different”
2 tattoos. One on my ankle is a music staff with heart and cross. The other across the top of my foot that reads “Walk by faith.”
I’m getting one custom designed. It’s going to be an interpretation of 2 Sam. 22:5-16
Wow where to start….. When I was 18 I busted out tribal and regret it to this day. Hope’n to get it removed at some point. I didn’t want to do a sleeve until I was sure what I wanted so I did my legs first..
We call one of my legs the circus leg b/c it is so bright. I have a rockabilly guy driv’n a hot rod, an 80’s hair metal dude sitt’n on a guitar case on HllYWD BLVD, skeleton rock’n a trucker hat, a horseshoe w/ lucky banner on my calf, and most important an old school bomb w/ Gunnar and the date he was born.(my son)
My other leg is Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead). It is crazy. I sat for 8 1/2 hours straight and it was totally worth it.
I have moved to doing my sleeve since my grandfather past away. It is a WWII sleeve w/ bomber planes, statue of liberty pin up, and one of his meals, & a Cpt. America shield on my elbow.
My next will be my chest pc which will be sparrows with my kids names in banner. This I will be taking a lot of time with. I want them to depict their personalities as well as my love for them.
Adam
I have a tattoo of a little girl “tagged” by graffiti artist Nina Pandolfino somewhere in Brazil on my wrist. Her clothes are the color of mi pais, Argentina. My second tattoo is a “thought” of said little girl. It’s a robot holding a daisy. My husband drew it for me when he was deployed in Iraq. The robot also has a heart. Something about this just spoke to me. The military, in many ways, teaches you to be robotic, unfeeling. This “just get the job done” mentality. The image says so much about Matt. He has a heart and feelings and emotions and I was lucky enough to be the person he chose to share them with.
I have a, somewhat large, chest piece of two bats and a wooden steak in the center with a rosery around it. The bats and the rosery represent a reminder of prayer and the wooden steak represents dying to selfish ambitions and wanting selfish things.
My next tattoo will be two cheribums holding a banner that says ‘I will resist my sin to the point of blood and I will wear me scars like badges of honor. Let my hope cry out that my God is greater than the pain of persecution’ they are lyrics from the song Saul of Tarsus (the Messenger) by For Today
A heart with doves, for the love of Christ and the Holy Spirit.
My youngest daughter had cancer a few years ago. We met two other families during our cancer journey. Their children became so dear to me. God opted to cure my daughter on earth, but for our friends, Griffin and Courtney, He opted to cure them in Heaven. God was never more present and powerful than in those dark, scary days of my daughter’s illness and in the painful but glorious days of holding the hands of those kids as Jesus came for them.
To remember God’s promises to me and to honor the kids, I got a tattoo of a cross with a childhood cancer ribbon (gold colored) entwined around it and my daughters, Griffin and Courtney’s initials on it. Griffin and Courtney’s initials have halo’s above them.
Carlos, I love how you fearlessly told Hannah about your tattoo and what it meant. Thanks for posting the LA Ink episode.
PS–See you at Echo in Dallas later this week! Have a safe trip here.
I’ve always wanted a tattoo but never new where or what until I had my kids. I got there names tattooed on my forearm!! I love it and dream about all the other tats I want!!
I have 9. Started when I was 19 and had my oldest daughter so I got her name with a rose. I also have my other daughters name with a dream catcher and a bear claw. My last two have been since I have been walking with Christ again, the Jesus Fish with A & O (Alpha & Omega) in it. And Christs hands with the nails side by side with “Body Piercing Saved My Life” across the top. I still want a few more, but I am still in the designing stages.
Yay, great topic!! This is going to probably get long…
I have, “Heaven is Home,” tattooed on my right forearm. I’ve discovered that having a visible tattoo is quite a conversation starter, and I get to share the meaning behind it quite often. The one-sentence explanation is simply: “Heaven IS my home… this earth is not.”
The longer explanation is: For about 10 years now, I’ve been searching for “home”… trying to find it in places, trying to find it in people…my parents divorced as I entered my 20s and that, combined with some other stuff, sent me into a tailspin. Jumped into a relationship and marriage that was not God’s best, long story short, my husband sought to end our marriage this past December, and with that I was “home”-less, again. (Not that I ever felt at home there.)
There’s an old song by the band, “The Waiting,” called “Heaven is Home,” so I suppose that is where the idea first came from, but basically I wanted a reminder, every day, that heaven is my true home, to keep that fresh on my mind and in my heart. I love my tat. I see it every day and it makes me smile. Many people in my life were shocked that I got a tattoo, especially a visible one, I’ve been told it’s trashy and “no nice boys” will like me now… all kinds of crazy nonsense.
I’ve been going through kind of a personal renaissance the past 7 months, and now everyone knows that I AM the “type” of girl to get a tattoo (whatever that means). I am literally wearing my heart “on my sleeve”. Heaven is Home, the reality of that has brought me great peace, and I will never regret my ink. And as far as the commenter who said God wants us to keep our bodies clean, to each their own, but I whole-heartedly believe my tattoo is HELPING me keep my body clean. I have a past struggle with self-injury, and if I am ever tempted to cut (my arm) in the future, my tattoo is staring back up at me with this amazing reminder of eternity, the price Christ paid for me, and my eternal significance/inheritance.

no tats, yet! in this week i’m going to see the art of a picture of David and Goliath.. it means God calls to make a stand in this world and walk in submission to God’s word..
I have 4 tats: A cross inside a fish with Matt. 4:19 on my right shoulder; a cross on my right shoulder blade; a cross with my grandad’s dates on it as well as the phrase we had passed down to us “Be Christlike” on my upper left arm; the names of my wife and kids all interconnected on the left side of my chest.
That’s all I have for now, but I have others in mind for later.
I haven’t gotten any yet, one because i am so scared of needles, and two I don’t have a government issued ID (I’m 19 and don’t have my license, long story involving lack of money and NC stupid laws?) But I know I want to get a cross with a music staff wrapping around it with the music notes from “Nothing but the blood of Jesus” but I haven’t found anyone to sketch it for me. I also want to have ‘Awakening’ in a sunrise and I also want to get ecclesiastes 3:11 somewhere. I would also like to have whats called the survivors mark, a handprint representing, becoming a survivor of abuse and no longer just a victim of it.
p.s. you can find the original creators of The Survivor’s Mark on facebook or myspace by just searching for them.
I have three. I have a heart made out of flowers on my ankle… Roses, daisies, a sunflower, some crazy blue flower the artist totally made up. I’ve had this one for years. I like it but it doesn’t touch my heart.
Several years ago, I went through several traumatic surgeries. Over the course of months of healing, I had to learn to rely on other people. Something I do not do well. I love control and I am a worrier. My mother-in-law kept telling me to “let it be.” I would repeat that to myself over the months of healing and I repeat it multiple times every day still when I find myself worrying or feeling anxious over something that I should be giving to God. I have “let it be”written in typwwriter font on the side and a daisy on my right foot. A visual reminder to let it go and give it to God. On the side of my left foot I have “walk by faith” and a daisy
on top. I love the symmetry of it. If I’m truly giving it to God, if I am letting it be, then I am walking by faith. Every day. Every step.
Wooden, rugged cgross with a crown of thorns around where two pieces meet. Second was an Ichthus with IXOYE inside (yes, like all those car magnets) with the blank space in Breen on the inside.
I need to get them touched up? Has anyone ever done this? and is it worth it?
Scott – My hands are done over an older tattoo. It itched like crazy. I was later told it is because it does itch more when ink is done over ink. Yes, it was worth it for me because the old tat represented a boy and the new tat represents a man (Jesus). Not sure if everyone has the same reaction.
Thanks for answering…and the color on my ICHTHUS is GREEN! Not Breen.
It just faded a tick…still unsure. Thanks for the info.
i have an icthus on my inner ankle…not so original, but I got it 18 years ago. my first “independent” act as an 18 year old. I wanted something that i was sure would mean something to me in years to come, something i could be proud of no matter what. I am a girly girl, sort of trendy, etc. (on the surface anyway) and people always seem a bit shocked to know I have ink
wings from my shoulders to lower back – the piece took about 9 hours but was worth every second. i have had so many conversations about my tat with people i would never have connected with otherwise – hoping that i will always be open to hearing the HS during those convos
a blue heart with red tribal vines wrapped all around it, to show that my heart is entangled with the love of Christ
the Roman Px first initials of Christ made out of nails to represent the crucifixion
A celtic armband for my scottish heritage with ichtus’ (wth is the plural for ichtus lol) weaved into the design
last but not least a very intricate cross with a rose weaving through it
I have a star on my index finger (so I can hold it up like the number 1) because of this story:
Once upon a time, there was a wise man who used to go to the ocean to do his writing. He had a habit of walking on the beach before he began his work.
One day, as he was walking along the shore, he looked down the beach and saw a human figure moving like a dancer. He smiled to himself at the thought of someone who would dance to the day, and so, he walked faster to catch up.
As he got closer, he noticed that the figure was that of a young man, and that what he was doing was not dancing at all. The young man was reaching down to the shore, picking up small objects, and throwing them into the ocean.
He came closer still and called out “Good morning! May I ask what it is that you are doing?”
The young man paused, looked up, and replied “Throwing starfish into the ocean.”
“I must ask, then, why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?” asked the somewhat startled wise man.
To this, the young man replied, “The sun is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them in, they’ll die.”
Upon hearing this, the wise man commented, “But, young man, do you not realize that there are miles and miles of beach and there are starfish all along every mile? You can’t possibly make a difference!”
At this, the young man bent down, picked up yet another starfish, and threw it into the ocean. As it met the water, he said, “I made a difference to that one!”
~The Starfish Story
adapted from The Star Thrower
by Loren Eiseley
1907 – 1977
The Greek word poiema from Ephesians 2:10 “We are God’s workmanship” or “masterpiece.” This is the same word we get the English word “poem” from. I like to think of myself as God’s poem, as art–and not art like a novel or an epic but rather something small and packed and delicate. God’s carefully crafted song.
I have it on my wrist in white–few people ever see it. But I see it every day.
I have “love” on my wrist… A triquetra on my foot. And a heart on my back made from two bass clefs (one is backwards)
I have the infamous “tramp stamp” on my back. My grandfather tells me I am a pagan because I have a tattoo. He has the strong belief that Christians should not tattoo their bodies. My kids think it’s awesome though! I have no issue with tattoos as long as your 18. I keep reminding them they have to be 18 for the real deal but they still love the fake ones!
Bald eagle across my back with “Freedom isn’t Free” intertwined with an American flag in its beak, holding a banner in its talons that says, “Really Los, ‘Epio?’ the double zeros called…”
I’m not schooled in the in style words…
got 3 of them.
1) “Faithful” in Hebrew on my inner-wrist
2) Ankle bracelet of cherry blossoms with “Grace” in Chinese
3) Cross with a daisy on my back
And I am pretty sure Brice meant, “Epic” unless his tattoo artist meant to spell “Epio”
Haha…
Epio…similar to when they misspell your ladies name on your arm…
darn tattoo artists
I have “Venia Triumphus Censura” spanning from under my ankle to up and over my foot ending below my big toe.
It means “Grace Triumphs Judgement”
You mean the one I don’t have because I would feel too claustrophobic in my skin if I could never get completely naked? Ack! If I did ever overcome my strange claustrophobia, I think I would get the word “timshel.” If you’ve read East of Eden, you’ll know why.
OK. You are going to have to explain the skin claustraphobic thins.
I would feel like I could never get naked. Like I always had something left on that I couldn’t take off. Basically I think the fear is that I would pick something that at some point I would no longer like and then I’d be trapped in it. Learning about “timshel” is the first time I’ve ever contemplated a tattoo. It’s meaning is similar to the idea of second chances. A theme you are familiar with.
I have a tattoo of my wife’s name on my ring finger, as my wedding band
1) A sunset over an Egyptian pyramid to represent the end of my time in Egypt.
2) An alarm clock with a stethoscope meaning “time for healing”
3) The D.C. emblem (my hometown) from the Wizards jersey with a tribal sun I drew around it.
Two small tats…
First is an Ichthus fish on my foot.
Second is “ZEPH 3:17″ on my right wrist
Thinking about a third….Just not sure where! I want “E 2:8″ somewhere so if you have any good ideas where I should get it, throw it at me!
E 2:8? Esther? Ezekiel? Ezra? Ephesians? All of the above?
Ephesians…I got the idea from one of my friends and it is very simple. We’ll see!
I’ve got tree roots that turn into an acoustic guitar w/ a bird perched on it. It’s on my right upper arm and shoulder. I drew from the scripture about faith being like a small seed that grows into a tree so large a bird can make their nest in it, and from scriptures about trees planted by waters.
The roots are open ended and I’m hoping to extend it down my arm for a full sleeve, but I’m stuck. Any ideas?! So far, I’m hoping to depict waters through the roots or some sort of underworld of influences of my life that has developed my faith. How to make it look sweet on my arm? that’s another story.
On my right wrist I have the Hebrew word for “redeem” as a reminder to me that God can and will redeem anything if we let Him.
Here’s a pic: http://yfrog.com/j95yjj
This is so beautiful! I like the shading
i got a catfish with a banner that says “Get Rhythm”.
my grandpa died 2 years ago and he was a big part o my life. he took me to school everyday til i was 16 and he listened to Johnny Cash every freakin morning. no other tape would work in his tape deck except his 4 song Johnny Cash tape. Get Rhythm was his favorite one. and he went fishing almost every day and every picture i have of him he’s holding a catfish. so i designed somthing for em. its pretty rad.
http://twitpic.com/290egs
That’s awesome!
i have a tat on the back of my neck in greek. it says, “illogical life”. based after how christ lived his. alwasy different, always looking illogical to everyone around him.
I have 2 – one is an eagle’s head on my upper arm with Isaiah 40:31 underneath it. Pretty straight forward there – it is one of my favorite verses, also eagles are one of my favorite animals, just for all of the symbolism in that verse etc. The other is a tribal tiger face on my other arm. Again, tigers are a favorite animal of mine and I found this design and really liked it. I want at least 2 more. My wife and I have experienced 4 miscarriages (losing 5 children) and I want something to symbolize that – may seem strange, but they were still a part of us. The other may be for the child we are expecting now or a cross with broken chains.
Here’s links to my two tats:

A dear friend of mine got a tattoo to for the child they lost through a miscarriage, she’s female so its girly, but its a flower growing out of grass, its way more intricate than it sounds and she plans to add more as she has more children.
Her original idea was hands opening and a butterfly coming out to represent losing the child but she changed her mind.
I have an outline of Africa with heart in the middle on the top of my foot. When i was in 10th grade i went on a mission trip to south aftica and then Kenya and i fell in love!!! i knew right away that it was a place i want live and share God’s love and it’s where my hear is.
The Hebrew word “shekinah” on the inside of my wrist. It means the presence of God or the dwelling place of God.
I want to get “I know that my redeemer lives” but I can’t think of where on my body.
one on the top of each of my feet (for now)…Jeremiah 29:11 & Matthew 5:16…each has a small picture with it but the scripture reference is what is most important to me…those two verses are my rocks.
Carlos, great piece on LA Ink! I am close to finishing a full sleeve on my left arm, a collage of things. I have a portrait of Christ, doves, a cross oming out of the ocean and on the back of my arm a piece I saw several years ago that moved me. It’s a human giving up their soul and their soul is reaching for the hand of God, it just blew me away and I thoguht, i have to get that done. I’ve had over 14 holurs of work done, still got about 4 more hours to go, then off the the other arm, which is already halve sleeved. I’m a former Pastor at one of the nation’s fastest growing church, I can relate so well to your story! Great stuff!
1) If I ever get a tattoo, my mother might just kill me.
2) Not sure if I can brave the needles.
3) Not sure there’s anything that I would want–not just “not mind”, but “want”–on my body permanently. Though I do like Chris’s (above) idea of tattooing on his wedding ring. That might be worth looking into once (if?) the time comes.
I have ocean waves going around my arm with “Love God” “Love Others” along the waves on the outside and then m.22.37.40 in reference to Jesus being asked what is the greatest commandment. It’s a passage of Scripture that God is using to lead my life and how I live it.
I’m waiting until I’m about 75 to get a tattoo. I’m gonna get it on my back and it will say “If you can read this please put my clothes back on”. Clothes are good, old wrinkled naked skin, not so much.
My sister and I have matching yellow roses on our sides in honor of my Grandmother that I was named after.
I have faithful written in greek on my hip and light written in hebrew on my foot.
I’m trying to decided what to get next…
I believe I am too white to be putting ink on me. Wait, maybe I could get a tan tat.
I have three. The first is a cross on my left wrist with the initials of all my girls at each point. The second is my wedding date on my ring finger. The third one is my grandma’s name in her own writing that I took from the last note she sent me before she died last October. That one is on the inside of my right wrist and I had that one done the day before I officiated her funeral.
Wow, this is a pretty popular topic! I love it!
My tattoo is a Jerry Sailor swallow with a ribbon that reads “Play” on one side and “Pain” on the other,
You can see it here:

And to save space here, you can read why I got it here:

I have several tattoos, but not near as many as I would like. Here is a brief list: Left ring-finger – my wife’s first initial R. Left upper arm – The hand of God opened up to the earth (with the flames of the sun around it) with a band-aid across the earth and John 3:16 underneath. (God sent His Son to heal the world is the idea there.) The word FORGIVEN across shoulders and the date that I received Christ (10.22.02) underneath. Those are the main tattoos. Hope to get the names Tobias Mikal & Jonah-Miriam down my forearms. (Our children that we lost via miscarriage.)
I like yours. I’ve only got one. It’s an ankle band on my left ankle with a cross in it. It’s design was inspired by a hemp ankle band one of my best friends made for me in high school. The colors are blue and green (my favorite colors). The cross was originally negative space but then I decided to put some tiger stripes in it.
oh well here’s a picture (http://bit.ly/bhvBTI)
My husband and I were there at the 9 am service when the question came up about tatoos, people were amazed you got it on LA Ink.
Recently, I got my first tattoo after being inspired by 1 Corinthians 15:10. Here, Paul states that God poured such an awesome amount of grace into his life and that Paul doesn’t want it to go to waste. As a result, I got God’s Grace in Chinese characters tattooed on my foot as a symbol of my desire to not allow God’s grace to go to waste in my life.
here is a picture of it: http://www.flickr.com/photos/melissa-adams/4576615112/
I have a tattoo on my wrist that wraps all the way around. It says “Greater is the one who is in me.” It is referring to 1 john 4:4 and i got it done in greek. I love it and haven’t regretted it once.
Can someone tell me what Season and Episode # this was on? I would love to know. And by the, that has to be the sickest tat I have ever seen.
I never thought I’d get inked. I’m a 51-year-old suburban housewife – perhaps the most unlikely person on earth to get a tattoo.
But my youngest (of 2 girls) daughter turned 18 in April and will leave for college in 21 days. What she wanted for her birthday was a tat, a dove on the inside of her wrist. And she wanted it to be a mother-daughter occasion.
If you’re a mom of a teenager, you know that, when you child invites you into something important in their life, you do not say no.
So … I got a small cross on my left shoulderblade, a replica of a silver one my husband gave a few years ago.
I’d never have done it, but now I love that i did and I love that I shared it with her.
I blogged about it here >> http://www.bethgsanders.com/in-permanent-ink
I love tattoos. Currently i have 8 tattoos and one is developing. I can’t wait until i have my half sleeve.
1- Kanji for Faith and Freedom (tramp stamp) ha
2- a Canadian maple leaf on my ankle to represent
3-cross and fish combo on shoulder blade
4-star of david on my hip
5-pink star on my wrist
7- the chorus to a favourite worship song of mind on the inside of my right arm…covering my bicep
8- the tree from our wedding invitation which will be a tattoo that grows with our marriage…a leaf for each year we are married and a bird when we have a kid.
they all have significant meaning but my next one will top them all.
I had been on and off about a tattoo for 20 years (since I was 18). But finally, just before I turned 40 I knew EXACTLY what I wanted and could live with. I designed a bat based on the Chinese bat motif and in each wing is a Chinese character for my mom and my dad’s family name. The bat symbolizes long life (though in contemporary times it has come to also mean prosperity tho I didn’t choose it for that). I took on my husband’s last name and I don’t have any sibs so I wanted a way to honor my parents’ family name (our daughter’s middle name is also my maiden name). It’s red and designed to look like a chop (seal). It’s on the inside of my right ankle. I absolutely love it and the night right after I got the tattoo I started designing a second one. I want something to honor my husband and my daughter, possibly on the underside of my left wrist.
I am one of “Perry’s Pep’s” in SC and attend the Greenville SC campus. I just viewed your page and story about your tattoo. Thanks for sharing. Very cool. Very inspirational story about how the church and family time can conflict. I hope you’ll come visit us one day! Would love to see the tat live!!
i have my kids’ bdays and my baptism date on the front of my neck with “xxx” kisses and “ooo” hugs on either side.
I also have a 1st century roman nail on each wrist with “loved” and “always.”
I just heard about this post on Spirit FM 90.5 in Tampa Bay this AM. I have a butterfly tattoo over my left breast that can only been seen when I wear something low cut or a bathing suit. I continually look for new tattoo ideas but I’m slow to get them done. Obviously, since I only have one tattoo. I think that if they are thought out, then I don’t have a problem with them.
